Norwegian Air Customers Donate to UNICEF

$3 Million Donated to UNICEF by Norwegian Air Passengers

Customers of Norwegian Air, the World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline and Value Airline of the Year, have donated a total of three million dollars since a donation option was introduced to the booking process in July 2015.

Within its first year, the new donation option raised more than $720,000, and in July 2018, Norwegian introduced onboard donations featured in the personal in-flight entertainment system on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. American passengers are among the top donors with Californians donating the most to UNICEF.

Norwegian and UNICEF established its signature partnership in 2007. Since then the airline has supported various initiatives, which also includes its “Fill a Plane” campaign, saving hundreds of thousands of children. Five humanitarian flights carried out since 2014 have brought tons of emergency aid to the Central African Republic; the world’s second-largest refugee camp, Za’atari in Jordan; Mali; to Djibouti for relief to Yemen; and last year, to Chad.

Through the booking process customers can choose to donate $3, $5, $10 or $15, which will go directly to UNICEF. Donations can support the following:

  • $3 can provide a life-saving mosquito net, which will protect newborns against malaria;
  • $5 can enable UNICEF to vaccinate 20 children against polio;
  • $10 can provide an entire class of 20 students with exercise books; and
  • $15 can buy 38 packets of therapeutic food – enough for two-weeks of treatment for a malnourished child.

“I would like to personally thank all our wonderful customers for their generosity. Their donations help UNICEF ensure that even more children around the world get access to the future they deserve. When it is this easy to donate, we notice that many more contribute to such a great cause,” said Norwegian’s Founder and CEO, Bjørn Kjos.

“So much of UNICEF’s work is made possible by the ongoing generosity of partners like Norwegian Air,” said Caryl M. Stern, President and CEO, UNICEF USA. “We are incredibly grateful for the support and commitment of Norwegian Air and travelers to help UNICEF continue to put children first around the world. Every donation – large or small – makes a difference.”

Norwegian passengers donate the most as they also represent the largest nationality of the airline’s customer base. Most generous per donation, however, are the Danes. Among American customers, passengers out of Oakland are the most generous per donation (average $5.50 donation), followed by Los Angeles ($5.40) and New Yorkers ($5.08), although in total, more New Yorkers donated as the city is home to most Norwegian routes.

Top 10 routes where passengers have donated the most to UNICEF during their booking process:

1)  London – New York

2)  New York – London

3)  Bergen – Oslo

4)  Oslo – Bergen

5)  Trondheim – Oslo

6)   Los Angeles – London

7)   Stockholm – London

8)   London – Los Angeles

9)   Oslo – London

10) Oslo – Trondheim

Last year, nine Norwegian employees also raised more than $50,000 by representing the airline and UNICEF during the NYC Marathon. This year, another group of employees will do the same.

Stockwomann Gender-Neutral Store Floor

Known for its bold campaigns, such as changing its name to Stockwomann in celebration of International Women’s Day, the department store is now launching a gender-neutral shopping floor – located physically between men’s and women’s, on the 1.5 floor.

The floor features well-known brands such as Acne Studios, Calvin Klein and Marimekko, that have previously incorporated unisex styles in their collections. Fashionistas all over the world are exploring the possibilities of creating a bespoke style by combining items from renowned fashion houses, such as Burberry and Kenzo, and buying liberally from both departments.

The name of the shopping floor concept, One Way, speaks for itself. There is only one way in style; your own. With One Way, Stockmann wants to question old-fashioned norms and limits when it comes to dressing.

“Department stores, especially, tend to stick with outdated norms when it comes to how they allocate their offering under different departments. At the same time consumers are already buying quite liberally from both departments.”, says Laura Paikkari, Creative Director, TBWA\Helsinki.

“We believe that men’s and women’s departments should function as guidelines to finding the clothes that best fit your shape and style rather than definite rules to follow”, says Anna Salmi, CCO at Stockmann.

“With One Way we wanted to style and curate a selection of clothes that might not be designed ‘unisex’ but that work perfectly for all people. Our aim is to inspire our customers to forget the rules and shop unbiasedly,” Salmi adds.

“This is definitely a statement for equality. And brands that take a stand for what they believe in are the ones who shape the future.” Paikkari finishes.

As fashion month begins this week, it remains to be seen whether gender-neutrality will become the dominating trend this fall.

Noonday Dream was written and produced by Howard, with production contributions from regular collaborator and band-mate Mickey Smith. The album was recorded over the course of two years in various studios throughout Europe, including the legendary Sawmills Studio as well as locations in southwest France. The new recording continues to highlight Howard’s sonic evolution with unpredictable and textured arrangements and rich, emotive songwriting.

Howard’s debut album Every Kingdom was released in October 2011. The album sold more than one million copies globally, receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and winning him two Brit Awards in 2012 for “British Breakthrough” and “British Solo Male Artist.” The follow up, I Forget Where We Were, which was released in 2014 was met with similar critical and commercial acclaim—the album earned an Ivor Novello Award nomination, the U.K.’s most prestigious songwriting accolade, and charted #1 in the U.K. Howard’s music has amassed well over half a billion streams to date.

VERSUS BORG

Yesterday Björn Borg held a spectacular see-now-buy-now fashion show, VERSUS Borg, at The Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm. The show was a clear manifestation of the brand’s heritage as a tennis and sports brand and the launch of its ‘Signature Collection’ – strongly linked to the style icon Björn Borg himself and the iconic sportswear era during of the 1970’s.

The Signature Collection and the Main Fall Winter 2017 Collection, were showcased simultaneously formed by two armies epitomising retrospective and futuristic features. British stylist Tom Guinness presented a real hybrid between old and new points of the brand – clashing contrasts of retro silhouettes of the SIgnature Collection and bold, futuristic performance sportswear of Fall Winter 2017. Guinness gave a contemporary interpretation of the limited edition Signature Collection that highlighted the tracksuits in bold colours, sweatbands and sneakers. The Main Fall/Winter 2017 collection is a representation of maximal-minimal and more advanced technical active wear.

– This show emphasised what Björn Borg is all about and was an empowering statement for us. Contemporary and prospective, yet true to our DNA and the legacy as a tennis and sports brand. We wanted to state our position as the ultimate fashion sports brand, says Jonas Lindberg Nyvang, Global Marketing Director at Björn Borg.

Tom Guinness explains his involment and the inspiration behind the styling.

– Björn Borg was a pioneer of personal endorsements making some of the most stylish and recognizable collaborations really early on, and with that said the references are of course Björn Borg’s personal style in the 70’s which was ground-breaking especially for a European sports star. But I also drew inspiration from the disco era and the graphic color blocking of 1970’s sportswear.

The show took place on the centre court of the classic Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm, followed by two contrasting armies of models entering the crystal white tennis court. Music produced by and live performance by Simon Littauer. The runway show was livestreamed at bjornborg.com  and is to be watched on the campaign site. Signature Collection is now launched and available to shop online.
