3RD BBQ & BEER FESTIVAL TO FEATURE BILLY CURRINGTON AND LOCASH

Annual Festival to Showcase World Class Country Music, Refreshing Craft Beers and Delicious BBQ on May 11th-12th

Celebrate country music, the most refreshing craft beers, and mouthwatering BBQ in the state at the BBQ & Beer Festival, SoCal’s annual end-of-spring celebration in Santa Clarita on Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12. This two-day event features performances from country music stars Billy Currington and LOCASH, alongside the state’s very best in BBQ and beer.

Friday evening at the BBQ & Beer Festival is a celebration of world-class country music. Billy Currington is a 20-time top 40 hitmaker and Georgia-born superstar who has shared the stage with country music greats like Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw, and enjoyed several weeks at the top of the country charts with his single “Do I Make You Wanna” last summer. Country music duo LOCASH is made up of singer-songwriters Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, and whose fusion of modern country and classic heartland rock has enjoyed multiple gold certifications, eight charting singles and award show recognition from the ACM Awards, CMT Music Awards and the CMA Awards. After select dates with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on the SOUL 2 SOUL Tour, they are on the road in 2018 with country music heavyweight Billy Currington.

Don’t forget the brews: with a multitude of microbreweries pouring over 50 different handcrafted beers and ciders on tap, beer enthusiasts are invited to discover new favorites and to enjoy established and well-loved choices. Participating breweries include some favorites such as Pocock Brewing Co., Elysian Brewing Co., Island Brewing Company, Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Goose Island Beer Co., The Bloody Cure, Golden Road Brewing, Guinness, Shock Top, Stella Artois, Oggi’s, Breckenridge Brewery, Bravery Brewing, Lincoln Beer Company and more.  VIP ticketholders will receive an exclusive souvenir tasting cup for sampling with entry. (Note: while beer will available for purchase for all eligible Friday night attendees, the beer tasting is restricted to VIP ticketholders. Guests must be at least 21 years of age with valid I.D. to participate in Friday night’s VIP beer sampling.)

Saturday at the BBQ & Beer Festival is a family friendly BBQ extravaganza, designed with chowing down on the best hot, delicious BBQ and BBQ sauces from around the state in mind – and, of course, refreshing craft beer pairings for interested adults. A perfect family outing, Saturday’s event will feature live entertainment from ACDC tribute band Noise Pollution and Michael Jackson tribute band Foreverland, as well as a fun Kid Zone to keep everyone in the family entertained to their hearts content. Saturday’s food & BBQ participants include Taste of Soul on Wheels, It’s in the Sauce, Nava Sausage, Bizuri Ice Cream, Kernel Spuds, Our Place BBQ & Soul Food, Black Sugar Rib Co., Smokehouse BBQ, Busy Bee Café, and Chef TLC’s Sidewalk Café among others to be announced. (Note: there is no craft beer sampling on Saturday.)

Tickets are available for purchase online now. Tickets will also be sold at the door. General admission tickets are $30 on Friday (includes admission and access to concert) and $10 on Saturday (includes entry and live entertainment). VIP Sampling tickets are $75 (includes bottomless beer and access to concert). Individuals must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID to participate in the VIP sampling on Friday and to consume alcohol for the duration of the festival. Comparing, Contrasting, Cutting, GUINNESS

The Guinness Brewery at St. James’s Gate in Dublin has been brewing beer since its founder, Arthur Guinness, signed his now famous 9,000-year lease on the property on December 31st 1759. The brewery began its life producing ales for Dublin City, it would soon embark on a journey brewing new styles of beer originating in London known as Porter’s and Stout’s. This journey would lead the then small family brewery located on the outskirts of Dublin City to become the largest Stout brewery in the world. Along the 258-year journey that Guinness has undertaken it has been frequently enjoyed at the table alongside a well paired dish.

 

The secret of a good pairing lies in the three C’s, Comparing, Contrasting and Cutting.

 

We will now use Guinness Draught Stout as an example of how to Compare and Contrast the same beer with two different dishes, and examine how the presence of one can interact with the flavor of the other.

 

When Comparing we are required to find foods with similar flavor and intensity to that of the beer. These flavors will then compliment and resonate with each other.

 

For our first pairing, we use Guinness Draught Stout, found in new throw-back cans featuring the Kinkajou, a marketing creation from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s by legendary artist John Gilory. Distinctively dark with a rich creamy head, coffee and malty, and the perfect balance of bitter, sweet and roast characters. These flavors are the product of using roasted barley in our brewing and also give Guinness Draught Stout it’s iconic ruby red color. When the barley is roasted at 466 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 and 1Ž2 hours it undergoes a change called the Maillard reaction, a chemical reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars that also gives browned food its distinctive flavor. The flavors from the roasted barley used in Guinness Draught Stout balance wonderfully with the similar rich roasted flavors of an Applewood Smoked Bacon Sandwich with each sip of stout harmonizing with every bite of sandwich until both glass and plate are empty.

After looking at Comparing let us now review Contrasting Guinness Draught Stout with a different dish. As we know Stout tastes of coffee and bitter flavors, let us use those to contrast against and accentuate the sweet and creamy deliciousness of a warm Apple and Pear Tart nestled under a generous scoop of Vanilla Gelato. This pairing is very similar to having your cup of coffee with a sweet pastry or confection.

Finally let’s discuss Cutting. We will utilize Guinness Blonde American Lager as our example for Cutting. Guinness Blonde American Lager, light and hoppy with floral and citrus notes and a long malt biscuit finish. This crisp and refreshing lager has a lively mouthfeel provided by its ample carbonation, this carbonation is ideal for “Cutting” through creamy and juicy dishes and cleansing the palate after each bite. While enjoying a burger at a BBQ or creamy ham and cheese croquettes using this pairing technique, Cutting scrubs the palate and resets your taste buds after each sip.

200 Years of Friendship and St. Patrick’s Days : In Time for Milestone St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness is donating $1 to charity for each adult that dons a ‘Stache

This year marks the  200th St. Patrick’s Day Guinness will share with America, the latest reminder of the two-century connection between a legendary brewery and its good friends across the Atlantic. Once again, in the days and weeks leading up to March 17, it’s time for us all to embrace the stories we tell,  the memories we make and the bonds we build over a pint of Guinness.

The Guinness brand is encouraging all Americans, 21 years and older, to make a simple pledge (assuming they’ve already promised to drink responsibly, of course): gather with friends, new or old, toast to the many things we all have in common…and give a ‘Stache. Indeed, this St. Patrick’s Day, the Guinness ‘Stache – that unmistakable hint of foam left behind on the upper lip after the first sip of stout – is back as a symbol of the goodness and the Irish-ness that lives within all of us.

 From now through March 31, 2018, when adult beer lovers share photos of their ‘Staches – self-grown and groomed, drawn-on, or Guinness-enhanced – on social media (tagging @GuinnessUS and using #StacheForCharity), Guinness will donate $1 (up to $100,000) to the Guinness Gives Back Fund*, which supports nonprofits that contribute to the common good in our communities, including Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response organization.

“Over the past 200 years, so much has changed – yet so much has stayed the same, like people coming together to raise a pint of Guinness with their friends on St. Patrick’s Day,” said Guinness Brand Director Emma Giles. “We are proud to be part of such an enduring tradition that celebrates Irish heritage and, when it comes down to it, the power of friendship. The Guinness ‘Stache is a great way to bring that to life in a fun way for a great cause.”

The symbol of the ‘Stache will appear alongside Guinness brand activity at bars and restaurants and on social media throughout the St. Patrick’s Day season, including in some digital content that pays homage to 200 years of mustaches in America. To spread the word about the bonds a ‘Stache can build, the brand is releasing additional digital content that will help us all reflect on the friendships we cherish – and some very recognizable Guinness fans will also get involved in spreading the word.

In addition, it’s time for the latest limited-edition Guinness Draught cans, which will hit shelves in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The ongoing series celebrates the famed Guinness ad campaigns of the 1930s and ‘50s. While it doesn’t have a mustache, the kinkajou – which we thought was a sloth at first – will be featured on this version.

Driftwood Journeys of Discovery’s 6 Day Northern Island Tour lavishes guests inclined to leisurely paced culture with castles and manor house estates on whose walls is written much of Northern Island’s resiliency. Also beginning in 2018, all tours that include Galway will linger a bit longer here giving guests at least two hours for exploring and shopping in this bustling city. From Eyre Square, a walk down Shop Street is a must. Iconic Irish Brewer to Release Limited Time Brew for the U.S. and Host Celebrations On Its East and West Coasts for 200th Anniversary 



The story begins on October 16th, 1817 with a single line in a brewer’s log. The handwritten note reveals the first eight barrels of Guinness beer – a porter to be exact – meant for America would make their arrival in South Carolina. Ever since then, the bond between America and Ireland has continued to grow, from Irish immigrants searching for a better life to  community leaders to, of course, Guinness and the countless pints – shared responsibly – with the people of the United States. 

The anniversary this fall is a celebration of a 200-year love affair between a brewery and a people: Guinness and America. There’s no better time than now for the Guinness brand to say thank you to America by introducing the limited-edition Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout; bringing back a few favorite stout releases for a festive variety pack; and hosting a pair of public events in New York City and Los Angeles. 

“Two things have always been at the heart of the Guinness brand since our founding in 1759: brewing great beer and sharing our story,” said Emma Giles, Guinness Brand Director. “When we started brewingbeer for America 200 years ago, that story became a shared one. Now, every time you share a pint with someone else, another chapter begins.”

Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout is the latest beer created by the Open Gate Brewery – the pilot brewery located at St. James’s Gate in Dublin – where Guinness brewers experiment with new styles and reinterpret historical brews. Inspired by a recipe Benjamin Guinness – the son of Arthur Guinness – originally developed in 1817, this beer is brewed with Black Patent Malt and Golding Hops and has a 6% ABV. 

“We took a look at that export stout’s recipe from 1817 in our brewing records and used that as our inspiration here, but it’s not just an homage to who we were as brewers then or who America was as a country,” said Peter Simpson, Head Brewer at the Open Gate Brewery in Dublin. “We’re also using this beer as a way to show how much we’re looking forward to the next 200 years. We knew it had to be special, and we really think this throwback recipe captures exactly what we wanted from 1817 all the
way through 2017.” 

This October, Guinness will also release its newest limited-edition Guinness Draught cans, featuring artwork from the legendary Guinness ads from the 1930s and the 1950s that featured various zoo animals. Previous limited edition cans have featured the much-loved Guinness toucan and tortoise, among other works.  

The 200 Years of Stout in America Mixed Pack – also on its way from Guinness – will bring back a few favorite stout recipes to add to the festivities. The full list of celebratory releases includes:

While the past 200 years are the reason for celebration, the next 200 years have even more possibility. The newest chapter in this Irish-American story will be set in Maryland, where the first Guinness brewery on U.S. soil in more than 60 years will open in 2018. The brewery’s name, the Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House, is a combination of the pilot brewery at St. James’s Gate and a nod to the plan for this new brewery to be a center for barrel-aging beer. The new home for Guinness in the U.S. will also be the permanent brewing site for Guinness Blonde American Lager and other new beers created
specifically for the states.
