Black Line Crazy Launches New Limited Edition Art Bags Line

Mary van de Wiel (aka Van), founder of Black Line Crazy (BLC), has announced the launch of her line of the same name, which includes limited edition bags and one-of-a-kind, hand-woven rugs and wall hangings featuring her paintings. Additionally, van de Wiel’s work was selected for an installation on Avenue of the Americas in New York City by And Partners which acts as ‘co-curators’ on behalf of its clients.

A former chief creative officer of her own award-winning branding agency with offices in New York and Sydney, Australia, van de Wiel has worked with countless Fortune 500 clients. At the same time, she realized she relished walking outside the line with her bold black and white graphic designs born from her love of doodling. One day in the middle of Mexico, van de Wiel picked up a brush and can of black house paint and started painting murals, collages and gallery windows—floor to ceiling. MOST IMAGINATIVE BARTENDER (MIB) COMPETITION CROWNS WINNER

Yesterday in Philadelphia (9/24), New York’s Mark Tubridy (21 Club) was crowned the Regional Winner of Bombay Sapphire’s 13th Annual Most Imaginative Bartender (MIB) Competition. Tubridy beat out other top bartenders from Orlando, New York, Savannah, Massachusetts, and Philadelphia, showcasing the artistry that goes into making an imaginative cocktail. Next month in October, Tubridy and the 11 other top mixologists from across North America will head to England – the home of Bombay Sapphire and its Laverstoke Distillery – for an immersive gin education tour before competing in the competition finals in February 2020 in Chicago. Tubridy will also compete in the Canvas Challenge, a new component of the program which will task the top 12 finalists to bring an original creative idea of any medium to life for a chance to win a $25,000 grant prize and a mentorship by a creative visionary.

Over the last two days, 12 of eastern North America’s top bartenders stirred creativity and presented their most elaborate cocktails to an esteemed panel of judges. As the regional competition came to an end, Tubridy’s “Songbird” cocktail (recipe below) was named the Most Imaginative based on flavor, appearance, presentation, and imagination. Also claiming a spot in the top 12 and advancing to the finale are Atlanta’s Keyatta Mincey-Parker (Bonton), Miami’s Derek Stilmann (The Sylvester Bar), and New Orleans’ Maggie Morgan (Bar Tonique).

Lexus Milestones

Lexus celebrated their 30-year anniversary this past July; and we couldn’t escape it. We were invited on a 3-day lifestyle activation in Costa Rica, testing both their latest vehicles along side of their precursors. Since Lexus is the leading producer of luxury hybrids, their choice of hosting this event in Costa Rica was not arbitrary. Aside from lush landscapes, the island is a place where environmentally driven initiatives and technologies thrive. The country is a leading producer of hydroelectric energy, and conserving their beautiful flora and fauna is one of their top priorities.

1. Accommodation

Our hopes were high and they were remarkably met with our arrival at the magnificent Four Seasons Hotel, located in Liberia, a jewel in the countryside of Costa Rica. The luxurious property, nicely integrated into the surrounding region was mesmerizing. Modern yet rustic decorated rooms spilt out onto the beachfront as we assembled at a welcoming reception. We were treated like loyalty with excellent service, savory bites and of course, great fellowship. With a 181 rooms, fitness center (which rivaled Equinox), day spa (complete with plunge pool, steam room and hot tub) and private beach, many of us were tempted to stay longer within the 1,400 acres of utter bliss. There was so much to explore via a biking excursion or a simple hike into neighboring jungles.

2. History of Lexus

During the conference, we learned about the history of Lexus; and their product line from 1989 to present. With the use of VR, we were teleported in time to when Toyota arrived in the US. In 1984, they launched the Circle F Project with the aim of releasing a luxury car. The challenge was to change America’s perception of the marque. For this project, Chief Engineer Ichiro Suzuki sets aggressive goals which will define the brand’s strategy and excellence down the route. With over 1400 engineers involved and 400 prototypes later, the Lexus LS was born. A sedan unlike any other. The name, originally Alexis, became Lexus, and the logo came to become this symbol of beauty and perfection with a succession of exceptional cars to accompany.

3. Meeting with Executives

We also got the privilege to sit down and shoot the breeze with some of the senior level executives of Lexus. Koichi Suga, General Manager of Lexus Design, explained to us his inspiration for adding the concierge and driver refresh, he maintains, “Our vision is human centered: what the customer wants, while focusing on our distinctive culture and heritage.” Indeed, the driver refreshes function is an imitation of shiatsu massage, and it was also our favorite feature in this newly reintroduced full-size flagship. In a discussion with Koji Sato, Vice President of Lexus International Products & Engineering, we were informed that the brand expects to issue its first EV by 2025. And he gave tongue to what gives the sedan a long-term advantage over SUV models. He states, “I think the sedan is more formal, more stylish, with a low center of gravity that provides a more emotional feel.”

4. Vehicle Drives

After being fascinated with the history of Lexus, we got to take a glimpse of and even test drive a few. The incredible LFA was on display and the RC F Sport (f/ in Men in Black: International) were definitely crowd favorites. We test drove three of their models: the LS 500h; RXL (new RX w/ third row seating) and LC 500h. The LS literally made us feel like a royal family. The sleek design, alongside a more pronounced spindle grill and a ton of driver/passenger amenities made the interior feel like nirvana. The RXL possesses a 4.4 inch longer wheel base than RX, now seats 7 and has been refined to exaggerate masculinity. Lastly, the LC 500h, spotlighted in the critically acclaimed Black Panther, was simply sublime, from its paw-like exterior to the silky ride it offers. The peaceful drive along windy roads near the rain forests was almost mysterious.

5. Adventure

On our final day, we drove to the Diamante Eco Adventure Park which is home to one of the highest zip lines in the world – approximately 80 stories high and 1 mile long from one side to the other. We strapped into the renowned Superman, headfirst while facing forward on our bellies. Within, 45 seconds or less we were tailed and ready to retrieve our rides.

In short, Lexus created an atmosphere which showcased creativity, confidence and courage. Everything was exemplified through their leaders, bold design and humanity. Here’s to another 30 years!!!

Dave East “Everyday” feat. Gunna Visual is Out

Today, meteoric Harlem rapper, model and actor Dave East – whose legendary mixtapes have amassed over one billion global streams –released the music video for “Everyday” featuring Gunna. Directed by Andrew Sandler, the menacing visual features Dave East in the midst of a high stakes poker game while switching to shots of Gunna exchanging bars with East in a dimly lit room. The 13-track mixtape gained traction behind Dave’s Def Jam debut single“Perfect” featuring Chris Brown, whose video boasts more than 40 million combined YouTube views of to date.

Paranoia: A True Story was followed up by the Paranoia 2 mixtape (January 2018), which was supported by a 10-minute short film, “The Hated.” The gritty drama centered on two childhood friends who get caught up in the street hustle that eventually lands one of them in the Rikers Island jail. Starting in 2010, he released an array of critically acclaimed mixtapes that earned him widespread recognition in the hip-hop community. His 7th mixtape, 2014’s Black Rose caught Nas by surprise, and resulted in Dave’s signing to Nas’ Mass Appeal imprint. Subsequent mixtapes Hate Me Now (2015) and Kairi Chanel (2016, named for Dave’s daughter), boasted a collective guest list topped by Nas, Styles P, Pusha T, Jadakiss, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Cam’ron, Beanie Sigel, Rico Love, and The Game, to name just a few. Kairi Chanel led off with the storytelling visual for “Keisha” followed by “Type Of Time”, with over 12 million combined YouTube views to date. After nabbing a spot on the notorious XXL Freshman Class in 2016, he jumped onto the Def Jam roster late that year. He was first heard on “Gold Digger” featuring A-Boogie, from Def Jam’s Direct Deposit Vol. 2 compilation (February 2017). Paranoia: A True Story marked Dave’s official Def Jam debut EP in August 2017 (with “Perfect” featuring Chris Brown; and “The Hated”). The Paranoia 2 mixtape followed in January 2018.

With the heat waves roasting Texas and all lower states recently, what better way to spend your weekend than going to a water park?

We got to spend a weekend there, and here is why it should be your next destination this summer.

We spent a magical weekend with a close family friend and her two kids. We got to experience a wonderful stay in one of the riverbend cabins, with a really authentic cottage-style interior design, wooden floors and walls and a gorgeous view on the Comal River. Sipping on brew, snacking on pizza and braiding each others’ hair… Couldn’t think of a better way to relax and break our busy routines. We also had fun exploring the miniature downtown area that was a walking distance to our cabin, brimming with an array of eclectic bars, restaurants and street murals.
