5 Ways to Style a Western-Themed Outfit

A Western-themed outfit can be a fashion-statement, a piece of modern style so unique that each part of it, from the hat to the boots, looks like you designed it to fit your personality. Before you head out to line-dancing class or step out onto the runway, select a hat, jewelry, a fringed top, beautifully strong denim, and high boots meant for dancing.

Have A Hat Straight From Hollywood

If you’re looking for a hat out of your favorite Western drama or just trying to find modern Western headgear, you’re not alone. Traditional cowboy hats and other stylish vintage items like fedoras and Aussie hats look sharp and new, with not a mothball in sight.

Don’t Wear Your Grandmother’s Necklace

You may love a necklace that was passed down to you from your grandmother, but perhaps you’d also like to make one of your own. You can choose traditional earth tones, geometric shapes, and images from nature for a traditional Western beaded necklace, or you can even custom design your own beads for a modern twist.

Add Bling to a Fringed Shirt

Your Western bedazzling doesn’t have to stop at neck level. Take it on down to your waist by learning how to make your own fringed shirt. You won’t even have to buy a new shirt if you choose to do it this way. But by all means, buy new beads. They’re a main ingredient in this do-it-yourself fashion, and each one can have a personal meaning to you.

Ride Free in Beautifully-Tough Denim

The Western styling of your denim, in particular, has toughness as well as beauty. You want your jeans to hug your curves, but also give you the freedom to enjoy the dance floor or have a ride on horseback, whichever is on your agenda for the day. Sharp, solid colors can make an impression on the dance floor while showing off your belt and giving you leeway to rock the house. If short-shorts are keeping you cool in the summer, feel free to wear them out on the floor.

Blast Off With Your Boots

When you go out to the club, it’s your boots that will make the final impression, not just on your admirers, but on you. After all, the comfort and confidence you feel has a tremendous effect on transforming you from a wallflower into a Western dancer. Boots that look great on the outside, scalloped and stitched to perfection, will complete the unique outfit you composed for your special occasion. On the inside, they will support your feet so that you can remain active all night and enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Now that you’re ready for an evening of Western fun, from your new hat, to your fringed shirt, to your boots that are practically leaping off the floor on their own, you can go out with confidence. If you have time, add a pair of festive earrings, a cloth poncho, or a couple of pins in a denim jacket. Be yourself like never before by going Western.

5 Quick & Easy Dog Training Tips

Everyone wants a dog they can communicate with. A dog that you give a simple instruction, and watch it obey. It’s not just for fun but also to make your dog behave accordingly. Some dogs like the security ones are trained and aren’t the same as balanced dogs. It’s your responsibility to train your dog while overseeing its growth from a puppy to an adult dog. You should start with dog obedience training which consists of a few basic commands. Here are five quick and easy dog training tips.

1. Create a Puppy-proof in Your House

Every time a puppy is alone or is not under supervision, he should be in a safe place far from trouble. Imagine coming back home and finding your TV screen on the floor broken, your leather seats torn, and your kitchen looking like you have just been burglarized. Prevent that from happening.

Create a room for your pup and provide any safe toys he/she can play with and chew. Just like you wouldn’t give a toddler total freedom, puppies require the same restriction. You will be preventing accidents and destructive behavior. It ensures your pup doesn’t develop an awkward behavior.

2. Don’t Sleep with Him in Your Bed

It can be tough for you, and we understand. They are part of the family, and there should be no such limits, but allowing your dog to share a bed with you will give him mixed thoughts, and he will be wondering what role he plays.

Allowing him to share the same bed with you will make your dog see himself as your equal, and no reason to respect you. If you insist on allowing him on to your bed, make it an invitation only. Show him that he is not allowed into your bed unless he is invited.

3. Create Short Sessions Throughout The Day

Training is not a one-time thing. If it were, you wouldn’t spend all those years in college. The only way your dog will learn is through undergoing extensive training for a long time with short sessions in between the day. If you find it hard to dedicate some hours each day, enroll in dog training programs with Wag Hotels, and they will educate and train your dog professionally while you are away.

However, if you have the time, train your dog in short snippets. You will be able to notice when the dog is more alert and take advantage rather than wasting your time and annoying your dog by forcing him to learn. Besides, short sessions are easier to manage especially if you have a busy schedule.

4. Be Generous with Your Affection

Most people will mention when they are unhappy with their dogs, but sometimes they ignore the good stuff. As much as you are disappointed with its bad behavior, appreciate its good side as well. Just like we humans, dogs can have best or worst moments.

Ensure that you give your dog the attention it deserves when he’s doing the right stuff. Appreciate and let him know that he has behaved well. Be generous with your words and praise him. Give him some little pats and treats to show that you appreciate.

5. Give Your Dog a Daily Exercise

Just like humans, dogs need plenty of exercise and stimulation on a daily basis to cheer them up and keep them active. One or two walks per day are not enough for your pet especially if it’s a herder or retriever.

Lack of exercise and stimulation can make your dog, bored, unhappy, or unhealthy. In fact, many destructive and aggressive behaviors from dogs are due to lack of exercise and stimulation. A bored dog would find something interesting to do, like messing up your stuff.

Conclusion

When it comes to training your on-four best friend, you have to work hard and exercise patience. It also requires lots of dedication. Training your dog creates a stronger bond, and you can all have fun as long as you treat him/her right and show love.

SAPT WORKS!

October is Depression Awareness Month, and a great time to focus on ways to overcome the blues and keep depression away. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, around 16 million adults each year experience the most common type of depression, which is Major Depressive Disorder. The disorder is characterized by having at least five of the symptoms, in which at least one of them is an overwhelming feeling of sadness or a loss of interest and pleasure in most usual activities. The good news for those who would like to keep depression at bay or who are looking to beat the blues is that they may need look no further than consistently exercising.

“Making exercise a consistent part of your life has some amazing benefits,” explains Coach Sarah Walls, personal trainer and owner of SAPT Strength & Performance Training, Inc., who is also the strength and conditioning coach for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics. “Those who engage in exercise regularly feel the difference it can make in one’s life. It can impact everything from how you see yourself to how well you sleep at night. It’s that powerful.”

Before anyone cringes and says they don’t have time to fit in exercising, it’s important to know that even a little bit can go a long way. New research published in the October 2017 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry shares details from a landmark study conducted on nearly 34,000 Norwegians. What researchers found was that even small amounts of exercise can protect against depression, regardless of age or gender. They report that sedentary lifestyles are becoming the norm around the world, and depression rates are growing. What’s more, their research showed that those who don’t exercise at all have a 44% increased chance of developing depression. They found that the mental health benefits of exercise are found within the first hour of exercise each week, showing that even giving an hour per week to exercise does a world of good.

Here are 5 ways exercise helps to beat the blues:

  1. Natural chemicals. When you exercise, your brain releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins. Those endorphins are a natural opiate-like chemical that acts as a pain reliever, reduces stress, and helps people be able to sleep better.
  2. Clears the mind. Exercising is a great way to help alleviate worries and anxiety. Those who may be worrying about something or having a difficult emotional time can engage in exercise and find they feel a lot better by the time they are done with the session.
  3. New connections. According to Harvard Medical School, exercising spurs the release of proteins called neurotrophic or growth factors, which cause nerve cells to grow and make new connections. This helps to lead to improvements in brain functioning.  The exercising supports nerve cells in the hippocampus, which helps to relieve depression.
  4. Better image. Most people who engage in exercise see a difference in the mirror and in the way their clothes fit, and they like it. The changes they see can be uplifting and give them more confidence.
  5. Weight loss. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43% of adults with depression are obese, and adults who have depression are more likely to be obese. Exercising regularly helps people lose weight and be able to better maintain a healthy weight.

“There are so many good reasons to exercise and not one good one to avoid it,” added Coach Walls. “I work with many people and I see the difference that even a little exercise per week can do for them. Get the endorphins flowing and see for yourself how great you start feeling!”

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there is a connection between breast cancer and depression. According to BreastCancer.org, those who have breast cancer may feel sad or depressed, resulting from the diagnosis, treatment, breast cancer treatments, aging, hormonal changes, or other factors. While they report that sadness is a natural part of breast cancer experience, they offer several tips for helping to address depression, including exercising.

Fitness Expert Shares Benefits of Working Out with Your Sweetheart

We all know that exercise is good for you, but did you know that it can actually improve your relationship? Working out with a sweetheart has more benefits than you may realize. By becoming your honey’s swolemate, you will find a renewed emotional bond, attractiveness, and confidence.

When my husband and I started dating, he asked me to go with him to the gym to “spot” him.  Spot?! What does that even mean? Although today I am a personal trainer, back then my workout experience was limited to phys-ed in high school, and a yoga class that I went to once and hated. Danny however, was a gym regular and I was very intimidated at the idea of trying to appear like I knew anything about working out.  He obviously worked heavier weights, focused on different muscles and I was more of a cardio girl back in those days. I actually didn’t like weight lifting, but I went along because it was our time together.

I noticed that there was something different about doing a physical activity together as compared to sitting watching a movie.

Although any friend or loved one can be your swolemate, there is a double benefit if it is your significant other.  Here are just a few of the benefits:

1. It increases your emotional bond.  When you workout next to someone else, your body naturally tries to sync with the other person’s level of physical activity. As long as both people feel safe, their brainwaves, heartbeat and energy will begin to vibrate at the same frequency.

2. It makes you physically more attracted to each other. Want to appear more attractive in the eye of your honey?  The physiological effects of exercise mirror the same effects of romantic attraction: sweaty palms, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and a rush of feel-good hormones. You can use these wonderful benefits to your advantage by scheduling date night at the gym.

3. It boosts the results of your workout and improves your confidence. Because humans are social creatures, the mere act of being in the presence of someone increases your effort and ability to do an activity. You may not be doing the exact workout but his/her presence boosts your energy and you get a better workout.

Not only do Danny and I work out together regularly, we teach couples and families how to stay fit together with a program we created call the Yoke Training System. Over the years Danny and I have tried swing dancing, evening walks, traditional gym workouts and even yoga classes (yes, I went back!). We may not always like the same activity but we give it a try until we find something we enjoy and fits into our current life’s agenda. The greatest thing you can do is stop worrying about weight loss and waistline and just have fun with your special swolemate.
