SNOW PATROL & LATE LATE SHOW

Snow Patrol, currently on a stadium tour of the US with Ed Sheeran, returned to The Late Late Show With James Corden last night, where Gary Lightbody performed a stirring rendition of “What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?” accompanied by Johnny McDaid on piano. During rehearsals, James Corden also joined Lightbody and McDaid for a behind the scenes duet of the song ahead of last night’s show. Snow Patrol are currently supporting Ed Sheeran on his stadium tour of North America. Previously, Snow Patrol announced fourteen dates on their extensive headlining European tour, with stops in cities including Berlin, Munich, Paris, Madrid, and Lisbon. The band have also confirmed headlining dates in the UK and Ireland where the band will perform in Dublin, London, and Belfast (full dates below). AUTOMOBILI PININFARINA ANNOUNCE MAJOR DEAL IN BID TO BECOME WORLD’S MOST SUSTAINABLE LUXURY EV CAR BRAND

The world’s newest car brand confirms new HQin Munich and senior management line up, as well as a €50M partnership deal with Rimac

Automobili Pininfarina has today made a series of major announcements from its new headquarters that will see it strengthen its management team, secure cutting-edge, world-beating electric powertrain technology, and put Formula 1 and Formula E experience in the PF0 hypercar driving seat.

Automobili Pininfarina was announced in Rome in April 2018 as the world’s newest car brand, with an ambition to sustainably develop and produce fully-electric, ultra-luxury cars at the pinnacle of design and desirability. 

The company will offer a range of cars designed and hand-crafted by legendary Italian automotive styling house Pininfarina SpA. The first, an ultra-exclusive, luxury electric hypercar codenamed PF0, will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, with production beginning in 2020. 

Munich has been confirmed as the company’s corporate and operational headquarters, providing access to expertise and engineering networks in arguably the world’s most successful and technologically advanced car market. Munich’sproximity to northern Italy, the home of Pininfarina SpA – who will design and build the PF0 under contract – was also key to CEO Michael Perschke’sselection of it for the global headquarters. 

At a press conference today, CEO Michael Perschkeand special guest Dr. Pawan Goenka, Mahindra & Mahindra Managing Director, also introduced an impressive line up of partners and collaborators –including a unique technical partnership with RimacAutomobili to provide battery and drivetrain expertise, software, and hardware, in a contract worth up to €50m.

As well as the partnership with Rimac, AutomobiliPininfarina also announced Nick Heidfeld as their new Development Driver. With nearly 20 years of top-level motor racing experience to call upon, Nick will be responsible for honing the PF0 vehicle dynamics programme from the beginning of 2019, with a clear personal ambition: to help develop the most enjoyable electric performance car in the world.

Perschke said: “Today marks a significant step for the launch of a range of Pininfarina-branded cars and for PF0, which will be the most powerful Italian-built sports car in history – and the first luxury hypercar to be conceived in Germany. We have developed a sophisticated brief to deliver a ground-breaking all-electric hyper GT car to clients from 2020, and now we are curating the partners and suppliers to deliver this dream. The results will be electrifying for owners of Automobili Pininfarina cars in the future!”

LEGO McLaren 720S arrives at P Zero World

P Zero World,the first Pirelli flagship store in the world, has special news for both car lovers and the young at heart – the much hyped, full-size LEGO® McLaren 720S vehicle has arrived in-store on Santa Monica Boulevard. This is the first time this ‘car-spectacle’ is in Los Angeles, after being launched by McLaren in Goodwood (UK) last year.

As for all the McLaren models, this special one made of little building bricks is also equipped with Pirelli tires. Those who are in the area can stop by the shop to admire this 1:1 scale model of the McLaren 720S, which is on display until Tuesday, October 9th. P Zero World is offering complimentary tire inspections and Italian espressos as well.

Sir Nikolai Hotel and IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar celebrate one year anniversary

A year ago, Hamburg lined up for the grand opening of Sir Nikolai and IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar. Well established in the city’s growing hotel and fine dining scene, Sir Hotels and THE ENTOURAGE GROUP celebrate a successful first year with the presentation of a 7-story high artpiece by acclaimed artist Steve Tepas.

Liran Wizman, owner and founder of Sir Hotels and Yossi Eliyahoo, owner and founder of THE ENTOURAGE GROUP commissioned Los Angeles-based artist Steve Tepas to create an artpiece for one of the building’s inner courtyard’s walls. The eye-catching 250sqm painting is titled “Collective Ascension” and shows nine abstract male faces looking upwards towards one abstract female who is bending down with her eyes closed. Inside each male head, boldly outlined in black on white background, the artist painted black staircases.

I created this piece in reflection of all the many journeys we take in life. We all have the same goal: rising to a higher level,” artist Steve Tepas explains.

The artpiece is visible through the retractable glass ceiling of the patio on the groundfloor, as well as from the hotel rooms facing the courtyard.

Isaac Gracie’s Debut Album

23-year-old London-raised singer-songwriter Isaac Gracie has been finding his feet, working out who he is and discovering what he wants since the industry spotlight fell on him. The fuss was caused by a dusty-sounding, careworn home recording of “Last Words” that was uploaded online without expectation and any anticipation of what was to follow. The voice behind it was completely new to the premise of where writing a great song might lead him. Even now he’d tell you that he’s still slowly working it all out, but this debut collection sounds as fully-realized and confident as any of recent memory. Isaac Gracie is a new British voice, poetic in his placement of words and accomplished in their delivery.

Eric Bana (MUNICH and currently starring in THE FORGIVEN) is set to star opposite Connie Britton (NASHVILLE, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS) in the first season of Bravo Media’s scripted anthology series DIRTY JOHN, based on the articles and breakout true crime podcast of the same name from Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard.  Marking his U.S. television debut, Bana will star as John Meehan, a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies.  The series chronicles the true story of how a romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, denial and manipulation.  DIRTY JOHN is produced by Universal Cable Productions (UCP), in association with Los Angeles Times Studios and Atlas Entertainment, and will be executive produced and written by Alexandra Cunningham (CHANCE, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES). Richard Suckle and Charles Roven will serve as executive producers for Atlas Entertainment; Mark Herzog, Christopher G. Bana was first introduced to American audiences in the title role of Mark “Chopper” Read in the feature film CHOPPER, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and was then released in the U.S. to critical notice after its Australian success. Bana earned awards from the Australian Film Critics Circle and the Australian Film Institute for his portrayal of “Chopper.”

Bana was seen co-starring in Ridley Scott’s BLACK HAWK DOWN as Delta Sgt. First Class “Hoot” Gibson, one of a group of elite US soldiers opposite Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Tom Sizemore. The war epic, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Sony, is based on journalist Mark Bowden’s best-selling account of the 1993 US mission in Mogadishu, Somalia. Shortly thereafter, Eric starred as the title role of Bruce Banner in THE HULK for director Ang Lee and Universal Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics character. He was also featured as Hector the Prince of Troy in Warner Bros.’ TROY, for director Wolfgang Peterson.  The film was based on Homer’s “The Iliad”, and co-starred Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom.  The following year, he starred in Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed MUNICH, about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Bana’s other credits include J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster hit STAR TREK, Judd Apatow’s FUNNY PEOPLE opposite Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill, the action-thriller HANNA with Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett, and LONE SURVIVOR alongside Mark Wahlberg. Ready or Not, Autonomous Cars are Coming: We are well past the point of autonomous vehicles being a fad. With several production cars around the world already coming from the factory with partial automation features, manufacturers, ride sharing companies, and rental car companies are in an all-out race to lead innovation in autonomous vehicle technology. That intense competition will also lead many to take risks.

 

Auto Insurers Betting on Autonomous to Decrease Frequency of Accidents: Auto insurers have already begun factoring the growth of autonomous and semi-autonomous technologies, such as forward collision warning with autobrake, adaptive headlights, and blind spot assist into future claims projections. In general, the industry is betting on autonomous technology to ultimately decrease the frequency of accidents, but not the severity of accidents that do occur.

 

You Are Being Recorded: One of the most interesting implications of the autonomous vehicle movement on the P&C insurance industry is the vast amount of data that is being collected by these technologies. According to a new studyconducted by J.D. Power in collaboration with Miller Canfield and Mcity, nearly three fourths (74%) of consumers say they are willing to share autonomous vehicle data after a collision, potentially giving insurers broad access into the details surrounding a crash and the ability to expand the current telematics offerings they currently have in place, which offer discounts to safer drivers. According to J.D. Power data, these telematics-powered offerings have been associated with high levels of insurance customer satisfaction.

 

 

Lamborghini Huracan

Presented in conjunction with the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the Lamborghini Huracán Peformante Spyder made its North American debut last night at an intimate media unveiling in the heart of New York City.

The inherent design, technology and performance features of the Huracán Performante are as fundamental in the Spyder as they are in the coupé, adding a new dimension of driving pleasure to the supreme experience of the Huracán. The exterior design is sophisticated and razorblade sharp like a race car with the design of the air intakes and splitter giving the impression of incisors and aerodynamic power.

 

The Huracán Performante Spyder, with roof open or closed, is equally a driver’s car in challenging dynamic conditions, as well as an inspiring lifestyle experience. The lightweight, electrohydraulic roof easily opens in just 17 seconds up to speeds of 30 mph for fresh-air exhilaration.

 

The Performante Spyder maintains the aerodynamic prowess of its coupé counterpart. Featuring Lamborghini’s exclusive Forged Composite, it is 77 lbs. lighter than its Spyder sister, the light-weight composite is characterized by a high threshold for extreme force and durability.

 

Performante Spyder features Lamborghini’s patented Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) system, which varies aero load in conditions requiring either high down force or low drag, as well as enabling aero vectoring in high-speed for excellent driving dynamics on track and on road in every condition.

 

The Spyder features an enhanced suspension system; recalibrated ESC; more responsive Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS); permanent four-wheel drive maximizing traction in all situations in conjunction with the ALA system; and revised ANIMA: Lamborghini’s driver- mode system comprising STRADA, SPORT and CORSA, which customizes the set-up of all the car’s dynamic systems.

 

Like the Performante Coupé, the Spyder has a naturally aspirated V10 engine, delivering 640 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. The Huracán Performante Spyder can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph.

 

With 1,306 cars delivered to customers across North America, 2017 marked another record year for Lamborghini sales in North America, with the V10 model Lamborghini Huracán growing by 12 percent from 2,353 to 2,642 units globally. The sales figures have awarded the Huracán range since its launch as the most successful product in the Lamborghini history. This March, Lamborghini hit a production record of 10,000 Huracáns produced in a record four-years, a production milestone for the super car company.

 

Customers will begin taking delivery of the new Huracán Performante Spyder this summer at a suggested retail price
of $308,859 (taxes excluded).

Gold is the goal, and not just in sports: Glashütte Original booked a clear victory on February 15th in this year’s competition for the favour of the public. At the Golden Balance awards ceremony the Senator Excellence Panorama Date took first place in the category for watches priced at up to 10,000 Euros. The Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar picked up 2nd place in the over 25,000 Euro class, and with a 3rd place finish for the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date (category: up to 25,000 Euros) the German watchmaker completed its triple-win, taking a first, second and third spot on the podium – all in a single evening.

Peter Leuschner, Glashütte Original’s brand manager for Germany, proudly accepted the awards at the festive ceremony held at the Monacensia Library in Munich. This year’s 20th edition of the Golden Balance saw the brand extend its successful run once again: for the fourth year in a row now, Glashütte Original was delighted to win a first place. As in previous years, the readers of FOCUS, FOCUS Online and UHREN-MAGAZIN were invited to choose their favourite watches in five price categories. A total of 15,269 participants took advantage of the opportunity to vote during the period from December 18th to January 15th.
