Rolling Loud

Fresh off a massively successful festival in the Bay Area, Rolling Loud heads down I-5 to Los Angeles to host another carnival for the culture. Bringing out hip-hop’s best and brightest to the City of Stars for a nonstop two-day event, Rolling Loud Los Angeles proudly unveils the lineup for its 2018 edition. Headlined by Billboard chart dominators Cardi B and Post Malone, Rolling Loud L.A. gathers an unbeatable variety of artists from across the rap spectrum, from established stars like Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Wiz Khalifa, and Young Thug, to meteoric risers like Gunna, Juice WRLD, Lil Skies and Trippie Redd, to promising newcomers like Flipp Dinero, YBW Melly, wifisfuneral, Yung Bans, and Lil Mosey, to West Coast heroes like Ty Dolla $ign, Tyga, Nipsey Hussle, Shoreline Mafia, Yung Pinch, and Roddy Ricch, plus many others. Occurring on December 14th and 15th at the Banc of California Stadium Grounds in Downtown L.A., Rolling Loud Los Angeles is the perfect opportunity for rap fans to send off the year in style. Growing from a single day Miami-based festival into a global company and the biggest live brand in rap music, Rolling Loud’s success embodies the spirit of Hip-Hop. In September, Rolling Loud founders Matt Zingler & Tariq Cherif hosted Rolling Loud Bay Area 2018. Headlined by turn-up titan Travis Scott and Taylor Gang ringleader Wiz Khalifa, the artist roster for Rolling Loud Bay Area was as star-studded as they come, boasting Hip-Hop heavy hitters like Rae Sremmurd, Pusha T, Gucci Mane, and Kevin Gates, local heroes like E-40, IAMSU!, Kamaiyah, Mozzy, and P-Lo, XXL Freshmen like Trippie Redd, wifisfuneral and BlocBoy JB, and other rapidly rising stars, including Juice WRLD, Lil Baby, Yung Bans, Lil Skies, and Saweetie. Occurring over two days on the grounds of Oakland Coliseum, Rolling Loud Bay Area brought a blast of hyphy local energy that the rap game desperately needs.

Featuring a three day lineup and moving from Bayfront Park to Hard Rock Stadium, Rolling Loud Miami proved that bigger is better in 2018. With over 140 artists performing during an action-packed weekend, Rolling Loud Miami 2018 brought capacity crowds each day to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens earlier this month. Headlined by J. Cole, Travis Scott & Future, Rolling Loud 2018 boasted performances from heavy-hitters like Migos and Lil Uzi Vert, veterans like N*E*R*D, The Diplomats and Juicy J, established names such as Young Thug, Big K.R.I.T., Young Dolph and Rick Ross, and risers like Playboi Carti, Lil Skies, Ski Mask The Slump God, Trippie Redd and many more. Founded by Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, recently the new subject of a feature in the Wall Street Journal, Rolling Loud continues to expand its profile as one of the most successful and valuable festival brands in the music business.

“Rolling Loud — which has rapidly become the most essential annual hip-hop festival — was the fire-hot center of the SoundCloud rap explosion last year” The New York Times

“One of hip-hop’s biggest festivals” The Wall Street Journal

“The country’s premier hip-hop festival” Billboard

The Background:
Rolling Loud Festival is one of rap’s premier music festival experiences. The festival was the brainchild of co-founders Tariq Cherif and Matthew Zingler, who began organizing shows in 2010. The two created Rolling Loud Festival in 2015 as a one-day festival for 6,000 attendees. Three years later, the festival’s Miami chapter has expanded into a three-day event, with the festival expanding worldwide in the coming year.

DREI ROS × “LIT”

“LIT” – Drei Ros, Sy Ari Da Kid, Reo Gragun & Tray Haggerty:

Romanian born music artist Drei Ros has spent years spicing up tracks for artists such as Pusha T, Gucci Mane and Kap G. Today, he added to his already impressive collection of hit collaborations with his latest single “LIT” featuring Sy Ari Da Kid, Reo Cragun and Tray Haggerty.

Drei was additionally recently featured on the Latina trap track “Bomberos” alongside Latino/Urbano duo Los Rakas and produced by DJ duo Breakfast N Vegas. The successful single was featured on Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday Latin’ and ‘Beast Mode’ playlists. Both new singles come in anticipation of Drei’s forthcoming debut album “Excuse My Accent,” produced by by 808 Mafia (who produced tracks for Future, Drake, Migos, Travis Scott, DJ Khaled, etc.). The album, which shows a never-before-heard side of Drei as an artist, is set to release October 2018.

Drei has endured grand success in a short amount of time, leading up to the creation of his debut album. He officially began his career in 2009, teaming up with artists Burre Collins and Dyce Dylli to form the band B.O.S.S. (“building our success story”). His infectious Romanian accent added intrigue to his English raps, and brought quick success to several B.O.S.S. singles – ultimately leading to the curation of the band’s album and a tour of the Pacific Northwest.

Still new to the music industry and experimenting with his sound, Drei teamed up with more artists of different backgrounds to dabble with adding his own creative style to a multitude of genres. He’s since paired up with the likes of Jamaican Reggae legend Junior Reid, Alex Mica, Evelyn, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Pusha T, Krisha, etc. In 2016, Drei’s music video went viral for “Shake Dat Monkey” featuring JBo of the Youngbloodz (and Messiah on the Latin remix), garnering 3.3M+ YouTube views. Continuing his history of successful collabs in 2017, Drei released the singles “Ordinary Day” featuring Pack The Arcade and “I Need You” featuring Marvelus Fame and Bel. At the beginning of 2018, Drei teamed up with J Romero and Kap G to create “Loco” with an accompanying music video, which has already garnered 1.2M+ views on YouTube alone.

Now, Drei is out to show the world his own sound by releasing an album of his original tracks with “Excuse My Accent.” The trap album mixes English and Spanish languages, giving it the edge of an international appeal. With his Romanian roots and the lessons from his many collaborations molded into the foundation of the artist he has become, Drei’s album will have hints of his past creations – but overall be a never-before-heard music brand for fans that fully embodies this musical mastermind of ‘Drei Ros’ as an artist.

New Music from Julia Micheals and Trippie Redd

GRAMMY® Award-nominated and multi-platinum selling artist JULIA MICHAELS returns with a brand new single entitled “Jump” [feat. Trippie Redd] today. Get it HERE (Post & Share) via Republic Records.

The song heralds the arrival of her anxiously awaited full-length debut—coming soon.

The single reteams JULIA with frequent producer Nick Monson and longtime co-writer Justin Tranter. On the track, ethereal production ignites a groundswell of energy as the singer’s breathy verses culminate on a huge hypnotic hook just before Ohio rap maverick Trippie Redd drops an emotive and engaging verse of his own.

Since emerging in 2015, JULIA has transformed pop not only from behind-the-scenes as a songwriter whose credits span everyone from Justin Bieber to Selena Gomez, but in the spotlight as a solo artist. Her rapid rise can be attributed to identifiable honesty in every lyric. Within just a year since arrival, she garnered 2018 GRAMMY® nominations in the categories of “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year” for “Issues. That honesty is also why “Issues” received a triple-platinum certification from the RIAA, cracked 1 billion global streams and consumption of 10 million, became “the top-selling debut single by any artist in 2017, and placed on Variety’s “30 Most Consumed Songs of 2017” as the only solo female contribution. It’s why the industry recognized her with nominations everywhere from American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards and RDMA’s to the MTV VMAS and MTV EMAS.

Extending and expanding her influence, she traffics at the forefront of numerous genres. She lent her voice to Clean Bandit’s international hit “I Miss You,which became her first Top 10 entry on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Dance Songs chart. Right now, she also features on Keith Urban’s latest single “Coming Home” and rising artist Noah Kahan’s single “Hurt Somebody.”  Other collaborations include a duet and writing credits on Shawn Mendes’ upcoming album, songs on Christina Aguilera’s upcoming album, a co-writing credit for Janelle Monàe’s latest “Make Me Feel, and a sample of her vocals on Migos“Gang Gang. Moreover, she’s written on recent albums from P!nk, Maroon 5, and Jesse Ware.

Next up on May 18, she performs “Jump” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! and on the Today Show Summer Concert SeriesJuly 27.

Julia continues to shine on stage as well. Following sold out shows alongside Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan  overseas, she embarks on her first official U.S. tour, joining Maroon 5 for the Red Pill Blues Tour beginning this June (see dates below).

Conversation With Coach K

On April 11th, UMUSIC Experience hosted a Masterclass – a conversation with Hip-Hop cultural icon Coach K, moderated by Spotify’s Artist & Label Marketing Manager Amber Grimes at the historic African-American Morehouse College. The event was held at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center to nearly 400 students.

Watch Here: Event Recap

Grimes asked a series of questions about manifestation, trust, adaptation and continuous progress.

Coach K immediately began dropping gems throughout the conversation. “Everything I do is applied to sports and every team needs a coach?” says the former all-state quarterback
football player and scholarship awarded basketball player Kevin Coach K”. Lee when discussing
his relationship with Quality Control, the label he shares with Pierre Pee Thomas.”

Together they run a record label and recording studio and manage artists Migos, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby,
Trippie Redd and many more.

When Grimes asked Coach K how he instills trust in his artist, he says “I let them dream. We let them be visionaries. We not coming to change anything. We just tighten the loose ends.”Coach K knows a great deal about helping artists become superstars by combining their talent
and work ethic while taking risks.”We built our whole company [by] taking risks! Sometimes you gotta take that risk.” Coach K also added that he focuses heavily on the artists’ brands. “ I also believe in brand-building and luck doesn’t come in brand building.”

Both Atlanta natives, Coach K and Amber Grimes were passionate about bringing this event to the historically black Atlanta University Center.

”I have been wanting to do this event for three years,” says Coach K.

“This is my first time doing something like this.”Coach K hopes he can use his life as masterclass to teach others how to become successful.”

There is no book that can teach you about this business. It’s on-job training. If I can let my story lead somebody’s path, I’m with it,” he says. “The day you come complacent is the day it stops. You have to keep going!”

UMUSIC Experience partnered with Quality Control Music, Motown, Capitol Music Group & Caroline to bring the masterclass to life.

Coach K teaches a Masterclass

Catch Quality Control Record’s Coach K as he heads to Morehouse College Wednesday night to teach a masterclass with students in Atlanta, 7pm EST, followed by a Q&A at 8pm. The event will be livestreamed Wednesday night on Morehouse TV

How does Coach K maintain balance and keep it real while working as   Label Coo, Artist Manager, studio owner, deal broker and – more often than not – Father Figure to Migos, Lil Yachty, Trippie Redd, Lil Baby, Stefflon Don and more?

How did he stick to his vision and create his own blueprint for success in the midst of the chaos of dealing with artists and making their visions a reality?

Join the livestream this Wednesday, 7pm at Morehouse College, an historic African American college and the alma mater of many rhodes scholars and civil leaders, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
