Wine Spectator Announces Winners of 2019 Restaurant Awards

—Dining Destinations Around the World Recognized for their Dedication to Wine

Finding a place to drink great wine around the globe has never been so easy. Wine Spectator has uncorked the winners of the 2019 Restaurant Awardswhich honors the world’s best restaurants for wine. This year, the Restaurant Awards program honors 3,800 dining destinations from all 50 states in the U.S. and 79 countries internationally.

Launched in 1981, the Restaurant Awards are judged on three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award, with 2,447; 1,244; and 100 winners this year in each respective category. Eight of the Grand Award winners—Alfredo Di Roma Mexico in Mexico City, Fiola in Washington, D.C., Griggeler Stuba in Lech am Arlberg in Austria, Mastro’s Steakhouse at the Post Oak Hotel in Houston; Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Downtown Houston; The Pool in New York City, Ristorante Cracco in Milan and Vantre in Paris—are first timers.

“We’re pleased to shine a spotlight on the destinations around the world that show devotion to their wine program, while also creating a comprehensive global dining guide for our readers to enjoy,” said Marvin R. Shanken, Editor and Publisher, Wine Spectator. “Both novice wine lovers and seasoned sommeliers alike actively seek and frequent restaurants with exciting, well-curated wine lists. Bravo to all the 2019 recipients—we raise a glass to you.”

All winners are profiled at Restaurants.WineSpectator.com and in the Restaurant Awards app. The app, available free on the App store, allows iPhone and iPad users to find nearby award-winning restaurants, with maps, plus helpful information about cuisine, wine and pricing.

The Award of Excellence recognizes restaurants whose wine lists feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers. Best of Award of Excellence recipients offer more extensive selections with significant vintage depth and excellent breadth across multiple regions.

The Grand Award is the program’s highest honor. This elite group comprises the world’s best wine programs, which deliver serious breadth of top producers, outstanding depth in mature vantages, excellent harmony with the menu and superior presentation. Wine Spectator carefully assesses each Grand Award candidate, including rigorous independent, on-site inspections of the wine program, cellar, service, ambiance and cuisine of the restaurant.

Mexico City's Ignacia Guest House, 360 MAGAZINE

Ignacia Guest House Has New Additions

Consistently ranked among the world’s top places to visit, Mexico City is a global capital welcoming more than 12.5 million visitors each year with  its renowned cuisine, vibrant culture, rich history, unique neighborhoods and modern-day travel offerings. A sprawling metropolis bursting with a vibrant personality  blending  old and new, there are over a dozen distinct neighborhoods or “colonias” each with their own character and charm.

An essential part of the city’s cultural and gastronomic life, the adjacent Roma and Condesa neighborhoods are home to Mexico City’s trendy creative class. The area overflows with diverse dining options and alluring nightlife possibilities, as well as varying architectural styles and bold design. A century ago, when La Romita was a wealthy town of grand mansions, no one would have guessed that by the turn of the millennium, it would home to Mexico City’s  hipsters. These days, its neoclassic, beaux arts and art nouveau-style buildings, squares and tree-lined boulevards abound with restaurants, galleries, bars, foodies, artists, eclectic bed and breakfasts and more. In September 2017 an earthquake impacted Roma and Condesa, Mexico City’s most beloved colonias. After, local artists, architects, designers, chefs and residents have worked to restore and revitalize the area, making them more compelling destinations than ever before.

With the recent buzz from this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Director, Alfonso Cuaron’s love story to his hometown of Colonia Roma hit center stage in the internationally acclaimed movie, Roma. Located just a few blocks from the house where Roma was filmed, Ignacia Guest House is an exclusive bed and breakfast with five suites blending history, Mexican artisan tradition and contemporary design. Opening its doors in February 2017, the name is derived from the housekeeper who looked after this 1913 casona for over 70 years, Ignacia.

To celebrate the recent two-year anniversary of its opening, Ignacia Guest House collaborated with prominent illustrator Hilda Palafox, known as “Poni” to design the guest house’s commemorative anniversary tote bags. Born and raised in Mexico City, Poni is a world-renowned designer, illustrator and muralist whose creative work includes murals, illustrations, drawings and ceramics. She studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts and has illustrated for magazines, singers and several national and international brands. Passionate about the female form, Poni uses illustrations and ceramic works to create a variety of womanly characters in her own unique style. Despite being commissioned for murals by Amnesty International, her most famous work is a doodle which pays homage to Mexican activist and feminist Elvia Carrillo Puerto which was featured on Google’s search homepage in 2017. These beautiful signature tote bags designed exclusively for Ignacia Guest House by Poni can be purchased for $25USD at the front desk. In other news, Ignacia Guest House now offers luxurious robes for all guests to adorn during their stay and a new summer mezcal cocktail to be enjoyed during their daily complimentary cocktail hour in the garden.

Architecture and Design

Ignacia Guest House has been internationally acclaimed for its interior design, architecture and restoration. Led by Fermin Espinosa and Gerardo Salinas of Mexico City-based Factor Eficiencia, with the design firm Estudio de Interiorismo A-G, Ignacia Guest House was developed based on a concept from the design and communications firm, Fuckin’Fitz & Co. The concept reflected the personality and background of Ignacia, from the chromatic color palette and gardens inspired by the forests of Guerrero (Ignacia’s home state) to the privacy of each space. The historic building joins public spaces, including the lobby, reception, library, dining room, and kitchen, directly to the master suite, La Habitación Negra. In a completely new building, the other four suites, La Azul, La Verde, La Rosa and La Amarilla, are arranged one on top of the other on the central patio with individual balconies or terraces. Each has a unique color scheme, and rooms have their own specific ambience that works in harmony with the complex. The interior furniture blends traditional, past and contemporary, including designs by Eileen Grey, Eero Saarinen, Serge Mouille, Sean Dix, and James Tan. The spaces complement each other with examples of contemporary design by A-G, Bo Concept, PECA, and Jonathan Adler. All common spaces boast works from master artisan potter José Cervantes of San Agustín Oapan, Guerrero.

History

Ignacia was born around 1914 in Guerrero and arrived in Mexico City in the late 1920s to work in the estate house. She first helped with the cleaning, then began caring for the children, eventually becoming the head housekeeper until the year 2000, at which time she moved with the family that she worked for so many years to an apartment in the south part of the city. For 70 years, she dedicated her devotion to the house, and became part of it. Her imprint is still alive in the building; as a character of Pita Amor, Ignacia enjoyed the house as her own and in the end, practically it was – she knew every last corner and administered to it with rigorous discipline. She planted two orange trees in the garden that she crossed thousands of times.

Cuisine

The cooks at Ignacia Guest House hit the pantry bright and early to prepare each day’s breakfast selection and source all ingredients at traditional neighborhood markets. They prepare everything—salsas, condiments—from scratch. Artisanal breads, delicious fruits and juices one can only find in Mexico complement cooked-to-order entrees ranging from seasoned eggs, regional charcuteries, tamales and chilaquiles to lesser-discovered tastes guests will remember long after their travel ends. The cooks offer vegetarian and vegan options for all their breakfast dishes and can accommodate guest’s dietary restrictions. Guests can enjoy the complimentary cocktail hour at Ignacia’s garden, under the two orange trees, between 5pm and 7pm daily. Each day, the chef prepares a different cocktail for guests, made with mezcal from Oaxaca, gin, tequila or other liquors. Ignacia’s signature cocktail is made with grapefruit, sparkling water, mezcal and a hint of Ancho Reyes, a liquor made from the ancho chile. The decoration of the glass has a special touch – chefs add worm salt frosting on one side of the glass along with fresh grapefruit. Celebrating the onset of summer, their newest drink is a mango and mezcal cocktail made with mango and pomelo juices, Eureka lemon, mezcal, Ancho Reyes liquor, mint and rosemary syrup, ginger ale and ice.

Sustainability

Ignacia Guest House is committed to preserving our environment. Solar panels produce most of the electrical energy consumed on property, preventing 3.8 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year (the equivalent of planting 85 trees per year). The solar panels reduce fossil fuel consumption up to 60% in bathrooms and the kitchen. The ingredients used to prepare food and beverages (fruits, vegetables, legumes, coffee, eggs, dairy, tortillas, bread) come from small local producers, which guarantees their freshness and quality, as well as fair trade (supporting the local community). In-suite toiletries are provided by Loredana, a Mexican company that specializes in natural, organic products free of parabens, sulfates and EDTA, which are all environmentally friendly and made free of animal cruelty. Water bottles are provided courtesy of Casa del Agua, a Mexican company that triple-filters water using evaporation and condensation, which provides the highest purification standard (100%) in the market. Additionally, water is harmonized with intention, through a process of flow forms, light and, music. Only glass bottles are used, so the property does not contribute to plastic waste. The cleaning products used are sourced from Corpo Citrik, a Mexican company that manufactures all its products with biodegradable citric extracts, without chemicals, abrasives or irritants, Kosher certified and as low foam to promote saving water saving.

One of the biggest trends in travel right now is boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts that feel like a home-away-from-home. Globetrotters are seeking personalized service that go beyond the usual hotel concierge and find that properties with ten rooms or fewer allow them to really slip into local life with total tranquility and ease. With its unique offering of just five suites, Ignacia Guest House’s guests experience a stay in a chic design-led accommodation that is unlike any other. Whether traveling for pleasure or business, Ignacia Guest House is the perfect basecamp to explore the city. All guests receive exceptional individualized attention from the staff, complimentary Wi-Fi, daily breakfast, daily cocktail hour in the garden from 5pm – 7pm and more amenities. Nightly rates for the suites in double occupancy are: Master Suite Negra ($442.10USD), Standard Suites Amarilla, Verde and Azul ($387.94USD) and Junior Suite Rosa ($318.91USD). Paola Hernandez Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019

By Bob Cal

The performers transitioned gracefully through dozens of choreographed formations like moving architecture, all styled in Paola Hernandez’s latest collection. For their Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the Paola Hernandez fashion label decided to tell their story through an impressive two-hour modern dance performance, innovatively marketing all the goods of their latest designs. The dancers from the Elisa Monte Dance company showed the practically of Paola Hernandez through motion and the brand’s message of inclusivity through the diversity of shapes and sizes.

Practically and urban minimalism were major highlights from Paola Hernandez’s fashion instillation; the models looked nothing less than sharp wearing jeans, detailed white sweaters, knit black sweaters, large cardigans, unique black dresses, tights, jumpers and blouses. The quality of fabric and fabric details seemed to be a major emphasis. The color pallet consisted of all neutral colors like black, grey and white; sometimes simplicity, when done with chic flair, can be a cheeky fashion statement.

Born in Mexico City, Paola Hernandez now manages her fashion line in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to studying fashion at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, Hernandez studied philosophy, an educational background she uses as inspiration for her symbolic and contemporary fashion brand.

Pirelli Leads in Original Run Flat Equipment

Pirelli has underlined its status as the preferred brand for premium and prestige car makers, proven by over 500 homologations for Run Flat tires. This is technology that allows drivers to keep going even with a puncture, so that they can reach their nearest tire dealer to change the tire. In total, there are 516 homologations of Pirelli Run Flat tires: in other words tires that have been chosen by manufacturers as original equipment for their new cars. These include 326 summer tire, 100 winter tire, and 90 all-season tire homologations. As a result, Pirelli now has more than 2800 manufacturer homologations for its product range.

Alfa Romeo is the latest marque to have homologated Pirelli Run Flat tires on its Giulia sedan. Manufacturers such as BMW, Cadillac, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes, Mini and Rolls-Royce also use Pirelli tires that can keep going after a puncture. Even when a tire pressure monitoring system indicates a sudden loss of pressure, these tires are able to carry on driving for 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50mph. The specially-designed tire sidewall structure is capable of supporting the weight of the car, ensuring a safe journey to the nearest tire dealer. Pirelli’s bespoke Self Supporting system uses special reinforcements inserted into the sides of the internal structure that are able to withstand both the vertical and horizontal loads on the car.

Pirelli’s Run Flat technology is available on P Zero, Cinturato, Scorpion and Scorpion Winter, Winter Sottozero 3 and Winter Sottozero Serie II. Consequently, the range is able to cover 97% of fitments in 18-inch size or higher, with 24 exclusive product codes: which are sizes that no other tire manufacturer sells. Pirelli is the leader in the Run Flat sector, both when it comes to summer and all-season tires as well as winter.

Run Flat technology responds to the demands of prestige and premium car manufacturers for a level of personalization precisely tailored to the technical characteristics of their vehicles. Throughout the development process, which takes two or three years, Pirelli’s engineers work hand in hand with their counterparts at each manufacturer to create specific tires that are distinguished by a special marking on the sidewall. For each manufacturer, there is a bespoke tire – which is at the very heart of Pirelli’s perfect fit strategy.

Pirelli Celebrates 63rd Annual Porsche Parade

PIRELLI CELEBRATES THE 63RD ANNUAL PORSCHE PARADE

AND ITS LONG STANDING COMMITMENT TO PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA
Pirelli is proud to continue supporting the Porsche Club of America following the PCA Werks Reunion in Amelia Island earlier this year. Now, Pirelli has headed to the historic Porsche Parade in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. As part of its sponsorship with PCA, Pirelli kicked off festivities by hosting the Pirelli Welcome Dinner last night at the Hidden Lakes Golf Course, which is the most attended event during the weeklong program from July 8-14.

Pirelli, the world leader in the prestige tire category, develops and produces bespoke tires for both classic and contemporary Porsches: the state of the art P Zero and P Zero Trofeo tire cover the most performance oriented, while Pirelli’s Collezione in vintage sizes covers the needs of classic Porsches.

And these are the very tires that will star on the Pirelli stand at the Porsche Parade. Porsche Club members will be able to rely on the support of Pirelli technicians, who will be on hand all day to supply in-depth advice and information about Pirelli products available in America.

“Pirelli’s involvement with this historic Porsche Parade event in the US speaks volumes to our appreciation for the Porsche marque and Porsche Club of America, the biggest Porsche club in the world,” said Marco Crola, CEO of Pirelli Tire North America. “This is a natural extension of our commitment at the OE level, where we have worked tirelessly with Porsche over the years to create special N marked tires (263 homologations in fact), tailor-made specifically to be the perfect fit for Porsche vehicles. Therefore supporting PCA is paramount for us, given we share the same enthusiasm for the world’s finest automobile design and experiences as PCA’s member base. It will be great to connect even further with this community through our activities here and communicate our latest offering, from Pirelli Collezione through to P Zero and Trofeo R tires,” Crola added.

Porsche Parade is Porsche Club of America’s signature annual event, hosting its club members from all over North America for an ‘extravaganza’ of activities and competitive events (such as the Parade Concours D’Elegance), including seminars, tours and social gatherings– all aimed at socializing and enjoying Porsches.

This year’s Porsche Parade is being held at Tan-Tar-A resort in the idyllic Lake of the Ozarks, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world and the largest in the US. For more information on the Porsche Parade visit Pirelli or the official Porsche Parade website.

PIRELLI AT 2018 PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB

PIRELLI CELEBRATES RECORDS AND VICTORIES ON BOTH FOUR AND TWO WHEELS

AT 2018 PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB

New Acura and Bentley records and the third best time in history by Simone Faggioli all achieved with Pirelli tires

June 28th2018ThePikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most esteemed motorsports events of the year. And as a leader in motorsports on both two and four wheels, Pirelli was of course present at this year’s event over the weekend, achieving success in both fields in the unique race up Pikes Peak hill in Colorado, which is the highest summit in the Southern front of the Rocky Mountains.

Rhys Millen(Bentley) set a new Pikes Peak SUV record time of 10:49.902 in the 2018 Bentley Bentayga, equipped withPirelli P Zero™road tires.

On Pirelli P Zero slick tiresAcuraachieved three new course records and three podium finishes as follows:

·PPC-Pikes Peak Open Class CourseRecordby Peter Cunningham in a 2018 Acura TLX GT: 9:27.352

·Hybrid Powertrain Course Recordby James Robinson in a 2017 Acura NSX: 10:02.448

·Front Wheel Drive Course Recordby Nick Robinson in a 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec: 10:48.094

The same P Zero slicks were used bySimone Faggiolito set a time of 8:37.230 in a 2018 Norma M20 SF PKP: this was the third best time ever with a combustion engine recorded in the history of the Pikes Peak event, which has been running since 1916. And this was the top overall time with a combustion engine at this year’s event.

Pikes Peak, the second oldest annual motorsports race in the United States, was also the occasion for Pirelli to present its completely renovatedPirelli Hillclimbrubber range. It includes a wet tire, a Cinturato, and three slick tires: Ultrasoft, Supersoft and Soft. And this really was the ultimate combination used by drivers utilizing Pirelli to take home their respective successes at Pikes Peak.

Also known as the ‘The Race to the Clouds’, Pikes Peak represents a very important technical challenge for the tires above all.

“The biggest challenge tires face is from the vast temperature changes participants experience during the course of the race at different elevations. At the start of the race, the average temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit, while at the top of the hillclimb it can be 32 degrees Fahrenheit or it can snow at the highest point (14,110 feet), like it did for the race on Sunday. Another difficulty comes from the bumpy asphalt, in part due to the tracks created from clearing the snow which can ruin it. Therefore it is necessary to develop a tire which guarantees grip both in high temperatures at the start and in lower temperatures as the drivers ascend the hill; as well as maximum driveability on uneven asphalt. And, considering the new records and success this year, this is exactly what Pirelli tires have done,” said Terenzio Testoni, Pirelli Off road Activity Manager.

Moving onto two wheels, Pirelli also attained the following results: a clean sweep of the Heavyweight Class on Pirelli tires, withCarlin Dunne(Ducati) in first place, thenRennie Scaysbrook(KTM) andCodie Vahsholtz(Ducati) in second and third on the podium respectively; plus a new Middleweight Class record by Chris Fillmore (KTM), who smashed the record by more than 30 seconds with a time of 10:04.38 to take the title on the iconicPirelli DIABLO™ SUPERBIKE(SC1 front, SC0 rear) tires.

The tire was donated yesterday by Pirelli to the Italian Ambassador in the US, Mr. Armando Varricchio.

In a number of countries across the world, Pirelli has marked the celebration of Italy’s national day through its product and brand presence. The tri-colored tires will be also fitted on certain Italian embassy vehicles in Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In the Italian diplomatic offices of these countries – as well as Paris, Ankara, Tokyo, Mexico City, Brasilia, Buenos Aires and the “Farnesina”  (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Rome) – a “Tri-color” tire will be on display from 2nd June.

Thanks to its experience in F1® competitions, Pirelli applies colors to road tires with the Pirelli Color Edition, not only embodying made-to-measure performance but also style and design; emphasizing their sporty, unique character. These colored tires use an innovative technology at the Pirelli plant in Bollate, which is located just outside of Milan.
