Kyrsten Sinema Wins Arizona’s U.S. Senate Seat

By Reid Urban

Arizona is finally getting its first female U.S. senator.

Democrat Krysten Sinema rode a wave of Maricopa County voters, as well as voters from her opponent Martha McSally’s congressional district in Tucson, to give her the edge and the eventual win for the Arizona U.S. Senate seat that was being vacated by Jeff Flake.

The Associated Press called the race for Sinema Monday night and McSally ceded, tweeting congratulations to Sinema.

Sinema will become the first woman in the state’s 106-year history to take a seat in the U.S. Senate.

So how did Sinema manage to win? She played towards the moderate Republican voters, the independent voters, and the suburban women, who were anxious about the polarizing politics in the era of President Donald Trump. That gave her the advantage in the urban areas of Arizona. It was too great for McSally to make up.

Sinema maintained that lead on Monday and grew even more with the latest batch of early ballots. With that, she defeated the Republicans’ hopes of maintaining the seat.

Axwell /\ Ingrosso feat. RØMANS

Axwell /\ Ingrosso have shared the official video for single Dancing Alone” featuring ROMANS today. The video, created by 21-year-old Swedish director Brokenint, can be viewed HERE.

Brokenint sought to mirror the musical fusion of classic House and Trance music in Dancing Alone” through contrasting visual representations in a raw, warehouse rave space and an idyllic, but nostalgic mid 2000’s Ibiza clubbing experience. Axwell /\ Ingrosso whose songs have racked up a cumulative two billion streams worldwide produced the track, which they co-wrote with Roc Nation signed British singer-songwriter ROMANS. Dancing Alone” has accumulated over 30 million global streams across all platforms.

Offering both a nod to the legacy and a glimpse at the future of electronic music, “Dancing Alone fills the void of the noughties rave trance sound as the duo skillfully combines frenetic synths and driving kick drums. Building upon ROMANSemotive vocals in tandem with a catchy hook, the anthemic track effortlessly dives into a euphoric drop while maintaining Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s characteristic energy. The duo also announces the launch of a new Amazon Alexaskill. Users can ask Alexa questions to hear their favorite Axwell /\ Ingrosso tracks. The Axwell /\ Ingrosso skill is now live in the Amazon store HERE. To start say: “Alexa, Open Axwell Ingrosso Music.”

Next, ask Alexa:

Why is she dancing alone?
Do you love me?
What’s the weather outside?
Where are you?
How are you?
Play me a song to dance to!

Dancing Alone” follows Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s two massive 2017 hits “More Than You Know,” which has been certified multi-Platinum in 16 countries, Gold in four countries and Diamond in two, andDreamer, featuring Trevor Guthrie. The songs are found on the duo’s debut album, More Than You Know. Eight of the album’s 13 tracks have charted in the top 10 of Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. Kandace Springs

“Prince’s protoge spreads her wings on breathtakingly eclectic second album

An accomplished pianist with a sensuous, smoky voice”

MOJO

the soulful pianist and vocalist is self-assured, distinctive and strikingly contemporary.

WALL STREET JOURNAL

Singer and pianist Kandace Springs has released her remarkable second album Indigo (Blue Note), a 13-track LP of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of Kandace’s artistry from smoldering R&B (People Make the World Go Round , 6 8) to gorgeous jazz ballads (Unsophisticated, featuring Roy Hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “Breakdown” and Don’t Need The Real Thing. All but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer Karriem Riggins (Common, Erykah Badu) with additional production by Jamie Hartman (Rag’n’Bone Man), Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, P!nk), and Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken (Rihanna). Indigo is available on vinyl, CD, download, and streaming services.

For Kandace it boils down to a question that connects past to present: “What would Nina Simone do if she had the technology of today? You could never put Nina in a boxߞshe would do a blues followed a classical piece, a jazz standard and then a Beatles cover. This LP took a lot of inspiration from that it’s a mix of everything that I am.” Indigo offers a fairly plausible answer to that impossible query: songs that swirl classical composition with quiet-storm cool, jazz poise with hip-hop swing, tropical warmth with soulful depth, and earthen groove with airy psych.

Given that diverse palette, Karriem was exactly the right person to work with Kandace to catalyze the best parts of various interests into something new. “I love crossing genres and the direction on Indigo was to marry all the different things to tell her story”, says Karriem, who tracked his drums at various studios while on the road with Diana Krall, and chopped and reassembled his and Kandace’s recordings into what you hear. “It sounds organic because everything was built around the songwriting. She says so much on the piano, and her voice is amazing it’s the focal point of the whole sound.”

Prince once said that Kandace “has a voice that could melt snow.” The music icon heard her cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” online in 2014 and invited her to perform with him at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain, becoming a mentor to the young singer and pianist. Kandace’s 2014 self-titled EP turned even more heads and led to performances on Letterman, Kimmel and Fallon, as well as the Afropunk and Bonnaroo festivals. Okay player called her as “a vocal force to be reckoned with” and Afropunk dubbed her “a versatile and vital artist”

Kandace draws much of her musical inspiration from her father, Scat Springs, a respected session singer in Nashville. It was due to him that Kandace grew up surrounded by music, and he encouraged her to take piano lessons after he watched her peck out melodies on the instrument when she was 10. Yet as a girl, she was equally interested in other creative outlets, especially visual art and, more unexpectedly, automobiles. “My dad gave me a Matchbox car, and my mom gave me a Barbie,” she says. “I drew a mustache on the Barbie and never played with it again, and I still have the Matchbox car.” (Her obsession with cars, which she collects, rebuilds, and resells, continues to this day.)

Something deeper in the young musician was sparked when she heard Norah Jonesߣ 2002 Blue Note debut, Come Away With Me. “The last song on the record is ߢThe Nearness of Youߣ and that song really inspired me to learn to play piano and sing. It was just so soulful, simple and stripped down. That really moved me and touched me. It’s when I realized, This is what I wanna do.”

Kandace began gigging around Nashville, and eventually an early demo she recorded caught the ears of Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken, the production team who have written hits for Shakira, Christina Aguilera, and Kelly Clarkson, and are best known for discovering Rihanna as a teen and signing her to their production company SRP. Rogers flew to Nashville with an offer to sign Kandace. Still only 17 years old at the time she and her family decided that it wasn’t the right time to pursue a recording career, instead taking a job at a downtown Nashville hotel where she valet parked cars by day and sang and played piano in the lounge at night.

A few years later, Kandace was talking about going to automotive design school, but her mother suggested that she get back in touch with Rogers and Sturken. She instead moved to New York and started working seriously on new songs and demo recordings. She eventually landed an audition with Blue Note President Don Was at the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles, winning him over with a stunning performance of Bonnie Raitts “I Can’t Make You Love Me” (the original of which he had coincidentally produced).

If you listen closely to Indigo, you’ll hear a nod to Prince in the lyrics of “Fix Me” but the best tribute she could pay to him, Ms. Simone, and the humble legacy of the man who introduced her to music, her father, is by, as Karriem words it, “creating something that adds to the art form.” With Indigo, an album that couldn’t have been made by anyone but her, Kandace Springs does exactly that.

HighSnobiety Premiere: Jack Bruno and Smokepurpp Music Video

Denver-based artist Nick Miller, known professionally as Illenium, has signed to Astralwerks and makes his debut on the renowned dance label with the highly personal single Take You Down. After hearing from many fans about how his music has gotten them through dark periods, he felt compelled to share how music saved his life, too, following a heroin overdose six years ago.

In a letter to fans, posted HERE, Illenium explains, “Take You Down is about my struggles with addiction and what it can do to families and loved ones. It’s more specifically about my mom, and how no matter what, she never gave up on me. To anyone struggling like I did, not just with addiction but anything in life, I hope you guys can find peace in your struggles and know that anything can be overcome. I’ve been clean since that overdose and I owe that to finding my passion and being surrounded by the most loving people I could ever ask for.

Download / stream Take You Down HERE and view the visualizer HERE.

Fresh off a sold-out tour of Australia and New Zealand, Illenium will perform at Lollapalooza tomorrow, August 4. In addition to a full slate of festival performances, including Outside Lands, Bumbershoot, Electric Zoo, Lost Lands, Austin City Limits and EDC Orlando, he will play a sold-out headline show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on August 29. See below for itinerary. Tickets are available at http://illenium.com/tour/.

Reviewing Illenium’s Coachella 2018 performance, Your EDM.com noted, “In the hour long set, Illenium played his heart out to tens of thousands of fans, some of whom were probably only at the festival to see him. Bringing out some deeper cuts as well as all of his newest music from Awake and Ashes, Illenium proceeded to take fans on an absolutely wild ride.

Illenium creates immersive emotional experiences, displaying an adeptness for crafting aural arrangements that vary in style, beauty, complexity and depth. With two full-length albums to his credit and sundry singles and remixes, he has surpassed the one billion stream mark across his discography.

His debut album, Ashes, was released to critical acclaim in early 2016. Awake followed in 2017 and hit #1 on in the iTunes Electronic Dance Charts in 12 countries. Named one of the 10 Best Dance/Electronic Albums of 2017 by Billboard, it included such singles as Feel Good (with Gryffin featuring Daya) and Crawl Outta Love. Praising the album as a gorgeous collection of future bass, piercing vocals, and barefaced lyrics, Dancing Astronaut said, While it might seem premature to call an album a masterpiece, no other title would fit Awake so well. Billboard observed, “The phoenix is Illenium ‘s mascot, and Awake is the emergent moment of that story.

Illenium’s Awake Live headline tour captivated audiences across the country, and sold out such renowned venues as The Shrine, Terminal 5, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Aragon Ballroom and Red Rocks. His remix of Flume’s Say It earned him an Electronic Music Award for Best Remix in 2017. Illenium’s recent collaborations include Don’t Give Up On Me with Kill The Noise ft. Mako and Gold (Stupid Love) with Excision ft. Shallows.

Kailee Morgue US Tour With Poppy

Today Kailee Morgue announces she will be heading on a U.S. fall tour with Poppy for her Am I A Girl? Tour. Artist pre-sale tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 11th at 10am local timeand general on-sale begins Friday, July 13th at 10am local time at www.kaileemorgue.com.

Having just sold out her debut headline shows in New York and Los Angeles, Morgue jumps to theaters by joining Poppy’s fall twenty-date run through North America, including top cities Los Angeles (The Wiltern on October 31st), New York (Irving Plaza on November 20th) and Washington D.C. (9:30 Club on November 24th).

Recently Morgue released “Do You Feel This Way (Feat. Whethan). Check out the track here!

Of the song, Morgue says, “This is one of my favorite songs I’ve made because it is off axis just enough to blur my perspective between haunting and inviting. Teaming up with Whethan brought the perfect blend of hazy lethargy and upbeat skepticism to the track. It captures the unease of that feeling of not knowing how someone truly feels about you, and it still always makes me want to move when I hear it—it’s so fun to perform.”

“Do You Feel This Way” (feat. Whethan) follows Morgue’s single “F**k U”and her 2017 breakout track, “Medusa,” which catapulted her into an overnight success after she posted a live performance of the song on Twitter. “Medusa” became the title track from her debut EP, which was also released last fall and features her hit single, “Discovery.”

Tattooed, multi-color haired and anime-obsessed 19-year-old Phoenix-based gothic pop siren, Kailee Morgue, casts a sonic spell with her music. A self-described “introvert” and the second oldest of six kids, she found solace in the sounds of fellow sonic sorceresses, such as Stevie Nicks and Gwen Stefani, as well as bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and more. By the age of ten, she picked up her first guitar, began quietly penning music and eventually started posting tracks on Soundcloud.

Between a gig at Jack In The Box in 2016, an 18-year-old Morgue found the beat for her breakout track, “Medusa,” on YouTube and cooked up the single. She first teased the track with a brief Twitter video, and it ignited a viral reaction garnering 100,000 “likes” overnight. Over an airy, minimalistic soundscape, Morgue creates a hypnotic and heartfelt melody with haunting and powerful lyrics. “Medusa” peaked at #1 on Hype Machine, was hailed as “Best Track of the Week” by The New York Times, MTV, The Line of Best Fit and Coup de Main and its video premiered on The FADER. As “Medusa” became an underground phenomenon, Morgue inked a deal with Republic Records in the summer of 2017. Further music is set for release this summer.

Paris FW x Haute Couture

During Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture, on Tuesday, July 3,

Maison des Centraliens has hosted three young designers with their Fall- Winter Collections 2018-2019:

ABE by Ariane Chaumeil Jewelry  “Miroir”

There is magic and mystery in a mirror : the reflexion of who looks into it is real, but reversed.  Since we gaze at ourselves, all fantasies become possible and brings us back to face each other, and to what the world has to face. As a two-way mirror, you can see without being seen. Step through and find out with this collection, and the part of your soul using your imagination, whether it is dark or whether radiant…

The fall winter collection of the ABE by Ariane Chaumeil house, whose crafting remains done with the blowtorch glass, becomes richer with a new proposition: the metal paste making. Sculpted and cast, the metal paste is modelled, sanded, fired at high temperature, brushed and rubbed with a burnisher and polished several times in order to get pieces of golden and white bronze, and of pure copper, with a shiny, ancient rendering.

A couture collection by  designer Armine Ohanyan

A couture collection made in France, entirely handmade, intimately inspired by nature, showing the natural elements in all their forms. Ice, crystallization, rain, wind, dew and roots. Crystallized in these surroundings, the Human Being becomes Nature. The Nature is everlasting, nothing can stop it. It is the true beauty, perfection. For depicting this cycle of evolution, Armine Ohanyan uses the new technologies such as 3D printing or materials crafting, which play an important role in her creation process. Her art investigations never end, like the movement that she shows in its different forms and their ranges of colours and materials. Her creations are futuristic, modern, with a wide beauty touch.

Baroqco Jewelry

Designers Imelda and Eduardo aka Baroqco are citizens of the world . Their roots are from Dutch Chinese Indonesian and Portuguese descent, and this diversity is what provides foundation that leads to the inspiration and creation. BaroQco comes from Baroque, an era of change from simplicity to lively and exuberant detail. BaroQco stands alone with its unique grandeur and ability to surprise and to achieve a sense of awe. Imelda and Eduardo started to create jewelry as they were looking for a tiara or crown for their wedding day. At that time there were not a lot of options, so they decided to create their own tiara which lead others to ask whether they could also make necklaces and earrings.

« As we embrace the impressionism, we strive not only for the outer but especially for the inner-beauty. In our creations we want to push boundaries of artistic techniques. And therefore the BaroQco is a book without an End. »

The materials are opal ,gold and Swarovski and all the metalwork are nickel free, the usage of non toxic and – hazardous for plating makes the jewelry more ecofriendly.

NIGOS Release MV for Narcos

Straight off the heels of winning the BET Award as Best Group, superstar multi-platinum hip-hop trio Migos today release the video for their chart-topping song Narcos. This marks Quavo’s directorial debut, with co-direction by Joseph Desrosiers.
WATCH HERE.
Narcos already has more than 153 million streams and was recently performed by the group on Saturday Night Live. Migos take the music on the road this summer on Aubrey and the Three Migos tour with Drake (full dates below).
The GRAMMY-nominated trio of Quavo, Offset and Takeoff released their second consecutive album to land at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart, CULTURE II (Quality Control Music Motown Records / Capitol), in January of 2018. Sunday at the 2018 BET Awards Migos were recognized as the Best Group, the award given to the overall best R&B, hip hop or gospel group who has release an album in the previous or same year. Migos has hit another milestone this year being honored with the ASCAP Vanguard Award from the 31stAnnual ASACAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.
Recently Migos made history by tying The Beatles for the most simultaneous entries on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart among groups (with 14 songs on the chart) according to Nielsen Music. CULTURE II has been streamed over 1 billion times and is RIAA Certified Platinum. Migos is now one of only five rap groups with multiple No. 1 albums. CULTURE II topped the iTunes albums charts in 60 countries and debuted at No. 1 in 62 countries on Apple Music, achieving one of the largest streaming debut weeks in Apple Music’s history.
In a cover story, Rolling Stone said, Migos aren’t big. They’re gigantic. Twenty-six-year-old Offset, his 26-year-old cousin Quavo and Quavo’s 23-year-old nephew Takeoff have transcended hip-hop to become shapers of the culture.
Their blockbuster single MotorSport, featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, earned Double Platinum status in Canada, and RIAA Certified Platinum status in the US. Their second single, Stir Fry, produced by Pharrell Williams, was the official song for NBA’s All-Star weekend. This year alone the group performed on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, graced the covers of Rolling Stone and Complex and was nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

Kirby Chambliss × Hot Air Balloons

Pilot takes to stunning skies to mark National Hot Air Balloon Day in style.

Kirby Chambliss switched chicanes for hot air balloons in a novel and eye-catching display to mark National Hot Air Balloon Day.

Some 99 years after Indianapolis Motor Speedway held its first event, a hot air balloon race, the Red Bull Air Race pilot commemorated the anniversary in some style. Here is all you need to know:

  • The display was put on from his Phoenix, Arizona, home – he has a runway in his back garden – with a series of hot air balloons set up on the ground akin to pylons for him to weave through.
  • The American pilot then took to the skies as the balloons were released and showed some of the aerobatic skills, which have made him one of the world’s leading pilots by swerving in, out and above the balloons.
  • Of the venture, he said: “The reason we did it is because the up-and-coming race in the United States will be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the very first event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a hot air balloon race. Weaving back and forth between the balloons is a bit different than doing that around our pylons because the balloons are quite a bit wider, and you can’t hit the balloons!”
  • Chambliss currently lies eighth in the Red Bull Air Race Championship with a podium finish in the opening round in Abu Dhabi.
  • He will compete on American soil, where he is a two-time race winner, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 6-7 for its round of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
  • The 58-year-old is a two-time world champion in the series having been crowned in both 2004 and 2006. He also boasts 10 race victories.
  • Growing up, he was a motocross rider but always dreamt of being a pilot and, aged 24, became the youngest ever commercial pilot for Southwest Airlines. Four years later, he was a captain. He fuelled aircraft growing up to earn enough money to fly himself.
  • He is married to a fellow pilot, Kellie, and lives on a ranch aptly named Flying Crown Ranch.

Hot Air Balloon Day

In the United States, June 5 is National Hot Air Balloon Day. On this day in 1909, Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) held its first ever event – a hot air balloon race. To commemorate this past milestone, and in anticipation of the upcoming round of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship at IMS on October 6 and 7, pilot Kirby Chambliss decided to incorporate hot air balloons into his training regimen. He took to the skies at dawn above his Phoenix, AZ, home, chicaning through the balloons on the ground, similar to the chicanes he races through in the Red Bull Air Race. Once the balloons were released into the air, Kirby got a bit more creative, performing aerobatics above, around and through the balloons. Chambliss will head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for round 7 of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship on October 6 and 7. Tickets are available at www.redbullairrace.com.
