The Mayfair

Music, sports, television and fashion stars rang in the new decade in Las Vegas with a night of dancing and dining at the grand opening of Bellagio Resort & Casino’s glamourous new supper club, The MayfairLeona LewisNina Dobrev, Tanner Novlan and Kayla Ewell, Candice and Joe King, Shaun White and Daniel Bamdad were amongst the revelers. On Friday, Lady Gaga brought 100 of her dancers and friends to The Mayfair for an early New Year’s celebration before the restaurant opened to the public.

Filled with live performances and surprise acts, The Mayfair Supper Club overlooks the Bellagio Fountains and evolves from a swinging prohibition-era jazz club to a late-night dance party that modernizes the Roaring ‘20s for the 2020s.

British singer-songwriter and “X-Factor” star Leona Lewis headed to Vegas to support new hubby Dennis Jauch, who is co-founder of No Ceilings Entertainment, the production powerhouse that produced The Mayfair’s incredible entertainment experience. The duo, who tied the knot in Italy this summer, met in 2010 when Jauch was a dancer on her tour.  Throughout the night, Lewis was glued to performances by the dancers, singers and musicians – many of whom she saw during the casting process – snapping pictures and videos and congratulating Jauch.

“Vampire Diaries” cast Nina Dobrev, Tanner Novlan and wife Kayla Ewell, and Candice (Accola) King reunited at the bash celebrating New Year’s Eve at a Fountain-side table, dining and dancing into the early morning. Olympic champion and snowboarding legend Shaun White, and Accola’s husband and The Fray’s guitarist Joe King, also joined the party. At midnight, the Novlans rang in 2020 with a sweet kiss on The Mayfair’s dance floor.

Lewis, Dobrev, Ewell and King complimented each other’s stunning NYE attire and joined together for celebratory photos, followed by Lewis and Dobrev snapping selfies together.

German model Daniel Bamdad was pulled on stage, blindfolded and fed cream pie as singers and dancers teased him during one of The Mayfair’s boundary-breaking performances that concluded with a hilarious bait and switch that had Bamdad – and guests throughout the restaurant – roaring.

The Mayfair Supper Club is open Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m. For more information, please visit The Mayfair Supper Club’s website.

Four Seasons New York Downtown

Redefining Relaxation

By Vaughn Lowery

Every now and again, we all should consume some time out of our hectic lives to enjoy a stay at one of the most sought-after institutions in lower Manhattan – the Four Seasons New York Downtown [FS NY Downtown]. Since its conception three years ago, this micro-resort is poised to be an award-winning campus with offerings geared towards a more youthful clientele.

By far one of the more prestigious properties within the five boroughs, containing 189 rooms and suites. This five-star accommodation is perched in the prominent Tribeca area of downtown NYC within walking distance from an array of activities, including Brookfield Place and the conspicuous West 4th Street. Guest floors are from the 7th to 24th with the lobby, CUT by Wolfgang Puck and meeting suite on the lower levels. The swank, slim facade also incorporates a 157 private residences which are housed between the 38th to 82nd levels.

An architectural digest of diversity with symmetrical designations throughout, celebrating geometrics alongside of high-caliber appointments. It was fabricated and brought to life by design firm Yabu Pushelberg to delight the senses and erupt an emotional connectedness to its surroundings. After all, its parents are known to construct immersive environments where pedestrians can both coexist and congregate. Particular thanks to the warm tones, recessed lighting and Italian marble.

Minutes away from downtown Brooklyn and the newly bustling Jersey City neighborhoods, Four Seasons Downtown is poised to become an influential millennial safe haven for digital nomads and senior level executives alike. Staying true to the Four Seasons marquee, the degree of service coupled with attentive staff is unprecedented. This pet-friendly, modern-lux lodge possesses a 24 hr fitness center, which easily rivals an Equinox facility: kettlebells, free weights, ample high-tech machines, yoga mats, stretching area, foam rollers, group instruction and a Peloton stationary bike.

The day spa area bears Marc Jacobs collaborative merchandise, a 75-foot indoor lap pool (open daily from 6am-9pm with on-duty lifeguard) and steamroom. Within the spa lounges, there’s plenty of toiletries at your disposal for decompression: shaving kit, dental kit, shower shoes, robes, mouthwash, hair gel, deodorant spray, q-tips, disposable combs/brushes and electronic programmable lockers. Complimentary bottles of water are readily available and rose petal hydration facial mist to make you feel even more reinvigorated. And, there’s a plethora of onsite services which are offered from aromatherapy to facials.

The Barclay, Tribeca as well as Hudson suites possesses dual vanities and can hold up to 4 adults with 2 bedrooms, full bath and a half bath/powder room. Some of the suites come equipped with a butler kitchen and patio. If available, the bang for your buck are the executive suites, which contain spacious great rooms; even so, they don’t have a balcony.

With ample views of the One World Trade Center and its Oculus, the Four Seasons New York Downtown is an emerald which is certain to stimulate your heart chakra as well as drizzle positivity onto spirits. If you’re seeking a white-glove experience in a contemporary environment, then this is your spot.

Spotlight: Japan 2020

With major hype surrounding the upcoming summer games in Tokyo, Japan is poised to have its best year yet. Plus: a roster of luxury hotel openings and exciting destinations beyond the popular tourist track.

Opening in January, the Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono will offer a refined hideaway in one of Asia’s best ski destinations: Hokkaido. In May, the HOSHINOYA Okinawa will open in the Yomitan Village, an archipelago of serene coral reefs, as a sleek beachfront hotel with an innovative fusion restaurant.

A 90-minute bullet train from Tokyo is the Tohoku region, an ideal addition to an adventurous Japan trip. Known for its bustling capital city, Sendai, and dramatic landscapes allowing for myriad outdoor activities, Tohoku is home to off-beat culture and festivals, like the Namahage Festival in February.

Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside

For the seventh year in a row, Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside has been recognized as the best ski hotel in Canada by consumers and leading industry professionals. Held on November 23rd, in Kitzbühel, Austria, the World Ski Awards – regarded as “the Oscars of the travel industry” – honoured the all-suite, lodge-style hotel for its impeccable and personalized service, outstanding amenities, and unrivalled location steps from gondolas to both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.

The World Ski Awards were created to elevate standards within the ski industry, recognizing, rewarding, and celebrating excellence in ski tourism across the globe. Awards span across the world’s top 25 ski tourism nations, with categories that include ‘Best Ski Resort’, ‘Best Ski Hotel’, ‘Best Ski Boutique Hotel’, and ‘Best Ski Chalet’. Each year, hundreds of thousands of tourism professionals, skiers, and media cast their votes for their favourite ski tourism destinations and brands; and this year, winners were celebrated at the three-day awards gala that took place between November 22nd and 24th

Pan Pacific Whistler overcame a strong mix of contenders from across the country, defeating properties such as The Fairmont Banff Springs, The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, The Rimrock Resort Hotel, and Post Hotel & Spa. Neighbouring properties, including Four Seasons Resort & Residences Whistler, and The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, were also nominated for the national award.

“Our team is so humbled and beyond thrilled to once again be named the best ski hotel in Canada”, said Julie Lanteigne, general manager of Pan Pacific Whistler hotels. “It’s so gratifying to have been nominated among such an elite group of properties across the world and to know that this prestigious title is a result of votes from our visitors and industry peers alike. An award such as this continues to motivate us to elevate the experience of each guest as they discover why Whistler is regarded as the world-class ski destination that it is.”

The property’s sister resort – Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre – located in the heart of Whistler Village, received a nomination for best ski boutique hotel. The Josie Hotel Named Canada’s Best Ski Boutique Hotel at 2019 World Ski AwardsRossland’s ski-in, ski-out boutique resort wins coveted World Ski Award

The Josie Hotel — the Kootenay Rockies’ home base for adventure on RED Mountain — has been awarded Canada’s Best Boutique Ski Hotel in the 2019 World Ski Awards. Canada’s Best Boutique Ski Hotel is one of the most coveted categories in the prestigious World Ski Awards competition. This year, a record number of votes were cast, and The Josie stood apart from the over 1.6 million votes cast by wanderlusters and adventurers alike craving fresh powder and alpine air. Topping it off, the Noble House Hotels & Resorts property was also named one of the top three resorts in the World’s Best New Ski Hotel category.

Since opening in November 2018, the hotel – situated along the world-renowned Powder Highway – has attracted global interest among ski and snowboard enthusiasts seeking pristine powder and terrain that fulfils adrenaline rushes.

The World Ski Awards aims to raise the bar within the ski industry by recognizing and rewarding organizations that demonstrate leadership in the field of ski tourism. Votes for the World Ski Awards were cast by professionals working within the ski and snowboard industry, including senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media; as well as by consumers with a hunger for winter wanderings. The winners, now considered the best in the world, met at the annual World Ski Awards gala, which took place this year in Kitzbühel, Austria, from November 22 to 24.

“It is such an honour to be named among the best in the world and receive the coveted award of Canada’s Best Ski Boutique Hotel,” said Jesse Crockett, general manager of The Josie. “Sharing Rossland’s story with the world is one of our top priorities — the local culture that is deeply embedded in our hotel is one of the reasons we think we stand out. It’s the rich history and friendly atmosphere (not to mention prime skiing and snowboarding) that brings people to Rossland. It is extremely humbling the World Ski Awards has recognized not only The Josie, but also Rossland, for excellence in ski tourism.”

LES SUITES AT THE CLIFF BAY, five-star, PORTOBAY HOTELS & RESORTS, 360 MAGAZINE, Portugal, hotels, preferred hotels, resorts, lodging

LES SUITES AT THE CLIFF BAY

OPENS ON MADEIRA

The new five-star Les Suites at The Cliff Bay with 23 luxury suites is the PortoBay group’s most exclusive property on the island of Madeira (Portugal). The experience combines comfort, luxury and history with elegant suites and a new designer restaurant, the Avista. Two century-old manors and a new wing set in lush gardens with amazing views offer an unforgettable stay.

Les Suites at The Cliff Bay is located just northeast of The Cliff Bay hotel, off of Funchal’s Estrada Monumental, and occupies a total area of 6,000 square meters.

Sitting atop of a promontory, the hotel incorporates two historic houses, both from the beginning of the last century: one hosts the check-in and two very exclusive suites; the other has a restaurant with different dining areas with a team led by Chef Benoît Sinthon. The new wing consists of 21 spacious luxury suites with large balconies. The buildings are connected by beautiful gardens with an infinity pool and unique views of the Atlantic and Funchal bay.

An idyllic location with access to all the facilities of the neighboring The Cliff Bay hotel, for the true comfort and convenience of the PortoBay hotels.

SPACIOUS SUITES

The new wing offers two different types of rooms — suites and duplex suites. Both are spacious and comfortable with a sitting room, bedroom and closet, living room, marble bathroom and large balconies with breathtaking views. The 15 Suites (60 m2 + 17 m2 balcony) overlook the Atlantic, and the nine located on the ground floor have access to a cosy private garden. The 6 Duplex Suites (66 m2 + 15 m2 balconies) have living and sleeping areas on separate floors. There are two bathrooms and one very exclusive detail; a private lift inside the room.

In the historic house, the Master Suite (85 m2 + 36 m2 balcony) has two bedrooms, kitchenette and an enormous balcony. The Artistic Suite (63 m2 + 16 m2 balconies), is a suite with a difference located on the top floor.

Every detail has been carefully selected to ensure added comfort. Natural and classic materials are to the fore: walnut wood for the floors, cabinets and other finishes, a Greek marble bathroom, double sinks, a large bath and shower cubicle, three mirrors and Bvlgari amenities. In the bedroom there are spacious beds (2×1 or 2×1.20 meters wide) with elegant natural leather headboards, natural neutral tone textiles and warm lighting. Balconies include comfortable furniture to enjoy the view.

In terms of technology, the entire hotel has wifi and the suites are serviced by two large, movable 49-inch Smart TVs with USB and HDMI connections.

BREATHTAKING VIEWS AND RELAXING LIVING AREAS

Its seafront location offers the framing of the lush gardens, the infinity line on the horizon and a viewpoint. The infinity pool with its unique setting, jacuzzi and harmonious solarium give Les Suites an idyllic feel. The other leisure facilities include gardens, lounges and terraces, gym and pilates room.

AVISTA RESTAURANT

The Avista Restaurant & Lounges are set in one of the century-old houses with direct street access, which combines a contemporary wing and comfortable outdoor areas.

Inside, the neutral colors blend with some bold details, to frame the memorable landscape that is visible through the glass walls. The tile mural by artist Meinke Flesseman adds a distinctive touch to the ‘pavilion’. On the floor above, a panel by photographer Henrique Seruca represents the fresh local fish.

Here you can experience the sharing concept applied to different culinary experiences inspired by Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. The kitchen is open from 12 noon to 10pm, serving up food ranging from Josper’s grill menu, Asian options, snacks, menu of the day, pastries, afternoon tea, snacks and cocktails.
Avista’s Mediterranean menu offers comfort food, combining the freshness of local ingredients with a more relaxed cooking style — the barbecue grill. Vegetables from the PortoBay garden, fish from the coast, seafood and different cuts of meat are prepared in a Josper oven, a type of closed grill that cooks at high temperatures, giving the food the unique flavor of the embers and a succulent texture. Local produces like the tropical fruits of Madeira, limpets, caco bread and local fish from the coast are all highly prized.

Avista’s Asian menu is designed with the Japanese concept of ‘raw food’ in mind. Sushi, sashimi and ceviche are prepared in the open kitchen, as are warm dishes such as poke bowl and ramen. They are made with refined techniques and local and oriental produce for an elegant and delicate result.

The Avista snack menu offers warm and cold options as you relax in the lounges. In the afternoon, you can personalize a tea of your choice with homemade scones, mini sandwiches and petit fours.

The wine cellar offers an original collection, with national and international wines carefully chosen by sommelier Roberto Drummond to match the chefs’ creations. Avista offers an extensive and daring cocktail menu by award-winning bartender Eusébio Silva.
Guided by Chef Benoît Sinthon (The Cliff Bay, Il Gallo d´Oro restaurant, 2 Michelin stars), Avista’s Mediterranean menu is coordinated by Chef João Luz while the Asian-inspired menu is the responsibility of Chef Luísa Castro.

ACCESS TO THE CLIFF BAY

Les Suites is connected to The Cliff Bay hotel. The two hotels are comfortably connected by an interior corridor and guests at Les Suites have access to all of the hotel’s iconic services and facilities. Direct access to the sea, salt-water pool, indoor-outdoor pool, spa and restaurants, including the renowned 2-star Il Gallo d´Oro, bars and gardens.
