ComplexCon Day-2

The PUMA Galleria saw sneakerheads excited to check out the 90’s vibes in the Toys, Tech, Tracks and Trophies sections with line ups for the limited RS-X Toys custom sneaker works by JBF Customs and Alexander John inspired by 90s Tech and Mix Tapes respectively. The artists also did live custom designing demos at the courtyard. All pairs were sold out in minutes. PUMA also unveiled the upcoming collaboration pack with Hot Wheels – the RS-X Toys Hot Wheels that release on December 1st.

Special guests Kali Uchis, A Boogie Wit a Hoodie, Yo Gotti and Nipsey Hustle all came out to promote and sign the limited-quantity bootleg tees designed by Chinatown Market. Each tee design were inspired by each artist. YesJulz and her 1AM radio crew continued with their live broadcast from the PUMA Galleria and interviewed the artists mentioned above plus a whole lot more. Also seen were Emory Jones, Upscale Vandal, Karrueche and Victor Cruz, among the many celebrities who dropped by.

To celebrate the launch of Cadillac’s newest vehicle, the XT4, Cadillac & Nas dropped a one-of-a-kind Cadillac crest piece and gold chain filled with yellow diamonds, black diamonds, rubies and sapphires. While Nas was signing custom Cadillac/Nas/Complex Merch he surprised a lucky fan by giving the chain to them, creating a once-in-a-lifetime moment with the most coveted drop at the event.

DJ Akademiks and A Boogie wit da Hoodie battled it out during a live episode taping of “On the Sticks,” the new interactive gaming series from Complex and Xbox. The two played NBA 2K19 with A Boogie wit da Hoodie emerging as the champion. The series launches Friday, November 9 on Complex’s YouTube channel.

Virgil Abloh headlined ComplexCon(versations) to a packed house of 700 fans. He was joined on stage by emerging designers (b).stroy, comprised of Brick Owens & Dieter Grams, as well as Ev Bravado and Rhuigi.

Nas, Big Boy, Jeff Staple and Tinashe stopped by the HBO barbershop experience that was promoting the new series “The Shop.” Capitol Records’ James Davis, Njomza, BJ The Chicago Kid and Marc Byers joined artists Nick Grant and A Boogie wit da Hoodie for panel discussions at the booth.

As part of Adidas Originals main event at ComplexCon, the brand joined forces with creative partner Pusha T to present a journey through three connected environments, reimagining a retro bank vault and penthouse office, to unveil a limited edition EQT Cushion 2 collaboration. Answering the popular demand for more cultural experiences, the mogul sat with 12 aspiring artists from Los Angeles for an opportunity at the adidas Originals Sound Labs Grant for musical development. Only five musicians made the cut after two days of listening sessions and now local LA semi-finalists Sareal, Lorine Chia, Ice Cold Bishop, Indiigo and Rugby Wild will continue the application process for the grant that will result in a winner in the first days of 2019. Also, King Push was joined by adidas Originals partner Pharrell Williams, who released pairs of the elusive adidas Originals N.E.R.D HU NMD and 50 pairs of never-seen-before PW HU P.O.D. System exclusive for the conference. Winners of the Friends and Family HU P.O.D. System pairs got to meet Pharrell as a special treat from the icon and Adidas Originals. And finally, Adidas Originals launched its new Los Angeles-focused social identity @AdidasLA alongside rap legend and creative ambassador Snoop Dogg. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Doggystyle, the brand partnered with Snoop and LA’s World Famous VIP Records for a special pop-up experience. Snoop himself made a special appearance and signed 25 pairs of adidas Originals P.O.D. System sneakers that had been customized by LA artist Gregory Siffs.

Reebok closed out the weekend with its limited-edition Futsal Fusion R58 drop and the final silhouette of the the R58 Series, the Sole Fury Floatride. Lil Baby stopped by in celebration of the drop, purchasing the first ten pairs for lucky customers in line before customizing shirts for his whole crew.

Karen Civil introduced film narrator Pharrell Williams at Universal Pictures’ special screening of THE GRINCH Saturday night ahead of of its upcoming release.

GUESS JEANS U.S.A. x PLACES+FACES debuted at ComplexCon ahead of its global launch. Unique items such as reflective tees, photo-vests, cargo pant and tracksuits were the first to go. J.Balvin, Teyana Taylor, Made in Tyo (Tyoko), Olan Prenatt, Trill Sammy, Christian BULL1TRC, and Premium Pete all stopped by GUESS Jeans U.S.A. to pick up the goods.

Zen, a new e-commerce experience celebrating sneaker culture with a unique blend of commerce, storytelling, community, and events that launched at ComplexCon, gave away to lucky winners hundreds of pairs of rare kicks including Nike Air Mags seen in ‘Back to the Future,’ Undefeated Jordan IV, Nike Dunk SB Low Diamond Supply Co. “Tiffany,” all Supreme Nike SB Blazers and Dunks, and Adidas Chanel Pharrell Hu NMD.

Rolling Loud Festival is one of rap’s premier music festival experiences. The festival was the brainchild of co-founders Tariq Cherif and Matthew Zingler, who began organizing shows in 2010. The two created Rolling Loud Festival in 2015 as a one-day festival for 6,000 attendees. Def Jam Recordings to Release The Hate U Give Official Movie Soundtrack

Def Jam Recordings, the iconic label and global brand synonymous with hip-hop culture, partners with 20th Century Fox on Oct. 12th release of the Official Soundtrack to the highly-anticipated film The Hate U Give.

Def Jam Recordings’ next generation of stars, Arlissa and Bobby Sessions, join an all-star cast cast of contemporary and legendary artists including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Logic, Jadakiss, and Tupac Shakur for the official soundtrack of The Hate U Give.

Arlissa and Bobby Sessions introduce new, previously unreleased songs on the soundtrack, which Variety raves, “cleverly mimics the film’s outlook by oscillating between snatches of 2Pac and modern R&B;” South London-bred, 25 year old siren Arlissa, who appeared in the August issue of Vogue, experienced her first real taste of success with her breakthrough track “Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie.”

Arlissa’s defiant anthem “We Won’t Move” from The Hate U Give soundtrack garnered early buzz at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of T.H.U.G., with Toronto’s NOW exclaiming “the soulful ballad has got ‘Oscar nominee’ written all over it.”

Fiery Dallas rapper Bobby Sessions, who NPR raves, “confronts racism with a captivating flow that’s both acrimonious and awe-inspiring,” and whose debut EP “channels the anger and despair that accompany the cycle is systematic racism” according to XXL, performs the eponymous title tune, “The Hate U Give.”

Shaping up as one of the fall season’s breakout movies, The Hate U Give stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, a teen who is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.  Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. Amandla’s original song “Always” closes out the soundtrack.

The Hate U Give also stars Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith and Sabrina Carpenter, with Common, and Anthony Mackie. The film was directed by George Tillman Jr. (NotoriousMen Of Honor), and produced by Robert Teitel, George Tillman Jr., Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey.  The Hate U Give, whose screenplay was written by Audrey Wells (A Dog’s PurposeUnder The Tuscan Sun), is a Fox 2000 Pictures, State Street Pictures, and Temple Hill Entertainment production, distributed by 20th Century Fox.

“LIT” – Drei Ros, Sy Ari Da Kid, Reo Gragun & Tray Haggerty:

Romanian born music artist Drei Ros has spent years spicing up tracks for artists such as Pusha T, Gucci Mane and Kap G. Today, he added to his already impressive collection of hit collaborations with his latest single “LIT” featuring Sy Ari Da Kid, Reo Cragun and Tray Haggerty.

Drei was additionally recently featured on the Latina trap track “Bomberos” alongside Latino/Urbano duo Los Rakas and produced by DJ duo Breakfast N Vegas. The successful single was featured on Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday Latin’ and ‘Beast Mode’ playlists. Both new singles come in anticipation of Drei’s forthcoming debut album “Excuse My Accent,” produced by by 808 Mafia (who produced tracks for Future, Drake, Migos, Travis Scott, DJ Khaled, etc.). The album, which shows a never-before-heard side of Drei as an artist, is set to release October 2018.

Drei has endured grand success in a short amount of time, leading up to the creation of his debut album. He officially began his career in 2009, teaming up with artists Burre Collins and Dyce Dylli to form the band B.O.S.S. (“building our success story”). His infectious Romanian accent added intrigue to his English raps, and brought quick success to several B.O.S.S. singles – ultimately leading to the curation of the band’s album and a tour of the Pacific Northwest.

Still new to the music industry and experimenting with his sound, Drei teamed up with more artists of different backgrounds to dabble with adding his own creative style to a multitude of genres. He’s since paired up with the likes of Jamaican Reggae legend Junior Reid, Alex Mica, Evelyn, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Pusha T, Krisha, etc. In 2016, Drei’s music video went viral for “Shake Dat Monkey” featuring JBo of the Youngbloodz (and Messiah on the Latin remix), garnering 3.3M+ YouTube views. Continuing his history of successful collabs in 2017, Drei released the singles “Ordinary Day” featuring Pack The Arcade and “I Need You” featuring Marvelus Fame and Bel. At the beginning of 2018, Drei teamed up with J Romero and Kap G to create “Loco” with an accompanying music video, which has already garnered 1.2M+ views on YouTube alone.

Now, Drei is out to show the world his own sound by releasing an album of his original tracks with “Excuse My Accent.” The trap album mixes English and Spanish languages, giving it the edge of an international appeal. With his Romanian roots and the lessons from his many collaborations molded into the foundation of the artist he has become, Drei’s album will have hints of his past creations – but overall be a never-before-heard music brand for fans that fully embodies this musical mastermind of ‘Drei Ros’ as an artist.

On Friday night, DC’s Echostage presented EDM’s favorite Dutch DJ duo Yellow Claw (consisting of Jim Taihuttu and Nils Rondhuis), along with GRLZ, Boogie T, and Moksi. Ranked at #1 in DJ Magazine’s USA list of nightclubs, Echostage proved that it had no troubles selling out tickets with line down a block of crazed fans in rave attire and Yellow Claw gear.

GRLZ, Boogie T, and Moksi filled the two story venue with high energy, bass dropping beats that perfectly transitioned into Yellow Claw’s set.

Yellow Claw had started off with their signature intro song “Untouchable,” with its lyrics shown on the screen demanding the crowds attention. Their set included songs from their latest album New Blood, with a mix of their label Barong Family hits and previous collaborations from artists like Pusha T, DJ Snake, Lil Debbie, Sophie Simmons, Yade Lauren and many more. During the set, they were joined by one of their label artists and earlier performers, Moksi to perform their iconic Moksi Switch Up remixes.

After their performance, the crowd chanted their famous tagline, “Yellow Mother F***** Claw!” and they gladly returned to the stage playing an extra 10 minutes, along with giving their fans a special treat of playing their 2013 major hit, “DJ Turn it Up.”

Being a super fan/Yellow Claw Soldier since 2013, every concert, every mixtape, every album, every collaboration, every piece of merchandise, every documentary, Yellow Claw never ceases to amaze me. Being able to watch them live is to the only way to bow down to The Party Gods. #YMFC

(June 22, 2018 – New York, NY) R&B superstar, dancer/choreographer, actress, model, and Harlem native Teyana Taylor releases her highly anticipated sophomore album, K.T.S.E. today via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Recordings. Produced entirely by Kanye West, the seven-track album is the fifth and final installment in the historic weekly series of G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam releases this month.

K.T.S.E.– Keep That Same Energy – is the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s VII, Teyana’s G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam debut album. VII’s top 10 R&B/Hip-Hop single, “Maybe” featuring Yo Gotti and Pusha T has collected over 16 million YouTube views to date.

K.T.S.E. was unveiled Thursday night at a livestreamed listening event on the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles. Universal’s famed “New York” set was transformed into Taylor’s native Harlem, with street signs pointing to 141 Street and Lenox Avenue, while mock-NYPD cruisers flashed their blue and red lights into the Hollywood night.
