Hailing from the suburbs of Auckland, 19-year-old indie pop artist BENEE has made her mark on the world with her debut FIRE ON MARZZ EP out today—listen HERE!

On FIRE ON MARZZ, BENEE noted, “When it came to coming up with a name for my EP, what first came to mind was wanting a phrase that was a big old explosion, because that’s kinda what the EP feels like to me. I came up with the name FIRE ON MARZZ and thought it did the best job at not really relating to any song in the EP. I didn’t think there was a phrase that could sum them all up.”

Coming off the heels of her Gold-Certified hit “Soaked,” “Evil Spider,” and recent single “Want Me Back,” the EP also including three new songs: “Glitter,” “Wishful Thinking,” and “Afterlife.” The EP artwork was created by Ricardo Cavolo and continues the BENEE tradition of artistic collaborations to illustrate her music. BENEE says, “I considered what the EP was going to look like visually when I named it. I wanted to find an artist that could really pour all the colours that I feel from each song into a piece of art. Ricardo Cavolo is this crazzzy coool Spanish artist whose flames instantly stood out to me. We had a phone conversation where I said that I wanted Mars to be on fire in it, but I also wanted him to go wild on a bunch of weird doodles that might come to mind when listening to the songs on my EP and he nailedddd itttt.”

BENEE recently performed her first ever New York and Los Angeles shows with sold out crowds and rave reviews. Look out for more tour dates soon!

Bene Drops “Evil Spider”

Hailing from the suburbs of Auckland, 19-year-old indie pop artist Bene returns with her latest single “Evil Spider,” out today—listen HERE! Coming off the heels of her Gold-Certified hit “Soaked,” the up and coming singer and songwriter also announces her upcoming debut EP is set for release on June 28.

Of “Evil Spider,” Bene says, “‘Evil Spider’ is about wanting someone that’s already taken. When writing the song, I didn’t wanna make the lyrics too obviously evil, so I thought I’d turn myself into the spider, making it a lil lighter and making the song revolve around me weaving webs to lure the person, catch ‘em like a spider then reel them in. I remember humming ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ in the studio, which inspired the playful vibe of the song.”

After posting GarageBand demos on SoundCloud when she was just a senior in high school, Bene caught the ear of producer, Josh Fountain, and began writing and recording at his Golden Age Studio. “Soaked” quickly climbed Spotify’s Viral Charts, streaming over 14 million times, charting on Australia’s Triple J radio Hottest 100 of 2018 and holding the number one spot on New Zealand’s Shazam Top 100 for two months, not to mention achieving Gold Certification in New Zealand and Australia. With endorsements like Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats1 radio, Bene went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show—opening for longtime role model Lily Allen—in a matter of months. Of “Soaked,” Bene says, “To see my song catch on with so many people already has been amazing. And now signing with Republic to bring my music out into the world is just bloody crazy.” “Soaked” sets the stage for further music to be released from Bene this spring.

ABOUT BENE Vi·sion·ar·y – as defined by Google – is a (noun) person with original ideas who plans the future with imagination or wisdom. With both traits in abundance well beyond her 19 years, New Zealand’s Bene redefines the word. Carving out a space between indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern “pop music” to create a sonic landscape all her own. Growing up in suburban Auckland, New Zealand among a community of creatives, Bene was immersed in the arts from a young age, and after releasing a series of self-released GarageBand covers on SoundCloud, Bene was soon writing and recording at Golden Age Studio with producer Josh Fountain in her senior year of high school. Just two weeks after enrolling in university, Bene dropped out with a now unstoppable and feverish conviction to pursue music full-time. After releasing her breakout single “Soaked” in 2018, what she refers to as her ‘Benevision’— or “the idea that all of my music, visuals and content contribute to a greater artwork.”—immediately hit home.
