COMMON TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM LET LOVE

GRAMMY® Award-winning rapper COMMON will release his new album Let Love on August 30, 2019, his debut for Loma Vista Recordings.

Pre-order it HERE.

In tandem with this announcement, he shared his latest single and music video entitled “Hercules” [feat. Swizz Beatz]. On the track, he serves up his sharp signature wordplay between soulful backing vocals from Swizz Beatz. Meanwhile, the music video directed by Carrick [Weezer] sees Common thwart a convenience store robbery caught on surveillance camera—in between rapping into his iPhone. Vince Staples makes a cameo as the cashier.

Watch the action unfold HERE.

“Hercules” follows on the heels of the recent single “HER Love” featuring Daniel Caesar, special guest Dwele, and an unreleased beat from J Dilla. Not only did the song amass over 1 million cumulative streams and 339K views on the Savanah Leaf-directed music video within a week, but it also received widespread critical acclaim. VIBE called the song “a State of the Rap Union as he addresses the rise and expansion of hip-hop throughout the past 25 years.” Rolling Stone added that it was “Common’s homage to hip-hop”, and OkayPlayer professed that it’s “his most impactful body of work yet.”

Download “Hercules” HERE.

About the album, he shared, “This album is inspired by the book, “Let Love Have The Last Word” which gave me a path to write about things I had never written about before. It forced me to go deeper and because I opened up about so many things in the book, I was charged to go to raw, personal and spiritual places in the music. Production-wise, I knew that the music had to have depth, soul and dimension to it. I wanted the musicianship and the spirit of what live music brings, but it also had to have something raw and basement about it. When my team said, “You should do some music revolving around the book,” I just took that energy and went running into my artistry without focusing on anything else. No movies, no commercials, no parties (well, I don’t do that too much anyway) and I just worked on music. So this album is the culmination of this journey, this passion and this Divine Love that I have for one of GOD’s greatest gifts – MUSIC.”

COMMON will kick off his Let Love Tour, which starts in Denver, Colorado at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom tonight, and continues through marquee venues in the US and Canada before touring Europe for the first time since 2014. Special guests include Nicole Bus, July 11 –July 26, and Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh, August 7 – August 29. Each pair of tickets on the second leg of tour dates will come with new music—details to be emailed to ticket holders.

HipHop artist AK Releases New Single

HipHop artist AK gets emotional on self-produced “Ignorance Is Bliss”

On “Ignorance Is Bliss,” AK gets real and reveals the all-too-relatable truth behind the feelings of the rise to success – claiming it to be ‘a gift and a curse.’ The single sonically mimics the peaks and valleys of this emotional journey. While his quick-witted verses reiterate the raw emotional battle of figuring out who can and cannot be trusted on the rise to the top; AK’s aching chorus evokes the intense desire to remain ignorant to the deterrents discovered along the way in the people and places in life that once felt safe and secure.

With lyrics ‘blessings around me / still feel like I’m sinking,’ AK takes a deep dive into the reality of the rarely touched on emotional side effects that come along with a fast track to success – a track that AK can definitely relate to as he has become quite the chart topper in a mere couple of years since first releasing music.

AK’s series of original singles have garnered the #1 spot on the U.S. iTunes Hip Hop Chart, the U.S. Top 20 iTunes Hip Hop Chart, graced the Top 25 iTunes Charts in four other countries, and landed on YouTube Music’s ‘Flow Superior’ Playlist. With his recent releases “Why Would I?,” “Déjà Vu” and “Like I Got It,” AK has hit a sweet spot of blending Hip Hop and R&B genres that pack the perfect punch of his versatility as an artist in terms of tone, lyrics and vocal range.

While his single “Broken” strikes an emotionally raw chord, with an accompanying music video to match. The single perfectly portrays AK’s masterful vocal ability, carried by a chorus of his raw and emotive vocals. While the dark and dreary music video for “Broken” mirrors the tormented tongue-twister verses and pained falsetto-laced vocals evoked by the feeling of a purely broken heart and the one who broke it. With each music release bigger than the last, it goes to show that AK is the next big thing in Hip Hop.

K-Syran performs

In K-Syran‘s Words:

What a week! From my shoot in a studio in London where I stayed 3 hours in a pool filming underwater shots in the beautiful Three Graces dresses, to flying to Malaga for my Manilva Pride gig.

Spain is beautiful with it’s gorgeous coast line and delicious food.
I arrived the day before so that I could get to enjoy swimming in the sea.
On the big day, Saturday, I was picked up by a lovely man who volunteered to help out. This is why I love performing for GayPride; it’s a celebration of love and everyone is so generous and helpful. The tech went brilliantly with super talented producer Dan Boots and team from Intimacy Records attending, checking sound and images. I didn’t get to meet my dancers but lucky to finally meet amazing Christian Lee Dun who organises Manilva Pride.

We were all picked up at around ten thirty, I was dolled up in my striking green K-Syran designer dress by renowned Zaid Farouki and jewlery by Esfir Jewels – I felt like a diva! There were thousands of people already attending cheering and having a wonderful time.

I had the best time ever on stage with them and the loving fun audience cheering us on. Such a thrill to perform my own songs live in front of an audience who are so warm and generous and to see them dancing to my tunes makes me feel that all the work I do is defiantly worth it!

T.I. Launches Tech Cypha

This February, Hip-Hop Entrepreneurs are making black history by advancing the technology industry. Clifford Harris Jr, known as “T.I.,” launches a new syndicated investment vehicle called Tech Cypha with business partner Jason Geter and Brandon “BL” Lewis; son of late great boxing promoter and entrepreneur Butch Lewis. Leveraging technologies such as Airbnb, Lyft and Lime through the eyes of hip-hop culture, the team also launched a Los Angeles-based entertainment startup called Culture Genesis. Together, the new collaborative investment strategy allows high-net-worth individuals to participate in trending tech startup deals.

The strategy evolved when Geter and Harris made their first investment 12 years ago into a company called Streetcred.com, a site that allowed fans to go online and share opinions about street culture. While that first deal didn’t work out, Geter and Harris maintained interest in the technology and startup scene to create opportunities for their networks and promote new businesses.

“We learned a lot,” says Harris. “Now, we know where our demographic is.”

For Geter, that demographic is taking advantage of Atlanta’s surging position as a cultural and technological mecca in the United States. Indeed, Atlanta-area startups raised roughly $1.15 billion in 2018, a record for the region, according to data from PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association.

“Being in the city of Atlanta and with Georgia Tech producing so much talent, and coming from us being within the hip-hop culture, which is always influencing and promoting things, we saw an opportunity,” says Geter. “In the past, we were always looking through the glass window and looking at ways we can participate earlier. And that’s by coming together to pool our resources so we can invest more.”

Through informed mentorship programs and partnerships, Tech Cypha will include using influencers in various fields. Currently, the syndicate includes Lil Duval, Killer Mike, Tamika ‘Tiny’ Harris, Tai Green, Korey Roberson, Stephanie Shirley, and BJ Kerr among others. As an industry leader, Lewis is known for his talent in branding, marketing and partnership deals.

“Often times, we drive technology like social media and apps, but we are never apart of the ownership,” Lewis continues, “Tech Cypha is going to be an investment vehicle looking for promising, early and late-stage startups to invest capital in, assist with marketing and give branding directions. It’s our way of bridging the gap between the culture and technology.”
