A SEASON OF MILESTONES FOR FORMULA 1®

Next week the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship™ starts with the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2019. Motorsport’s pinnacle series will take to the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 March, launching the 70th Formula 1® championship. Formula 1® attracts fans from across the world, captivated by the sport’s cutting-edge technology and its remarkable athletes in their quest for perfection. The competition’s enduring spirit, as well as its commitment to bold performance and innovation, aligns closely with Rolex’s own passion for continuous excellence. This season, Rolex marks its seventh consecutive year as a Global Partner and the Official Timepiece of Formula 1®.

In a move to improve overtaking, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula 1® have introduced rules reducing aerodynamic turbulence from the front and rear wing, encouraging the cars to follow each other in close proximity. Rolex Testimonee and multiple Formula 1® race winner Mark Webber explains their impact: “The new regulations are designed to encourage drivers to get into a position to overtake. The cars should be more predictable, meaning the drivers will be more confident about creating exciting passing opportunities. There’s definitely a lot to look forward to this season and I think there will be a good fight for the championship. I hope it goes deep into the year – I really believe it will.”

The 2019 season, spanning March to December and consisting of 21 races around the world, will feature several milestones. Next month’s FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN CHINESE GRAND PRIX 2019 will be the championship’s 1,000th Grand Prix™. Since its first race in May 1950, Formula 1® has pioneered technology across the globe, showcasing legendary drivers behind the wheel of the most advanced racing cars. This May, the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO 2019 celebrates 90 years since the inaugural race around the Principality’s famous streets and almost a century later the circuit still paves a virtually identical route. Rolex Testimonee and 2016 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Nico Rosberg highlights the importance of celebrating the sport’s past: “I’m very proud of the great heritage of Formula 1 and the small part I have played in its history. I look forward to being involved in these landmark occasions, to reflect and reminisce on the sport’s tremendous legacy and its exceptional achievements. Formula 1 continues to be one of the most technologically advanced sports in the world and these attributes – legacy, excellence and innovation – fit perfectly with Rolex.”

On 7 September 2019 at Monza (Italy), Sir Jackie Stewart, a Rolex Testimonee for more than half a century and three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion, will celebrate 50 years to the day since he clinched his first championship. The Scottish legend, who marks the occasion at the same circuit where he sealed the crown in 1969, reflects on the milestone: “I’ve always felt emotion is dangerous for a racing driver, but I hope there is a little flush of it when I get to Monza this year. I’m incredibly proud, and fortunate, to have seen the sport grow in prestige as well as from a safety perspective, it’s a wonderful story. To honor the anniversary at one of the greatest race tracks in the world where I won my first championship is truly special and I look forward to a weekend full of celebrations.”

This season will feature several new driver partnerships, with only Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport and Rich Energy Haas F1® Team keeping the same line-up as in 2018. The shake-up has created added intrigue as the teams travel to Australia. “There’s nothing like going racing,” says Mark Webber. “It’s amazing how quickly the drivers will settle into their new environments, but prior to Melbourne they have had only a limited amount of testing, so the first race of the year will answer a lot of questions. Melbourne is one of the best Grands Prix of the year; the city comes to life. It is very significant for the event that Rolex has been involved for so long, united by their world-class approach and attention to detail. For me personally, and for all Australians, it makes the event extra special that such an incredible brand like Rolex is so closely associated.”

A landmark occasion in electric car desirability and performance was celebrated in Geneva on Monday night (4th March) when Michael Perschke, Automobili Pininfarina CEO, Anand Mahindra, Mahindra Group Chairman and Paolo Pininfarina, Pininfarina SpA Chairman, unveiled the Pininfarina-designed pure-electric luxury hyper GT Battista at a gala VIP event on the eve of the Geneva International Motor Show.

Michael Perschke, CEO, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “The Battista represents a beautiful dream for us all. In just 12 months we have set up an amazing new electric car brand that delivers on the Pininfarina-family dream to see a luxury car solely badged Pininfarina. The Battista represents purity, beauty and rarity, and a vision for sustainability that appeals to the heart as much as the head. In celebration of the Battista’s electric performance and the spotlight it shines on automotive sustainability, its reveal was shared by Nico Rosberg, the 2016 FIA Formula 1 World Champion, and the presentation of a Mahindra Racing Formula E car with bespoke Battista livery.

The Battista will set new performance landmarks for a road-legal car and forms the core of Automobili Pininfarina’s sustainable automotive strategy that will be strengthened at Rosberg’s GREENTECH FESTIVAL in Berlin in May. Automobili Pininfarina has been invited to host the Battista’s German launch at the 2019 GREENTECH FESTIVAL and celebrate a mutual ambition between the two organisations to promote the rapid development of green technologies, accelerate a positive change in car ownership and excite people about electric motoring.

The Battista encompasses a vision of beauty and sustainability, delivering 1,900 hp and zero emissions in classic Pininfarina style, where form and function are elegantly combined in a beautiful carbon body. The Battista is the first electric car to truly fall in love with.

Following on from their unveiling last night, 4th March, the three all-electric Battistas received their public world premieres on the Automobili Pininfarina and Pininfarina SpA stands at the Geneva International Motor Show, which runs from 5th March to 17th March.

Automobili Pininfarina presented the Battista in three distinct and elegant design specifications and colours: a Blu Iconica Battista featuring the Iconica by Automobili Pininfarina design pack; a Grigio Luserna satin grey car with satin blue accents and anodized aluminium detailing; and a third Battista in a pure pearlescent white called Bianco Sestriere. In describing the three Battistas, Design Director Luca Borgogno underlined a unified purity of purpose for the car: to be the world’s most desirable electric car.

Demonstrating Automobili Pininfarina’s desire to produce the world’s most sought-after all-electric hypercar, the Munich-based company also announced an exciting addition to its engineering team. Rene Wollman has joined Automobili Pininfarina as Programme Director, Sportscars. Wollmann brings a wealth of experience to the Battista programme having most recently managed the launch of possibly the most extreme motorsport-inspired road car ever, the AMG ONE hypercar.

Wollmann takes his place alongside an enviable line-up of experts excited by the challenge to launch the Battista, including Test and Development Driver Nick Heidfeld, Chief Technical Officer Christian Jung and Senior Technical Advisor Peter Tutzer.

The Battista reveal was accompanied by Automobili Pininfarina’s closest collaborators, Pininfarina SpA, Mahindra Racing, Rimac Automobili and Pirelli SpA.

  • Pininfarina SpA has designed the Battista and will hand-build the luxury hyper GT in Italy at its famous Cambiano headquarters, with the first Battista arriving during the Carrozzeria’s 90th anniversary.
  • Mahindra Racing currently leads the Formula E Team and Drivers’ Championships and has contributed vital engineering expertise in electric performance generated over five years in Formula E.
  • Rimac Automobili will adapt its world-beating battery technology to the demands and desires of the connoisseurs and collectors who will take ownership of the Battista.
  • Pirelli SpA is developing a tyre programme to ensure the Battista’s full power can be appreciated as much as its Pininfarina design, with the Battista show cars featuring bespoke Pirelli 21-inch tyres on dramatic new unique rims.

In hosting the powertrain of the future in an elegant yet functionally efficient carbon fibre body and chassis featuring double wishbone coil over suspension, the Battista will shatter traditional performance targets set by machinery powered by any internal combustion engine. Yet it will do this with a focus on luxury and drivability that offers a targeted 450-kilometre range and a level of comfort and connectivity that will tempt owners to take to the roads more than the track.

In redefining electric vehicle dynamics in a Pininfarina-badged car, the Battista has the distinct potential to become an instant collector’s item, particularly as no more than 150 will ever be built, all delivered to their owners through a global network of the world’s most respected luxury and performance car retailers.

All-new Hispano Suiza Carmen at the Geneva Motor Show

The Carmen is inspired by the unique style and elegance of Carmen Mateu (1936-2018), granddaughter of the company’s founder, and mother of the President. The ‘Carmen’ script featured on the car is a direct representation of her signature.

Carmen was inspired on one and iconic designs in the 1930’s Hispano Suiza called Dubonnet Xenia. André Dubonnet launches a new improved version of the Xenia in 1938, more powerful and with a more aerodynamic bodywork. Sliding doors, enveloping windscreen, futuristic lines. The Carmen will be a modern representation of how the brand would’ve evolved through time.

The Carm boasts exceptional aerodynamic properties of boost performance and handling, the carbon fibre monocoque and body panels keep weight under 1,690 kg, it’s custom-made electric powertrain employs two motors to deliver 750kW (1019 PS) to rear wheels. The torque vectoring adapts rear wheel torque according to the driver inputs and levels of grip available. The double wishbone suspension and adaptive damping control deliver engaging handling

Welcome to the House of Rolls-Royce here in Geneva!

Each year we come to Geneva to update you about our business and to share with you some truly special examples of our wonderful products.

And this year is no exception.

As the world’s pinnacle luxury brand, celebrating our 115th anniversary this year, we take great pride in these beautiful and precious items, lovingly handcrafted by the nearly 2000 people who work at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood.

This celebrated facility in West Sussex, is acknowledged as a global centre of luxury manufacturing excellence. It lies at the very heart of the Rolls-Royce success story.

Our Home is a very unique place – a creative oasis where we are constantly guided by the vision of our founding fathers, Charles Rolls and Henry Royce to “Strive for perfection in everything you do”.

Since 2003 every Rolls-Royce in the world has been created here.

Ladies and Gentlemen, at Rolls-Royce, our clients are our life-blood. They are our heroes and our friends and we are obsessively focused on providing for their needs and desires. Then, we have brought from Goodwood examples of our two highly contemporary, seductive coupe models.

Finally, to complete our product line-up we are joined this year by our hugely successful Rolls-Royce Cullinan, our first SUV.

Cullinan was launched to great global acclaim last year and has received effusive headlines in the media and an enthusiastic welcome from our customers.

I am delighted to tell you that our forward orders for Cullinan stretch into the fourth quarter of this year.

We are in full production at our Goodwood factory and continue to make substantial investments, including the employment of an additional 200 associates, in order to meet this very pleasing customer demand.

I can confidently say today that Rolls-Royce is set on a continuous and successful growth trajectory.

And speaking of success, it is with great pride that I can tell you that 2018 was another exceptional year for Rolls-Royce.

We set an historic business record, achieving our highest annual sales in our marque’s 115-year history.

We delivered 4,107 cars to customers in over 50 countries around the world and in doing so achieved year-on-year sales growth in all regions. The Americas remained our largest market.

But at Rolls-Royce it’s not all about volume.

Our unique and successful business model focuses on preserving the rarity of our products, which is a key demand of our customers, while at the same time achieving record levels of profitability.

This, we believe, is the real hallmark of how a true luxury brand should be managed.

In this regard I am happy to report that the Rolls-Royce business generates pleasing profits and we continue to contribute to the bottom line of our shareholder, the BMW Group.

RUF TO UNVEIL FIRST PRODUCTION CTR ANNIVERSARY AND ALL-NEW RUF GT AT THE 89TH GENEVA AUTO SHOW

RUF Automobile will unveil the first production example of the RUF CTR Anniversary as well as the RUF GT next month in Geneva, Switzerland, kicking off the manufacturer’s 80th anniversary.

RUF Automobile GmbH, manufacturer and creator of bespoke sports cars that combine performance and suitability for everyday use, will unveil two cars at the 89th Geneva Auto Show on March 5 in Hall 5 at Stand 5030 of the Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland. The first production example of the RUF CTR Anniversary, known in prototype form as the RUF CTR 2017, will be unveiled alongside the all-new RUF GT. The pair will act as anchors in the RUF booth alongside several other RUF models from throughout the companies 80-year history, including the eRuf which was presented at the Geneva motor show in 2009.

The first production example of the RUF CTR Anniversary will be delivered to its owner during the Geneva Auto Show. The model was first announced at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show on the 30th anniversary of the original CTR and produces 710 PS (700 BHP) from its twin-turbo 3.6L, flat-six engine. Weighing in at just 1,200 kilograms (2,640 pounds), the 2019 RUF CTR Anniversary has a top speed of 360 km/h (223 mph).

The all-new RUF GT is a Porsche 991-based model acting as an extension of the previous generation of the Porsche 911. The RUF GT features a 3.0 liter flat-six engine producing 522 PS (515 BHP), 645 Nm (476 ft-lbs) of torque and has a total weight of 1,450 kilograms (3,197 pounds). The launch-control equipped 7-speed double clutch gearbox helps the car accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. The duck tail generates high downforce and keeps the RUF GT stable at its top speed of 320 kph (199 mph).

“Each year we hope to push the technological envelope further, creating a more enjoyable, more usable and better performing sports car,” said Estonia Ruf, marketing director of RUF Automobile GmbH. “The two cars being unveiled in Geneva are the pinnacle of their respective niche in the car world. They are the best options when it comes to pure driving pleasure. That was the goal from the start.”

ABOUT RUF AUTOMOBILE GMBH

In 1939, Alois Ruf Sr. first formed his company, AUTO RUF, as a general service garage. The company grew and in 1949 he added a gas station to the company complex. By 1955, Ruf Sr. recognized a need in Germany for a full-size tourist bus and challenged himself to build his own to run this as a separate business. In 1963, the company began specializing in Porsche vehicles, a direction that Alois Ruf Jr.  vowed to continue when he assumed directorship of the company in 1974. CSR2 Racing x Lamborghini

As the Huracán Performante Spyder and Urus make their international auto show debuts at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, CSR2 players will be able to interact with both vehicles in-game, giving them unparalleled, behind-the-scenes access to the world’s newest supercars.

Beginning today, CSR2 players will be able to experience the Huracán Performante Spyder and Urus in both in-game racing and real-world AR environments.Specifically:

  • The Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder, which debuted for the first time ever at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show, will feature a special golden cup March 9 – 12 in-game. Players will be able to collect one of 17 different configurations, including the Geneva unveiled vehicle, and take part in a special event ladder to earn rewards and upgrades.
  • The Lamborghini Urus, having made its North American debut in Detroit in January, will be the crew championship prize, with the top 10 crews getting to own the Geneva configuration of the vehicle. Lamborghini Urus season players that participate in a crew and achieve 20 million respect points will be guaranteed another Geneva configuration of the vehicle. The luxury SUV touts a cutting-edge, distinct and streamlined design, boasting Italian craftsmanship intersecting with state-of-the-art technology, making it an ultimate garage must-have for CSR2 players.

“Calibre RW1212 is a tribute to the present and a symbol of the future. Its name picks up the digits of our address here in Switzerland: 1212, standing for the Geneva suburb Grand-Lancy. It symbolizes the path we have traveled to date and the free-spirited approach we bring to watchmaking. It is our first in-house movement, born from our partnership with the Swiss movement manufacturer Sellita”, said Elie Bernheim, CEO RAYMOND WEIL.

VIRTUOSIC PRECISION

Aligning with the finest Swiss watchmaking traditions, RAYMOND WEIL is innovating by creating a new movement in collaboration with Sellita. This exclusive movement was developed and designed by the R&D department of the Geneva watch company and produced by the movement manufacturer based in Le Crêt-du-Locle, in the Jura Mountains. Its distinctive characteristic is the 6 o’clock front-dial positioning of its regulating organ. Named Calibre RW1212 as a nod to the postal code of the company headquarters in Grand-Lancy, it pays tribute to 40 years of RAYMOND WEIL creations and to the Brand’s determination to highlight the richness of watchmaking expertise, while infusing it with its uniquely free-spirited attitude.

RAYMOND WEIL introduces a model with a boldly distinctive design, notably featuring an openworked dial revealing the regulating organ at 6 o’clock. The balance-and-spring assembly, held by two bridges, reveals a construction echoing that of the most beautiful tourbillon regulators. The freelancer “Calibre RW1212” is a two-hand model providing an understated display of the hours and minutes.

It took 18 months for the R&D team at RAYMOND WEIL to develop the movement and design the dial revealing the regulating organ at 6 o’clock. All the elements closely relating to the regulating organ were redesigned and pared down, so as to endow this in-house movement with its subtle transparency. The calibre then sprang to life in the hands of the Sellita watchmakers.

Framed by a 42.5mm steel case, the balance-and-spring assembly is the focus of attention. The diamond-polished balance wheel and skeletonized bridges ensure transparent visibility extending to the very heart of the watch. Powered by a mechanical self-winding movement, the freelancer “Calibre RW1212” beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 38-hour power reserve. Its oscillating weight is adorned with a “Côtes de Genève” motif and engraved with the RAYMOND WEIL logo. The movement is built in such a way as to showcase its beautiful mechanism on the dial side. The strategic organs positioned above the mainplate and the symmetry of the bridges accentuate the architectural nature of this elegant and beautifully balanced model.

The freelancer “Calibre RW1212” comes in several versions, featuring a silver-toned or black dial teamed with a steel case and bracelet, or with a leather strap, as well as in two-tone variations featuring matching bracelets or leather straps.
