Thurs Aug 8th – LIVE on 90.5 WBJB radio, NJ  (7pm EST)

“The Inoculated Canaries are a four-piece rock outfit from New York City with influences they describe as including Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Black Keys and Pink Floyd. That Whitman’s Sampler of artists is certainly on prominent parade in the group’s straight up, grass-fed approach to the rock-n-roll realm’s thumping beats and six-string gymnastics.”- ON THE BACK EDGE OF THE BEAT

Eclectic, boundary defying, and never lacking in sarcastic remarks, The Inoculated Canaries (in.oc.u.lat.ed  ca.nar.ies) are a rock and roll force to be reckoned with. Hailing from New York, the “four guys who can’t dance” are striving to leave their musical legacy; inspired by artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Nirvana, The Inoculated Canaries are constantly pushing themselves to explore new, innovative sounds while making their presence known.

The unforgettable quartet is composed of Michael Rubin (guitar, vocals), James Terranova (drums), Dylan Gross (bass), and Brian Sweeney (keyboard). Coming from diverse backgrounds and varied musical influences, the band values creativity above all else; striving to combine familiar elements with the unexpected, The Inoculated Canaries attempt to make sense of individualism and humanity in the most honest way possible:

“We want to take those raw human emotions we all feel in the darkness of our minds and write songs about them. We’re not here to be rich or famous, we’re here to be great. To us, Greatness means making music that is real, and we are absolutely relentless about every single note. Greatness means learning from the best, but always being original.  Greatness is sometimes having to stick up your middle finger to authority, convention and even the person in the mirror… Side-Effects may include crying, laughing, a sudden sense of existential dread, and/or hearing-loss.”

The rockers are immensely passionate about the music they share and the experience they create for fans. The band had the opportunity to open for The Mowglis in 2017 , COIN in 2019 and played ‘Cult of Personality’ live with Will Calhoun and Doug Wimbish of Living Colour. The Inoculated Canaries also worked directly with Matt Squire (producer of Panic! at the Disco, Ariana Grande, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Demi Lovato and more). They have also worked with producer David Caggiano (who worked with Art Garfunkel).

The Inoculated Canaries’ first EP “The Blue Laws” was soon followed by their single “Don’t Be Late”, a live prog performance “The Fifth Song” and an acoustic version of their song “Jericho”.  Their second EP “Trying Times” was also followed by singles “Count Me Out”, “Who Are You”, “The Lawyer’s Wife” and “Sneakers”.

GIRLS KICK SUMMER SOUNDS INTO ACTION

International singer/songwriter, K-Syran, celebrates the recognition of women at this year’s Ibiza Music Summit and personally promises a summer of stonking dance music.

Summer – gorgeous, warm, sparkling summer.  The trees are full, the blossom’s floating down like snow and we’re hankering after those delicious brushes of warm sunshine on our skin.  Don’t you just love it! But summer brings with it so much more than the seasonal sun – it also comes armed with a whole new bag of music. As spring blends into shimmering summer, our music industry flicks the switch on the vibe dial and suddenly we burst into action on the dance floor.

Summer is officially here and that means dance music is hot on the agenda for the next four months!

Just as the first buds of spring peep into view, our radio stations tempt and tease us as they sprinkle more vibrant and energized dance tracks across the airwaves.  From that moment, us music lovers know that the new season of music has sprung into life. Summer ‘sounds’ are equally as important as the summer sun and as the Ibiza Music Summit came to an end last weekend, it marked the official start of the dance music season, bring it on!

With three Top 10 dance hits of my own, I understand just how important dance music is to all of us.  Standing hand-in-hand with festivals and live gigs, dance clubs are one of the few places that our music can touch and interact with our audience on a live level.  That’s one of the few opportunities that we have to share the exhilarating musical experience as one. For me, that’s what music is all about, that touching-point with my audience.

So I applaud my musical sisters who made a stand at this year’s Ibiza Music Summit and addressed the vital topic of Diversity in Electronic Music. Tackling the issue of female representation within the electronic music industry, Jackie Antas of Live Nation exposed some vital statistics about us girls in the industry:

  • Just 1 out of 15 of Billboard’s One’s to Watch were women
  • No major music labels have female bosses
  • In 2014, only 18% of electronic labels include women on their rosters
  • Women made up 11% of rosters in 2016

I’m sure you’ll agree that these statistics are kinda shocking in what’s meant to be a equal world and within an industry which focuses so heavily on female talent.  The Summit discussed the need to implement a change in thought processes globally and it was agreed that there’s absolutely no doubt that the industry needs to represent women more fairly.  We shouldn’t label talent as ‘female artists’ or ‘female DJs’ – we should be equal enough to be label for our talent, not our gender.

Bring it on girls, let’s show the industry what we’re made of!  I’m kicking live and loud into this summer of dance with a bucket load of dance music that I’ll be releasing across the season.  I’ve been working with some awesome DJs and remixers to bring you the flavour of music that I know keeps you pumping in the clubs.  From awesome Dan Boots right through to the unparalleled talent of Jamie Lewis and Mr Mike – I’ve been working relentlessly in the studio with them all and I promise I’ll make this a musical summer that you won’t forget.  Watch this space – us girls will be lighting up those Ibiza dance floors very soon!

HipHop artist AK Releases New Single

HipHop artist AK gets emotional on self-produced “Ignorance Is Bliss”

On “Ignorance Is Bliss,” AK gets real and reveals the all-too-relatable truth behind the feelings of the rise to success – claiming it to be ‘a gift and a curse.’ The single sonically mimics the peaks and valleys of this emotional journey. While his quick-witted verses reiterate the raw emotional battle of figuring out who can and cannot be trusted on the rise to the top; AK’s aching chorus evokes the intense desire to remain ignorant to the deterrents discovered along the way in the people and places in life that once felt safe and secure.

With lyrics ‘blessings around me / still feel like I’m sinking,’ AK takes a deep dive into the reality of the rarely touched on emotional side effects that come along with a fast track to success – a track that AK can definitely relate to as he has become quite the chart topper in a mere couple of years since first releasing music.

AK’s series of original singles have garnered the #1 spot on the U.S. iTunes Hip Hop Chart, the U.S. Top 20 iTunes Hip Hop Chart, graced the Top 25 iTunes Charts in four other countries, and landed on YouTube Music’s ‘Flow Superior’ Playlist. With his recent releases “Why Would I?,” “Déjà Vu” and “Like I Got It,” AK has hit a sweet spot of blending Hip Hop and R&B genres that pack the perfect punch of his versatility as an artist in terms of tone, lyrics and vocal range.

While his single “Broken” strikes an emotionally raw chord, with an accompanying music video to match. The single perfectly portrays AK’s masterful vocal ability, carried by a chorus of his raw and emotive vocals. While the dark and dreary music video for “Broken” mirrors the tormented tongue-twister verses and pained falsetto-laced vocals evoked by the feeling of a purely broken heart and the one who broke it. With each music release bigger than the last, it goes to show that AK is the next big thing in Hip Hop.

“Valee is a quiet rapper making a lot of noise.” ——RollingStone

“Valee’s innovative style makes it impossible to predict what might come next.”  ——-Pitchfork

“Valee doesn’t sound like anything happening in Chicago hip-hop right now.” ——-Noisey

ABOUT VALEE:

In an era when aspiring public figures broadcast constantly in an effort to maximize their brand value, Valee’s coolly laconic stands apart. With short songs and a soft-spoken style, his unpredictable raps sketch subjects with a droll eye for detail over a bass-heavy canvas. This is trap music for the connoisseur, for fans of clever lyrics and effortless style. Valee grew up on Chicago’s South Side. When he received toys as a child, he would break them apart to figure out how they worked, a method he applies to his own process with music today:  “Sometimes I rap and cut and copy and paste and move parts around and it changes the whole song, for the better.” His music career began when, intent on buying a gaming system, he stopped at Guitar Center instead. “I just wanted to make beats better than what I hear on my mixtapes or on the radio, and I wanted to rap on it. I wasn’t thinking about anyone else at all.” His counterintuitive approach across five mixtapes and his G.O.O.D. Music debut EP, GOOD job, You Found Me, has captured the ears of artists and music aficionados alike, drawn to his unorthodox approach.

KYGO & WHITNEY HOUSTON RELEASE “HIGHER LOVE”

Following a string of current successes, global superstar, producer and DJ, Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll – a.k.a. Kygo releases new single “Higher Love” with Whitney Houston, the most awarded female artist of all time, via RCA Records.  The single marks the first new Whitney Houston music released in a decade, since 2009’s “I Look To You.” Both Kygo and Pat Houston spoke to Rolling Stone to explain the collaboration HERE.

Pat Houston said of the single, “The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and our new partner Primary Wave are delighted with the collaboration between KYGO and WHITNEY. We knew KYGO would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on ‘Higher Love,’  to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades.

The resurgence of this precious archival performance will carry Whitney’s musical legacy on to a younger generation for years to come.   Everyone should be ready to dance to this uplifting and inspiring record – a testament to KYGO’s incredible talent, and a reminder of why we fell in love with Whitney from the very beginning!!!”

Kygo added, “I was honored when the Whitney Houston estate reached out and presented me with the opportunity to work with one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. I reworked the song from scratch and am really happy with how it turned out!”

“Higher Love” is a cover of the 1986 Steve Winwood classic, which celebrated its 33rd anniversary on June 20th. The Whitney Houston estate presented Kygo with the archival recording of Whitney’s version, which was previously released as a Japan-only bonus track on her I’m Your Baby Tonight physical album in 1990. Upon hearing the Whitney track, Kygo raced into the studio, thrilled to be given the opportunity to make music with one of the greatest female vocalists of all time.

“Higher Love” was written by Steve Winwood, Will Jennings and produced by Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll and Narada Michael Walden. Kygo is set to perform this song for the first time this Sunday, June 30th, at PrideFestival Utopia in New York City.
