Mat Kerekes Releases Album “Ruby”

Toledo, OH singer-songwriter Mat Kerekes has released his new album Ruby, via Black Cement Records. The album is available digitally HERE and physically HERE starting today.

Best known as lead vocalist of celebrated alt rock band Citizen, Kerekes presents his softer side and showcases his versatility as a singer-songwriter on his new solo material. Incorporating elements of pop and alternative, Ruby boasts massive choruses, dynamic arrangements, and infectious melodies.

Kerekes began writing and demoing Ruby at home with no particular goal in mind besides self-expression. However once longtime collaborator Will Yip heard the demos, he asked that Kerekes consider releasing them on his newly formed Elektra Music Group sub-label Black Cement Records. Kerekes tracked most of the instruments himself, and produced and engineered Ruby in a studio that he built with his brother in his garage.

Since I recorded and produced the album myself, without having anyone talking in my ear, it honestly makes me feel more personally attached to it. It feels like mine,” shared Kerekes.

Ruby follows 2016’s Luna & The Wilde Blue Everything as Kerekes’ fourth solo album. Kerekes began unveiling songs from the album late last year with the release of title track “Ruby”. In February, he shared the album’s anthemic second single “Diamonds”. Kerekes collaborated with director Johnny Chew on music videos for both tracks, and is expected to release an additional music video for “Hawthorne” in the coming weeks.

Last month, Kerekes wrapped a headline tour that saw him debut songs from Ruby to sold-out rooms across North America. This evening, he will celebrate the release of the album with a hometown in-store performance at Toledo, OH’s Culture Clash Records. Upcoming live dates and ticket information can be found HERE

Daydream Masi Drops “Nightlife”

Daydream Masi drops new track, “Nightlife” as part of his new forthcoming project with Interscope Records.

Newcomer and Ohio naJve, Daydream Masi, is increasingly favored for his sensiJve electronic, soul and hip hop-influenced sound. The newest signee to Interscope Records became known for breakout tracks “Marguerite” and “Eucalyptus Tree” which have received 443K and 250K listens, respecJvely on Soundcloud.

In “Nightlight”, Masi croons “But I know that I got you and I know I got some work to do,” over a high- energy variety of beats. Masi conJnues to sing his soulful, emoJonal lyrics, “I’m in hell without you,” with a complex and tropical producJon aiming to be this summer’s passionate, yet energeJc ballad.

He is set forth to release his new project, “Slow Rage”.

Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler “You Were Good To Me”

Today, singers, songwriters and producers Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler team up to release their new single, “you were good to me,” out now via Republic Records. The song also arrives with the video—watch it HERE!

LISTEN TO “you were good to me” HERE!

Of “you were good to me,” Chelsea says, “Jeremy and I stayed in a cabin in Connecticut last year where we wrote our song ‘better off.’ That trip inspired some of our best writing, so we decided to go back a year later. ‘you were good to me’ is the first song we wrote up there and showcases, to me at least, how well we bring out the most honest artistry in each other.”

Jeremy chimes in, saying, “The cabin was basically a recording studio built in an old carriage house. The walls were lined with vintage guitars, keyboards, drums, and loads of random items that we ended up putting in our song. In between writing sessions, we would hike, watch movies, or just talk about life. The music really represents how we felt at that cabin: inspired, wholesome, and introspective.”

Recently finishing his sold out European and UK
anything, anywhere Tour and her sold out North American Sleeping With Roses II Tour, fans can expect more new music from Jeremy and Chelsea this year.

When
Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler joined forces for “you were good to me,” it was much more than two rising stars combining their natural-born talents; it was two friends sharing their personal conversations (set to music) with the rest of the world. Over the past few years, Zucker has galvanized a dedicated fan base with his early independently-released EPs and continued with his breakout singles “talk is overrated” ft. blackbear in 2017 and “all the kids are depressed” in 2018. He’s continued his upward mobility by outdoing himself with “comethru,” which has reached a staggering 80 million Spotify streams and 35 million video views. Meanwhile, Cutler has become a force, starting with a series of covers on Soundcloud that gave way to her own self-written and self-produced work, like 2017’s “Your Shirt,” which cracked the Spotify charts with over 62 million streams, and her two-part Sleeping With Roses mixtape series in 2018. Both artists have been paving the way in their respective lanes; however, their union was serendipitous, happening in 2016 at a college neither of them attended: The University of Connecticut. Fast forward three years and two signings with Republic Records, there was no better time to make music together. Returning to a cabin in Connecticut where they first collaborated on their duet single “better off,” Zucker and Cutler wrote and recorded “you were good to me,” a reflective piece on lost love.

Marie Hagerty + Peter Vandermark

Olsen Gruin is pleased to present dual solo exhibitions featuring works by Australian artists Marie Hagerty and Peter Vandermark. The exhibitions will be opened with an introduction by Dr. Anne Summers. Hagerty’s collection, titled The Edge, comprises large acrylic and oil paintings. Her works bend the surface of the canvas by creating space where there is none and thereby superseding the canvas itself. At first glance, the viewer is transfixed by oblong configurations of reds, blues, browns, and greys that are implicated in a two-dimensional landscape of organic configured movement. Further concentration reveals plane upon plane of depth within the painting. Through a mastering of contour and shadow, Hagerty creates a multi-planar world the viewer can nearly jump into.

Peter Vandermark’s series of works on display includes 10 geometric, sculptural imaginings of humanity’s interaction with space and the built environment. This group of abstract three-dimensional works is composed of timber along with painted and mirrored acrylic. Stemming from a commentary on the modernist desire to integrate both life and art, these geometric and reflective pieces render a unique spatial experience for the viewer. For Vandermark, the relationship between the work and viewer is a private and intimate experience. Simultaneously, Vandermark’s sculptures are models of architectural landscapes; creating an abstracted and interior landscape of wanderlust. In a designed and curated modern world, Vandermark’s work analyses the evolution of humanity’s interaction with scale, dimensions and textures of inhabitation.

Marie Hagerty (b. 1964) is a Sydney born artist who shifted to Canberra about 30 years ago and has been working primarily as a painter. Hagerty has a very effective and curiously unusual hybrid approach, both in her techniques of painting, employing traditional oils and modern acrylic, as well as in her conceptual framework. She seamlessly combines within a non-figurative composition seemingly figurative elements realized within a high degree of verisimilitude to surfaces and textures. Above all, her paintings display a high degree of visual intelligence in their subtle play of push and pull optics across the sensuous rolling surface. In recent years her paintings have been included in curated and invitational exhibitions at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Ian Potter Museum of Art in Melbourne, the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane and the Canberra Museum. Hagerty is represented by Olsen Gallery in Sydney and Karen Woodbury Gallery in Melbourne.

Peter Vandermark (b. 1960) is a Melbourne born artist interested in the evolution of humanity’s interaction with an increasingly artificial and curated world. “It is one of Vandermark’s strengths as a sculptor that he absorbs and explores the entirety of the designed three-dimensional world, rather than only having a dialogue with the past fine art sculpture. His interests are in the domestic, the urban, the architectural, the mechanical, the semiotic (signs and signage), and even the way in which spoken language can manifest as a ‘solid’ which impacts upon the world.”

50 Years of the Museum at FIT

Based on a selection of 33 major exhibitions which have consistently pushed beyond the obvious popular appeal of fashion and emphasised its cultural significance, this book is an in-depth introspection into “the most fashionable museum in New York City”, ie. MFIT (the Museum of Fashion Institute of Technology).

Edited by Valerie Steele, one of the foremost fashion historians and curators, Exhibitionism highlights the most influential exhibitions held at MFIT including: Fashion and Surrealism in 1987 on the relationship between art and fashion; The Corset in 2000 which was an exploration of the most controversial garment in fashion history; A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk (2013); Fairy Tale Fashion in 2016, a study into the enchanted and emblematic objects as the glass slipper and the red riding hood; Black Fashion Designers (2017).

Each exhibition included in the book is illustrated using installation photos, images of individual garments, and texts that explain the exhibitions’ concepts, scope and influence as well as the objects it featured. Exhibitionism also includes essays about the importance of fashion education at MFIT, highlights the role of hands-on, object- based learning and the inclusivity of minority, or even marginalised, groups.

Furthermore, each author provides an engaging “behind the scenes” look at the process of exhibition making and MFIT’s historic commitment to Fashion.

Waam x FashionTV

2018 was the year where the issue of users’ privacy took the central stage. With the enactment of GDPR and the congressional hearing of Facebook’s Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, the issue of users’ ownership rights over their data was brought firmly into the public spotlight. Now with the start of a new year, it’s time for a change.

WAAM, a decentralized e-commerce blockchain platform, made it its mission to return data ownership rights back to their original owners- the users. On WAAM, users have the right to choose whether to share their personal data or part of it, for rewards or keep it private. By connecting retailers, apps, and users, in a consensual and direct manner, WAAM makes sure that all the players in its economy have something to gain, making it into a real win-win for all.

WAAM formed a strategic partnership with FashionTV, the international fashion and lifestyle broadcasting station, reaching over 1 billion people across the globe. FashionTV is planned to embed the WAAM protocol across its channels, making the WAAM token an officially acceptable currency.

WAAM will be making its first leap into the e-commerce sphere through the fashion industry, the largest e-commerce vertical, with over 500 million USD in sales in 2018 alone. This goal will be further strengthened by the partnership with FashionTV, helping to make WAAM a household name, furthering its exposure through FashionTV’s close connections with thousands of celebrities and brands.

Another party to benefit from the partnership is inFASH, a social network for fashion lovers and the first app to have embraced the WAAM protocol. inFASH and WAAM established their partnership back in early 2018 and have been working together to increase the synergy between blockchain technology and fashion ever since. Operating on the WAAM platform will allow both inFASH and FashionTV to collaborate, providing inFASH with access to a mass audience of fashion enthusiasts, while FashionTV’s users will be able to benefit from a social platform on which they can both earn money from sharing their fabulous fashion sense as well as a better shopping experience complemented with special sales and discounts.

At its core the WAAM platform is designed to help create synergies and collaborations between different partners, whether it is by helping retailers directly connect with potential customers, or by helping apps to collaborate with one another, as is the case with inFASH and FashionTV, the motivation to create a solution that benefits all are the fuel that makes the platform successful and sustainable.
