HoverGlide × First “Floating” Backpack

Lightning Packs Introduces HoverGlide – The World’s First “Floating” Backpack

Pack Features Patented “Suspended Load Technology” That Reduces Impact Forces on Users While Walking or Running by Up to 86%; Kickstarter Campaign Launches Today to Fund Its Final Development

Lightning Packs today introduced HoverGlide, the world’s first “floating” backpack. Featuring patented Suspended Load Technology (SLT) that has been scientifically proven to reduce impact forces on users while walking or running by up to 86%, HoverGlide is the perfect solution for people looking to reduce stress and weight load on their backs, necks, knees and ankles while hiking, trekking or even commuting in the city. The Kickstarter campaign, which is being managed by the Launchpad Agency, launches today with a funding goal of $75,000 USD. The campaign features limited Super Early Bird Specials at $349 as well as several other rewards for backers to choose from. The campaign can be seen at: kck.st/2IbKMUf

HoverGlide’s industry-first functionality is due to its patented double-frame and suspension system design (a.k.a. SLT) that features two frames – a fixed frame, which incorporates the harness that users wear on their back, and the moving frame, which incorporates the bag and can slide relative to the fixed frame. The moving frame is suspended from the fixed frame by a patented shock reducing mechanism, which is tensioned such that during walking or running, the pack stays at a constant height relative to the ground even as the user’s torso moves up and down.

HoverGlide is available in two frame sizes and four distinct packs. Sitting on a 24” frame, the HoverGlide “Trekker” is a 55L rugged gear hauler for backcountry adventures that securely holds enough equipment and food for two- to three-day trips. Weighing in at approximately 9 lbs, the Trekker features a sleeve for a hydration reservoir, zippers and pockets for easy access to essentials and compression straps to secure the load. The Trekker’s 24” frame permits users to suspend up to 55 lbs (more weight can be carried but the SLT must be locked).

HoverGlide is also available on a patented 20” modular frame design, which can accept three interchangeable packs – the 28L daily “Commuter,” the 30L “Hiker” and the 30L “Tactical.” The small packs weigh in from 5.5 lbs to 7 lbs depending on materials, and the maximum load that can be suspended on the 20” frame is 27 lbs (more weight can be carried but the SLT must be locked).

“HoverGlide is the result of years and years of development and testing, and the result is a fundamentally different way for people to carry loads,” said Dr. Lawrence Rome, founder, Lightning Packs. “HoverGlide dramatically reduces the impact forces during locomotion, even permitting running comfortably with heavy loads. The lower forces reduce the potential for acute and long-term injury and also reduce the metabolic energy needed to carry a backpack. So, people can move faster with lower exertion.”

About Lightning Packs

Lightning Packs, LLC was founded by Dr. Lawrence Rome, a muscle physiology expert and professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Using Suspended Load Technology, a technology that Rome invented and patented (5 US Patents, 3 Canadian Patents, 2 European Patents and 1 Australian Patent issued), Lightning Packs is creating backpacks for consumers that “float” on a user’s back, dramatically reducing stress and weight load on their bodies as they walk or run. Field-tested and approved by the US Army and US Marine Corps, Lightning Packs backpacks offer rugged functionality and are one of the most significant innovations in backpacks in the last 30 years. OVERNIGHT MOAB ADVENTURE

Overnight Sensations –

Moab Adventure Center Offers Options

For Visitors Short on Vacation Time

Short on vacation time this summer? Utah’s Moab Adventure Center suggests that a two-day break in a brand-new setting and doing something outside your comfort zone can feel like a week away.

“Moab is a great stopping point for that cross-country road trip or brief weekend getaway,” notes Moab Adventure Center Manager Cort Wright. “With so many half-, full-day and overnight adventures to choose from, no one is ever disappointed!”

Wright recommends these two water-themed, short-break options in the iconic red rock playground of Moab, encircled by two national parks and the Colorado River.

Option one is Colorado River/Moab 2-Day Adventure with one night of catered camping under the stars and rafting that begins where red rock cliffs cast towering reflections on the river.  The per person double rate of $295 includes all meals (including a barbecue lunch at a riverside lodge), camping equipment, transfers, and a choice of three different kinds of boats in which to experience the fun of rafting nearly 20 miles. Guests have the option of letting the guides stay in charge rowing an oar raft, or they can be part of the paddling crew on paddle rafts. Two-person inflatable kayaks are also provided so guests can take turns paddling on their own. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/colorado-river-adventure

Option two, Cataract CanyonRapid Express: Moab to Lake Powell, is a 2-day Colorado River/Moab raft and camp (one night) through 46-mile Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River as it cuts through the heart of Canyonlands National Park.  Just 30 minutes west of Moab, guests board customized, high-speed rafts that depart for a two-day, 100-mile Colorado River voyage. Experienced professional guides share folklore and facts about ancient Native American civilizations and early settlers while dropping into a series of nearly 30 whitewater rapids that make Cataract Canyon legendary. The journey ends on the scenic and still waters of Lake Powell before shuttling back to Moab. The per person double rate of $760 includes hiking, camping equipment, meals, rafting and transfers. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/cataract-canyon-express.

A third option is for visitors who have secured their own lodging in the area and are looking for iconic adventure. A Moab Signature Vacation Package (with deluxe upgrade option) offers two days of activities with on-own lodging that include on Day One, an Arches National Park Tour in the morning and in the afternoon a Slickrock Hummer Safari. On Day Two comes a morning Colorado River rafting adventure. The per person rate is $215. With a $35 per person upgrade the Hummer Safari turns deluxe and includes drinks and appetizers at sunset and the rafting adventure moves from half-day to full-day and includes a barbecue lunch. Wild Women Expeditions

Pioneers in Women-Only Travel Invite Adventurers to Patagonia

Wild Women Expeditions-Style

When sailing ships smashed through high seas many years ago, often a lady rode with them. Symbolic of the female adventurer, she was the carved wooden figurehead on the prow taking on the full force of wind, waves and whatever life came her way.

Gone is the girl on the prow, but Patagonia, at the bottom of the world, similarly tugs imaginations. Wild Women Expeditions (http://wildwomenexpeditions.com/) understands that women need to test their mettle against the wind in wild places. This company has designed two new trips to draw small women-only groups to Patagonia in 2018 and 2019. One trip is a multi-sport adventure; the other is an exploration on horseback.

Torres del Paine Multisport Adventure departure dates are Feb. 3-12 (waitlist being taken) and March 12-21, 2018. This program is also scheduled in 2019 for Feb. 3-12, March 2-11 and March 17-26. The per person double rate for 10 days and nine nights is $5,295 including English-speaking female guide and activity specialist guides, accommodations, all meals, and all equipment for excursions including sleeping bags for hiking overnights, mountain bikes, sea kayaks, horses and tack and corresponding safety equipment. The playground is an other-worldly landscape of peaks, glaciers, wild horses, pampas and lakes that composes Torres del Paine National Park. Challenges come by way of hiking up to eight hours per hike, kayaking, mountain biking up to four hours per outing, and a six-hour horseback ride. In adherence to sustainable practices, participants reside in tented Eco Camp Patagonia Domes, with two women paired in a tent and a scenic lodge in shared huts. Punta Arenas is the gateway. Please see https://wildwomenexpeditions.com/trips/torres-del-paine-multisport-adventure/.

Patagonia Cordillera Riding Adventure departure dates are Jan 22-Feb. 1, Feb. 5-15 (waitlist being taken) and March 4-14, 2018. Dates for 2019 will be announced shortly. The per person double rate for 11 days and 10 nights is $3,395 including 11 days of horseback riding into the rugged heart of the Andes, the cordillera chain of mountain ranges, by way of strong and surefooted Argentine Criollos. The rate includes a seven-day pack trip; horses, pack mules and riding gear; professional female wrangler guides; 10 nights of on and off-grid shared accommodation including the first two nights and the night before departure at an estancia where Ranquilco Lodge showcases its eco-sensitive off-the-grid homestead systems; camping equipment; hand-crafted meals; laundry services; roundtrip transfers from Neuquen Airport to destination in the rugged heart of the Andes. Estancia hospitality serves up locavore along with off-the-grid living before heading to the cordillera (mountain range) to ride trails deep into the Andes and into the simple lifestyle of the gauchos. Guests are transferred from and back to Presidente Perón International Airport in Neuquén Province, Argentina. Please see https://wildwomenexpeditions.com/trips/patagonia-horse-adventure/.

Wild Women Expeditions already tops the list with more active travel departures for women only than any other tour company in the world. In this unique niche, this company also outpaces other companies with more women-only horseback riding trips. In addition to Patagonia, equestriennes can travel to

  • Iceland — Golden Circle Riding Adventure, nine days at $3,295 per person; Women & Girls Golden Circle Riding Adventure, seven days at $1,995 per person; Hekla Volcano Riding Adventure, nine days at $3,295 per person
  • British Columbia — Chilcotin Cowgirl Riding Adventure, eight days at $3,495CAD per person
  • Mongolia – Orkhon Valley Horseback Adventure, 14 days at $2,295 per person; and Marvels of Mongolia, 14 days at $2,895 per person, mixing trekking with camel and horseback riding.
  • Ireland – Connemara Riding Adventure, seven days at $3,295 per person.

A quarter century ago Wild Women Expeditions pioneered today’s steam-charged movement encouraging women to travel in small women-only groups. “What Wild Women Expeditions does is give women the opportunity to achieve amongst other women, test boundaries, take risks and become leaders,” says Jennifer Haddow, Owner/Director.

About

Founded in 1991, Wild Women Expeditions is the world’s largest women-only travel company. Its initial focus was on canoeing on remote Ontario waters. Through an unwavering focus on Canada, one of the wildest, most pristine countries in the world, Wild Women Expeditions became Canadian experts in a pioneering niche that introduced small groups of women into wilderness settings. Even though the company now hosts guests all over the world, it retains a national focus with more trips and more women-only, backcountry camping adventures in Canada than any other women’s travel company in the world.
