Khalid released “Location” before his high school graduation and it garnered over 1.52 million plays in less than two months, which led to his major label deal with Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records. Khalid’s debut album, American Teen, has received mass critical acclaim with praise from The New York Times, TIME Magazine, Billboard, NYLON, and many more. Billboard stated, “…effortlessly excellent…the kid is still so young, but this body of work is beyond his years”. Khalid has also performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and at this year’s SXSW where he won MTV’s Woodie To Watch Award. Additionally, Khalid embarked on his first-ever headlining tour in both the U.S. and select European cities where he sold-out every single date before the album was even released. Khalid has over one billion streams worldwide across all partners, and he is one of two solo teenagers to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 in the last 12 months. This summer, Khalid was the face of Forever 21’s Summer Digital Campaign, #F21xMusic, Men’s Line, and was named MTV Push: Artist to Watch for the month of July. He was nominated for a 2017 BET Award for Best New Artist, a Teen Choice Award for Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song for “Location”, and he recently won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. “Location” is certified double platinum in the US and Canada and platinum in Australia, and New Zealand. American Teen is also certified Gold in the U.S and Canada.
Julia Michaels is quickly cementing herself as the biggest global breakthrough artist of 2017 with the release of her multi-platinum selling debut single, “Issues.” With worldwide consumption approaching 5 million, “Issues” is the best-selling song by a new artist released in 2017, according to Nielsen Music. It is also the highest on-demand audio streaming song by a new artist released this year. The song has also become the ninth Top 40 hit Julia has co-written on the Billboard Hot 100, and marks her first as a solo artist.
Aminé’s 2017 full-length debut, Good For [Republic Records] immediately made an indelible impact upon arrival. XXL chose him for a coveted spot as one of its 2017 “Freshman Class” cover stars. In his first major profile,The New York Times described the record as “amiable, inventive and idiosyncratic, one of the year’s most intriguing hip-hop albums and also a bold statement of left-field pop,” while Pitchfork appropriately called it “the soundtrack for an almost sober drive home.” Between explosive sets at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and beyond, he delivered show-stopping performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and more, solidifying himself as a force of nature on stage.
Jessie Reyez released the first song, “Figures,” off her debut EP “Kiddo” in late 2016. A violent heartbreak anthem, the song spoke intimately to people around the world – earning itself a lot of attention from multiple labels and millions of plays across multiple channels and platforms. Inspired by some of her most emotional experiences, the EP is a soundscape of Jessie’s life. Whether sad, angry or triumphant, “Kiddo” gracefully crosses lines and callously ignores boundaries.

I do like the manner in which you have framed this particular difficulty plus it does offer us a lot of fodder for thought. Nevertheless, through what I have witnessed, I simply just hope when other commentary pile on that men and women keep on point and in no way start on a soap box of some other news of the day. Anyway, thank you for this excellent piece and while I can not agree with it in totality, I value your viewpoint.
