French Renaissance Anniversary

WEILL TO REPRESENT LOIRE VALLEY TOURISM BOARD FOR THE 500TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FRENCH RENAISSANCE

Geoffrey Weill Associates has been appointed US public relations representative of the Loire Valley Tourism Board, on behalf of Atout France, the France Tourism Development Agency, to promote the 500th Anniversary of the French Renaissance this year.

The year 1519 symbolically marked the start of the Renaissance, on the occasion of the death of Leonardo da Vinci at Amboise, the start of the construction of the Château of Chambord and the birth of Catherine de’ Medici in Florence. To mark the anniversary, the Loire Valley region, considered the birthplace of the French Renaissance, will celebrate the artistic, cultural, scientific and intellectual developments of this period with a number of celebrations held throughout 2019.

“We are thrilled to be working with the Loire Valley Tourism Board and Atout France to promote the celebration of such a fascinating period of history in France to travelers,” says Geoffrey Weill. “France is one of our favorite destinations in the world, and we are honored to have been invited to be a part of such a significant anniversary.”

Highlights in the Loire Valley region will include a large traveling digital show mixing contemporary artistic and musical creations, an international architecture competition, numerous exhibitions held in and around the châteaux of the Loire Valley and a variety of guided tours, banquets and international symposia.

Tyler Florence & Cooper’s Hawk

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants, a lifestyle brand centered around food and wine, has announced their second wine collaboration with Chef Tyler Florence: a Sauvignon Blanc. The blend is a labor of love between Cooper’s Hawk winemaker Rob Warren and the Food Network host, author, restaurateur and winemaker, Tyler Florence. The collaboration wine is a limited production blend made for the company’s 300,000-plus Wine Club and is positioned as July’s “Wine of the Month”. While the wine debuted at a members-only Wine Club dinner hosted by Florence in Naples, Florida on June 20th, restaurant guests can sample the blend by the glass in the dining and tasting rooms throughout the month of July in any of Cooper’s Hawk 32 restaurants.

Florence + the Machine x Big God

Florence + the Machine unveil a new song, “Big God,” and video today—watch it, choreographed by Akram Khan and Florence and directed by Autumn de Wilde, HERE. “Big God” is the third track to be released from Florence + the Machine’s hugely anticipated fourth studio album High As Hope, out June 29 on Republic Records.

Says Florence:

‘Big God’ was written about that feeling when someone has not replied to your text, the modern phenomenon of ‘Ghosting’ which is one of my favourite words but not my favourite feeling. I was describing it to someone and they said to me ‘You need a big god’, as if the need in me were so cavernous, it would take something enormous to fill it. Probably something bigger than a text message.

It’s always been a very physical song. I saw a dance piece in my head as I was writing it, so to co choreograph something with Akram Khan was a huge honour. Autumn de Wilde fully understood what I was trying to do. The power of the desire within the void, left with yourself to rage and wonder and really it is yourself you are raging against. Not the ghost.

Akram Khan adds:

For me, this encounter with Florence and her powerful song somehow navigated itself towards the element—water. But the direction of the dance also became a resistance to all things that wish to oppress, a sort of protest dance and yet a celebratory one towards a new found freedom.

Furthermore, the band have added additional shows to their 23-city North American fall headline tour, including second nights at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl September 26, Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem October 6 and New York’s Barclays Center October 10. The Leeu Collection invest in Alajmo S.P.A

Luxury hotel group Leeu Collection (www.leeucollection.com) has taken a 10% stake in Alajmo S.P.A (www.alajmo.it), the Italian family business established by brothers Massimiliano (Max) Alajmo, the world’s youngest three-star Michelin chef, and Raffaele (Raf), the company’s Chief Executive and maître des lieux.

The purchase mirrors previous investments made by Analjit (BAS) Singh, the owner of Leeu Collection, all of which have a family focus; companies such as South African Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines and Indian chef Ritu Dalmia’s Riga Foods and Mamagoto.

Alajmo S.p.A. operates four fine-dining restaurants and six café-bistros, including Le Calandre and La Montecchia restaurants in Padua, Caffè Stern in Paris and Grancaffè & Ristorante Quadri in St. Mark’s Square, Venice, as well as a line of food products and a special events business, all overseen by Max from Le Calandre, his vibrant culinary laboratory, which has held three Michelin stars since 2003.

Leeu Collection currently has three properties (Leeu Estates, Leeu House and Le Quartier Français) in Franschhoek, South Africa, with Linthwaite House in the Lake District due to re-open following a year-long refurbishment in June 2018. Two further hotels are under construction in London and Florence.

Said Raf Alajmo, CEO of Alajmo S.p.A., “Having, last year, bought back the shares once owned by Italian investment firm Palladio Finanziaria, my brother and I decided to open our doors to a foreign shareholder. A chance meeting with BAS in Milan has led to him purchasing a share of Alajmo S.p.A., in what we sincerely hope will be the first step towards a strong alliance between our two companies.”

In response, Analjit Singh said, “I am always attracted to invest in family businesses that share a similar vision to mine and, because there are a lot of synergies between Leeu and Alajmo, I feel sure that the results of this partnership will be seen for years to come.”

As part of the interactive schedule of programming, this year’s Artexpo New York will include Art Labs, featuring specially curated site-specific projects by prominent galleries, art institutions, and art collectives within the show; Spotlight Program, providing collectors with a focused look at several prominent artists and galleries that will each be creating a site-specific exhibition, and the LaunchPad Artist Program, showcasing an emerging and unrepresented artist who is selected to create an exhibition at the show, resulting from a collaboration among local art institutions, galleries, and Artexpo New York. This year’s expo also features the Topics & Trends Education Program, which includes four days of complimentary seminars and conference classes offering expert perspectives on subjects ranging from art and the economy, small business management and art marketing to design and decor trends and social media management for artists. An addition to this year’s Artexpo New York will include an artists Sculpture Garden – a dedicated installation at the rear of Pier 94, with more than 10 of today’s leading sculptors exhibiting their most impressive work. This area will also provide seating, allowing attendees to relax while they browse a number of exhibition partner and vendor stands in the surrounding vicinity.
