Alexander 23 Releases “Mars”

Chicago-raised, rising pop artist, Alexander 23 releases his latest track, “Mars” today on Interscope Records. On the moody, self-produced song, Alexander sings about  a difficult relationship, “I tried to give you the world, but you wanted mars too.” Watch the lyric video HERE.

“’Mars’ is about feeling like no matter what you do for someone, it could never be enough” – Alexander 23

Alexander 23 is singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who is quickly paving his own path in the pop sphere. Earlier this year he released his debut song “Dirty AF1s” which premiered as Apple Music’s “Bop of The Week” and was also included on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist. Currently the song has amassed over four million streams across all platforms. Shortly after he released “When I Die,” which focuses on self-reflection and ultimately being the best version of yourself. The track led Lyrical Lemonade to recognize Alexander’s songwriting, narrative, and overall sound, calling it “one of the best songs [they have] heard in recent memory.” Additionally, Alexander recently hit the stage with 5 Seconds of Summer and less than a month ago wrapped out a sold-out North American tour opening up for Alec Benjamin.

Alexander will continue to push out new music and will hit the stage at Lollapalooza in his hometown, Chicago, on August 1.

The band’s co-vocalist Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdóttir has taken center stage on the song not only as the lead vocalist, but also wrote the track as well. The song was co-produced by OMAM and Rich Costey (MUSE, Vampire Weekend, Chvrches). This is the first release from the band since their sophomore album “Beneath The Skin” in 2015.”

On the empowering anthem and what is coming next for the band they noted, “We are so excited about Alligator, the first release from our upcoming album. The song very much speaks to the excitement and energy that we feel about being back. We can’t wait to share more music and see everyone again.”

Earlier this week the band teased fans with footage of the band in studio leading up to the release of “Alligator.” See the teaser footage on the band’s Instagram here: www.instagram.com/ofmonstersandmen

Look out for more news from Of Monsters and Men soon…

OF MONSTERS AND MEN went from the talk of Iceland to the top of the global conversation on their 2011 debut, My Head Is An Animal. Not only did the record go platinum, but it also produced an international smash in the form of “Little Talks.” The breakthrough single earned a quintuple-platinum certification from the RIAA, made history as “the first song by an Icelandic band to cross 1 billion streams on Spotify,” and landed the band a performance on Saturday Night Live. The group appeared on official soundtracks for franchises such as The Hunger Games, The Walking Dead, and Beat Bugs, to name a few. In addition to performing at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Firefly, and beyond, they supported Florence + the Machine on a high-profile arena tour. In the midst of this rapid rise, 2015’s Beneath The Skin bowed in the Top 3 of the Billboard Top 200 and the band starred in an episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones in the same year.

“Valee is changing the sound of hip-hop in 2018, one unpredictable verse at a time.”RollingStone

Valee’s innovative style makes it impossible to predict what might come next.”Pitchfork

“Valee doesn’t sound like anything happening in Chicago hip-hop right now.” – Noisey

ABOUT VALEE:
In an era when aspiring public figures broadcast constantly in an effort to maximize their brand value, Valee’s coolly laconic stands apart. With short songs and a soft-spoken style, his unpredictable raps sketch subjects with a droll eye for detail over a bass-heavy canvas. This is trap music for the connoisseur, for fans of clever lyrics and effortless style. Valee grew up on Chicago’s South Side. When he received toys as a child, he would break them apart to figure out how they worked, a method he applies to his own process with music today:  “Sometimes I rap and cut and copy and paste and move parts around and it changes the whole song, for the better.” His music career began when, intent on buying a gaming system, he stopped at Guitar Center instead. “I just wanted to make beats better than what I hear on my mixtapes or on the radio, and I wanted to rap on it. I wasn’t thinking about anyone else at all.” His counterintuitive approach across five mixtapes and his G.O.O.D. Music debut EP, GOOD job, You Found Me, has captured the ears of artists and music aficionados alike, drawn to his unorthodox approach.

My Name Is Mars x Capital Cities

As March draws to a close, Capital Cities return with a single that takes the point of view of the Roman god the month was named for. Released today by Lazy Hooks/Capitol Records, “My Name Is Mars” blends an operatic chant with funky beats and a vocal appearance by Los Angeles-based rapper Sacha. The track is available for download and streaming HERE.

While making no apologies for his violent nature, the god of war exhibits an unexpected sense of humor with lyrics like: “Bulletproof vest, I’m well-dressed/I start the car and I start a war/I throw my spear sincerely/You come near, you pay dearly. »

Image remixes for the “My Name is Mars” lyric video, which can be seen HERE, were provided by the PicsArt global community. PicsArt is the world’s largest photo editing and sharing platform with a community of 100 million+ monthly active users and influencers. Learn more or download the app.

Hovhannes Avoyan, CEO and Founder of PicsArt, says, “We’re excited to announce our first-ever lyric video collaboration with Capitol Records and Capital Cities. We asked the PicsArt community to create god and galaxy-themed edits inspired by the lyrics of Capital Cities’ new track, ‘My Name is Mars.’ What we received was truly amazing – over 2,000 submissions and 200+ images were chosen for the video. PicsArt enables collaborative and entertaining fan engagement from any mobile device. It’s a brand new way to drive awesome content creation like that produced for Capital Cities. »

Capital Cities will bring their dazzling show to such summer festivals as SandJam and Arroyo Seco. See below for itinerary. Founded and fronted by Sebu Simonian and Ryan Merchant, the band offers a bright and groove-heavy take on alt-pop, drawing their infectious energy from the endless juxtapositions within each song: genre-bending production meets indelible melody, high-concept artistry meets classic pop sensibility, clever lyricism meets raw emotion.

The L.A.-based band first unveiled that aesthetic with the breakout hit “Safe and Sound,” which went multi-Platinum around the world, topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and entered the Top 10 of the Hot 100. It has sold more than 12 million adjusted tracks globally. The “Safe and Sound” video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for a GRAMMY. Cumulative streams of Capital Cities’ songs now surpass 1.2 billion while video views exceed 420 million globally. The band’s 2013 debut album, In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery, has sold 1.7 million adjusted albums worldwide.
