Aston Martin is licenced to thrill at British Grand Prix

One of the most enduring movie partnerships will be in the spotlight this weekend when Aston Martin Lagonda and EON Productions, the company that produces the James Bond films, celebrate the 1,007th Formula 1 Grand Prix, which takes place at Silverstone.

The British Grand Prix is the home race for the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team, so it is fitting that the race falls on a number forever associated with James Bond.

The two Aston Martin Red Bull Racing F1TM cars will feature the iconic 007 logo and Bond number plates on the back of their rear wings. Max Verstappen’s RB15 Formula 1 car will run the number plate from the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger (1964) while Pierre Gasly’s car will feature the Aston Martin V8 plate from The Living Daylights (1987).

The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing pit garage will feature wall graphics inspired by Q’s MI6 Lab.

Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, Dr Andy Palmer said: “Aston Martin is proud of its association with James Bond. This weekend, we look forward to celebrating this longstanding partnership at Formula One’s 1,007th Grand Prix.”

When James Bond first appeared in the iconic Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger (1964) a lasting relationship was created. The following movie, Thunderball (1965), featured the Aston Martin DB5 at Silverstone in a chase sequence. Through the decades, Bond has driven many Aston Martins including the DBS, the V8 Vantage Volante and the DB10 to name but a few. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Aston Martin DBS, which featured in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, 50 special-edition 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggeras will be sold. The first of these special cars will be on track at Silverstone during the Pirelli Hot Laps sessions. A SEASON OF MILESTONES FOR FORMULA 1®

Next week the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship™ starts with the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2019. Motorsport’s pinnacle series will take to the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 March, launching the 70th Formula 1® championship. Formula 1® attracts fans from across the world, captivated by the sport’s cutting-edge technology and its remarkable athletes in their quest for perfection. The competition’s enduring spirit, as well as its commitment to bold performance and innovation, aligns closely with Rolex’s own passion for continuous excellence. This season, Rolex marks its seventh consecutive year as a Global Partner and the Official Timepiece of Formula 1®.

In a move to improve overtaking, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula 1® have introduced rules reducing aerodynamic turbulence from the front and rear wing, encouraging the cars to follow each other in close proximity. Rolex Testimonee and multiple Formula 1® race winner Mark Webber explains their impact: “The new regulations are designed to encourage drivers to get into a position to overtake. The cars should be more predictable, meaning the drivers will be more confident about creating exciting passing opportunities. There’s definitely a lot to look forward to this season and I think there will be a good fight for the championship. I hope it goes deep into the year – I really believe it will.”

The 2019 season, spanning March to December and consisting of 21 races around the world, will feature several milestones. Next month’s FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN CHINESE GRAND PRIX 2019 will be the championship’s 1,000th Grand Prix™. Since its first race in May 1950, Formula 1® has pioneered technology across the globe, showcasing legendary drivers behind the wheel of the most advanced racing cars. This May, the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO 2019 celebrates 90 years since the inaugural race around the Principality’s famous streets and almost a century later the circuit still paves a virtually identical route. Rolex Testimonee and 2016 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Nico Rosberg highlights the importance of celebrating the sport’s past: “I’m very proud of the great heritage of Formula 1 and the small part I have played in its history. On 7 September 2019 at Monza (Italy), Sir Jackie Stewart, a Rolex Testimonee for more than half a century and three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion, will celebrate 50 years to the day since he clinched his first championship. The Scottish legend, who marks the occasion at the same circuit where he sealed the crown in 1969, reflects on the milestone: “I’ve always felt emotion is dangerous for a racing driver, but I hope there is a little flush of it when I get to Monza this year. I’m incredibly proud, and fortunate, to have seen the sport grow in prestige as well as from a safety perspective, it’s a wonderful story. To honor the anniversary at one of the greatest race tracks in the world where I won my first championship is truly special and I look forward to a weekend full of celebrations.”

This season will feature several new driver partnerships, with only Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport and Rich Energy Haas F1® Team keeping the same line-up as in 2018. The shake-up has created added intrigue as the teams travel to Australia. “There’s nothing like going racing,” says Mark Webber. “It’s amazing how quickly the drivers will settle into their new environments, but prior to Melbourne they have had only a limited amount of testing, so the first race of the year will answer a lot of questions. Melbourne is one of the best Grands Prix of the year; the city comes to life. It is very significant for the event that Rolex has been involved for so long, united by their world-class approach and attention to detail. For me personally, and for all Australians, it makes the event extra special that such an incredible brand like Rolex is so closely associated.”

Pirelli 2019 Tire Range Presentation for Formula 1

Next year, there will be just three P Zero colors at each race. These will always be the same – white, yellow and red – denoting the hard, medium and soft tire choices respectively at every Grand Prix. But that doesn’t mean that there will be only three tire compounds.

Instead, the hard, medium and soft tire compounds will continue to vary to suit the different characteristics of each track. For instance, a Red soft tire for Monaco will differ substantially from a Red soft tire for Silverstone or Suzuka. The precise number of tire compounds available, covering a wide spectrum from soft to hard, will be communicated in December after homologation from the FIA. Before every race next year, Pirelli will reveal which exact tire compounds form the hard, medium and soft choices for the weekend. This new system makes it easy for the casual fan to tell the difference between the tires, yet still allows people who want more detail to know which of the specific tire compounds available are being used.

The colors for the Cinturato intermediate tire and full wet tires remain unchanged next year – green and blue respectively. Mario Isola, Pirelli’s Head of Car Racing – “We’ve been talking about this with the Teams, FIA and Formula 1 for a while. The idea behind the change is to make all the tires more easily recognizable and explainable – especially for television – while still clearly denoting which specific tire compounds are being used at each race”.

Mullin Automotive Museum’s Seven French Classics During Monterey Car Week

The Mullin Automotive Museum announced it will display seven French classics at various events during the world-renowned Monterey Car Week. Guests of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will have a chance to see prized classics including the 2018 Peninsula Classics Best of the Best-winning 1936 Bugatti Atlantic 57SC, a 1950 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix, a 1963 Citroen DS19 Concorde and more from the museum’s prestigious collection.

Since the Mullin’s inception in 2010, its mission has been to show and exhibit its cars to educate the public about twentieth-century French automotive styling and design. Monterey Car Week provides the ultimate stage for these French classics.

“Each year, we select some of the best motorcars to bring to the Monterey Peninsula,” said Mullin Automotive Museum Founder and CEO Peter Mullin. “Aligning with the museum’s mission statement, these classics should be enjoyed not only in an exhibit setting but also in shows around the world. We’re excited about this year’s showcase and hope passionate car enthusiasts in attendance will be equally ecstatic.”

The events and the automobiles to be featured are as follows:

Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion— August 22-25, 2018

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will return to Laguna Seca Raceway and feature the world’s most historically significant competition cars, driven the way they were truly intended. Four cars from the Mullin will be featured at this year’s event and will be available for viewing both up close in the pits and roaring down the main straight.

Setting the pace will be a 1925 Bugatti 35C Grand Prix, which began as the first 35A to be imported to England. The car was later transformed into a 35C by former owner Dick Crosthwaite and marque expert Hugh Conway. In its original configuration, this car finished second at BARC Brooklands at a top lap speed of 103.22 mph driven by Christopher Staniland in 1926. The following year, it won the Brooklands Race and the Bugatti Cup, and subsequently was raced frequently in both Northern and Southern Ireland for several years with very successful results. Peter Mullin purchased the car in 1991 after Hamish Moffatt had completed its restoration in 1986.

A 1938 Talbot-Lago Type 26 SS Roadster will also make an appearance at the historic raceway. This Type 26 was originally designed by Figoni and Falaschi and alter updated by the Chappe Brothers. The car raced at Le Mans in 1939 before being put in storage for the duration of World War II.

Guests will also see another Mullin classic, the 1950 Talbot-Lago Type 26 Grand Prix, which helped developed the prestige of French racing and develop the reputation of international Formula racing worldwide. With its twin ignition and sleek tapered body, the car has top speeds of more than 166 miles per hour. Since acquiring the car 1992, Peter Mullin has driven it in vintage racing events all over the world.

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering— August 24, 2018

The crown jewel of the Mullin collection, a 1936 Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC, will be displayed on the rolling grasses of Quail Lodge & Gold Club at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. This Atlantic represents the first of only three models ever produced. Marked by riveted flanges on a blue, all-aluminum body, this particular Bugatti is the only surviving “Aéro Coupé,” a designation given to the first two cars that were mechanically very similar to the aerolithe. Delivered new in 1936 to Britain’s Nathaniel Mayer Victor Rothschild, third Baron Rothschild, the car has had only a handful of owners in its 80-year history.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance— August 26, 2018

As the world’s foremost Concours event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will feature two Citroens from the Mullin collection. The first of which, the Henri Chapron-built 1965 DS19 Majesty, is one of only 27 models ever produced. Known for its higher and more angular roofline, the car was ordered by Rene Gaston-Dreyfus in 1964 with particular specifications including striking metallic paint and technologically advanced accessories. It will be a one-of-a-kind feature at the world-class event.

The second car to be showcased is the 1963 DS19 Concorde with its aerodynamic body and sophisticated hydropneumatic suspension. The classic also serves as an important example of elegant bodywork hand built by Chapron himself. One of 38 Concorde models ever made, the car was purchased by Peter Mullin in 2016 in Europe.

FERRARI WORLD: WHERE AUTOMOTIVES MEET CARNIVAL TYPE RECREATION

“IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DREAM FOR IT”. Picture this. Stalls and booths of classic and supercars parked in rows with kids testing them out. The automotive amusement park is home to the Formula Rossa that has an acceleration: 0-240km/h in 4.9sec, 0 -100km/h in 2sec with a G-Force of 1.7Gs, matching that of an actual Ferrari supercar.

But that’s just the beginning. You could enjoy an ebullient change of speed and explore miniature Italy in a small-scale Ferrari 250 California, circa 1958 adorned with cityscapes to famous landmarks and racing venues like Portofino and the Amalfi Coast, Monza Racetrack, the Colosseum di Roma, Venezia, and of course, Maranello.

The amusement park was inaugurated in the year 2010 and is the world’s first Ferrari themed park as well as the largest indoor theme park. The design of the park itself is a homage to the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body. The United Arab Emirates has a tendency to overdo in terms of world records and even here there seems to be no stone unturned. The Ferrari logo that sits at the complex’s center, a stunning 65m x 48.5m logo,  is the largest Ferrari logo ever created.

Top must see attractions are all centered around Ferrari’s extensive history including the V12, a flume ride, the G-Force tower, which takes visitors to a height of 62m, and the Pit Wall, where participants can make race-day judgment calls. Racing and driving simulators are available as well that might cause visitors to burn away some cash but its entirely worth it.  

For the really adventurous, Ferrari World also includes the Paddock, which puts you into the shoes of a Ferrari pit crew on a Grand Prix day, and a museum that tracks the history of the car brand from its earliest days to its current unmatched dominance.
