SIR NIKOLAI HOTEL × IZAKAYA

Sir Nikolai Hotel and IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar celebrate one year anniversary

A year ago, Hamburg lined up for the grand opening of Sir Nikolai and IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar. Well established in the city’s growing hotel and fine dining scene, Sir Hotels and THE ENTOURAGE GROUP celebrate a successful first year with the presentation of a 7-story high artpiece by acclaimed artist Steve Tepas.

Liran Wizman, owner and founder of Sir Hotels and Yossi Eliyahoo, owner and founder of THE ENTOURAGE GROUP commissioned Los Angeles-based artist Steve Tepas to create an artpiece for one of the building’s inner courtyard’s walls. The eye-catching 250sqm painting is titled “Collective Ascension” and shows nine abstract male faces looking upwards towards one abstract female who is bending down with her eyes closed. Inside each male head, boldly outlined in black on white background, the artist painted black staircases.

I created this piece in reflection of all the many journeys we take in life. We all have the same goal: rising to a higher level,” artist Steve Tepas explains.

The artpiece is visible through the retractable glass ceiling of the patio on the groundfloor, as well as from the hotel rooms facing the courtyard.

Sir Nikolai & IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar

The  seven-story Kontorhaus,  orginally  used  as  a  warehouse  for  seeds,  encompasses  94  rooms  and  suites  with  views  of  the  canal  and  the  Old  Town,  the  Speicherstadt  and  HafenCity  or  the  hotel’s  inner  courtyard.  The  open  and  inviting  public  spaces  on  the  groundfloor  stretch  from  The  Study,  a  cosy  lounge  where  guests  check-in,  over  The  Patio,  the  hotel’s  glass-roofed  courtyard  where  IZAKAYA  Asian  kitchen  &  bar  begins. The restaurant includes an open kitchen, where diners can watch the chef and his team artistically prepare the dishes at the kitchen counter, a 360-island bar overlooking the canal and two balconies,  floating over the water.

IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar defines skills and techniques of the Japanese cuisine with South American influences. The first IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar opened 2012 in Amsterdam and is one of the city’s most established fine dining spots. This success led to the opening of IZAKAYA in Hamburg, Ibiza and Munich. The  menu  features  fresh  sushi,  sashimi  and  a  variety  of  exquisite  meat  and  fish,  prepared  on  a  traditional  Robata-grill  or  in  a  Hibachi-fire  bowl.

A successful first year in Hamburg

Keeping with its philosophy of building meaningful relationships and offering extraordinary services to guests, Sir Hotel’s kicked-off two special initiatives throughout its first year in Hamburg. On Instagram, Sir Hotels launched travel guides that repurpose the social platform to provide an  innovative  way  for  locals  and  visitors  to  experience  the  city. Sir  Nikolai’s Hamburg guide is  an  easy-to-use  city  guide  highlighting  local  favourites  and  hidden  treasures. In addition, the recently launched program, Sir Explore, offers bespoke experiences to out-of-town guests and the locals alike. The collection of custom tours and workshops gives access to unique experts. Each host leading a Sir Explore experience represents an intriguing aspect of their community and culture; Sir Explore allows for a truly authentic insider perspective to each city.

At IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar time-honoured techniques blend together with innovative signatures, with spectacular dishes as the end result. Executive Chef Hariprasad Shetty composed a sophisticated menu of a variety of small, unconventional dishes and specialities of the Robata grill, always daring the guest to try something new.

Shortly after it opened, IZAKAYA Hamburg was awarded 15 points by the renowned Gault-Millau restaurant guide, making it one of the city’s top ten restaurants already in its first year.

Along with redefining Asian culinary classics, IZAKAYA Hamburg gives a cutting-edge twist to the classical Japanese and English tea ceremony by serving a totally new kind of ‘Afternoon Tea’ with an exclusive selection of extraordinary light bites, one of the best tea selections of the town.

Isaac Gracie’s Debut Album

Isaac Gracie’s highly anticipated, self-titled debut album is out now via Virgin EMI/Republic Records.

The album was largely produced by Markus Dravs at RAK Studios in London and features eleven tracks, including Gracie’s recent tracks, “Last Words,” “Terrified” and “The Death of You & I.” See the full tracklisting below.

Of his debut album, Gracie says, “Over the course of the two years it took to complete this record, I learnt more about myself and about music than I had in the entirety of my prior life. It was the biggest test I’ve ever undertaken and a winding journey that I won’t forget. To now have the record as a physical representation of a heavy and formative time in my life, that can be traced and re-remembered through listening to it, is an awesome and unique reward for the time and effort and love that was spent.”

In celebration of the album, Gracie is set to embark on a UK tour throughout April, followed by a European tour throughout May. See the full list of show dates below. Tickets are available now here.

23-year-old London-raised singer-songwriter Isaac Gracie has been finding his feet, working out who he is and discovering what he wants since the industry spotlight fell on him. The fuss was caused by a dusty-sounding, careworn home recording of “Last Words” that was uploaded online without expectation and any anticipation of what was to follow. The voice behind it was completely new to the premise of where writing a great song might lead him. Even now he’d tell you that he’s still slowly working it all out, but this debut collection sounds as fully-realized and confident as any of recent memory. Isaac Gracie is a new British voice, poetic in his placement of words and accomplished in their delivery.

ANDREW LLOYD: THE PLATINUM COLLECTION

In celebration of his 70th birthday, ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER UNMASKED: THE PLATINUM COLLECTION was recently released through UMe / Polydor.

As one of the most successful composers of the modern era, Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s repertoire includes some of the world’s most celebrated musicals; Sunset Boulevard, Cats, Aspects Of Love, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Starlight Express, The Phantom of The OperaSchool of Rock and Love Never Dies – to name but a few.

Last year, Lloyd Webber became the only person to equal the record set in 1953 by Rodgers & Hammerstein with four shows running concurrently on Broadway (Sunset Boulevard, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and School of Rock). Two of his shows are currently running in both Broadway and the West End: School Of Rock and The Phantom of the Opera, and his musicals have grossed more than $13.6  billion and have been watched by 302 million people across 44 countries. He has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

The collection is personally curated and overseen by Lloyd Webber to include classics from his earliest work starting with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat through his most recent School of Rock.

Of the new album, Lloyd Webber says: “I owe everyone involved in putting this compilation together a huge thank you.  A vast amount of thought has evidently gone into selecting tracks from my almost fifty year old career. This compilation brings back a heap of memories – it has made this ancient composer very happy.  I particularly love the new tracks and of course I love the orchestral suites. There’s nothing a composer likes more than hearing their melodies played by a cracking orchestra.”

Newly recorded songs from superstar artists Lana Del Rey (“You Must Love Me”, Evita), Nicole Scherzinger (“Memory”, Cats) and Gregory Porter (“Light at the End of the Tunnel”, Starlight Express) and add to the collection of his cherished works from the past five decades.

Of Lloyd Webber, Lana Del Rey says, “Andrew Lloyd Webber has been one of my primary inspirations in music, so to do a cover of one of his songs is a dream.”

Gregory Porter also expresses his admiration, “Andrew is an icon of not only musical theatre, but he’s an icon of music, our culture, and of our human experience.”

The Cats classic “Memory” by Nicole Scherzinger is available now as an instant grat track. Of being on the album, Scherzinger says, “Andrew’s music absolutely influenced me as an artist… It’s hard for me to fathom that I’m a part of one of Andrew’s career defining albums. That is in itself career defining for me. It’s a dream, and a lifelong accomplishment.”

The set also contains recordings by world-class performers such as Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Michael Ball, and released for the first time, Beyonce singing “Learn To Be Lonely” from the 2005 Academy Awards with Lloyd Webber accompanying on piano.

UNMASKED: THE PLATINUM COLLECTION is available as 2 CD and 4 CD editions. The 4-disc version contains an exclusive 40-page book with a personally penned introduction from Lloyd Webber and in-depth notes on each track, written by respected theatre critic and Lloyd Webber biographer Michael Coveney, together with tributes from Barbra Streisand and Glenn Close among others.

The fourth disc encompasses a mix of overtures and showstoppers from Lloyd Webber‘s key works, as well as newly created orchestral suites. The five new orchestral suites have been specially prepared from existing recordings, emphasising the grand orchestral aspects of his work. All CDs were mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Lloyd Webber‘s productions have sold more than 330 million tickets worldwide. The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running show on Broadway and second longest-running show in West End history. Cats and The Phantom of the Opera are two of Broadway’s four highest grossing shows. The Phantom of the Opera original cast album is the No. 1 Broadway album of all time in the U.S. and the #175 biggest seller among ALL albums of the SoundScan era in the U.S.  In addition to his worldwide sales and audiences, Lloyd Webber has been recognised by critics and peers with numerous accolades and awards including seven Oliviers, seven Tonys, three Grammys, one Golden Globe and an Oscar.
