Behind the lens of renowned Iranian cinematographers

Time Lapse is an exhibition of striking photographs by prestigious Iranian film directors. After enormous success in both London and Tehran, the exhibition will travel to the USA in November, to be shown at The Container Yard in Downtown Los Angeles.

Time Lapse features the work of Cannes Film Festival award-winning directors Jafar Panahi and Abbas Kiarostami, Cannes Film festival award nominee Nasser Taghvai, award-winning documentary maker Kamran Shirdel, San Sebastian International Film Festival award-winning director Majid Barzegar, World Press Photo award-winning Cinematographer Seifollah Samadian and celebrated actor and Cairo film festival award-winning director Hamid Jebeli. The exhibition celebrates Iranian cinema and its international reach, and simultaneously demonstrates the talent of the directors, stretching beyond dynamic filmmaking to the creation of fine art.

CAMA Gallery aims to provide a politically neutral platform on which to showcase the wealth of artistic talent in Iran. CAMA Gallery has three galleries in Iran, a gallery in London, and will soon open a permanent space in Los Angeles.

The exhibition opens with a private view on November 2 from 8pm and runs through November 14, 2018.

MOUNTAIN with Willem Dafoe on Blu-ray 9/25

Ravishing and thrilling views from the top of the world fill MOUNTAIN, a stirring visual and musical feast documenting the daring people who ascend and traverse – by whatever means possible – the globe’s highest peaks. Narrated by Willem Dafoe and called “a ravishing feat of vertiginous filmmaking” by The Hollywood Reporter, it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from Greenwich Entertainment on September 25, 2018.

Only three centuries ago, setting out to climb a mountain would have been considered close to lunacy. Mountains were places of peril, not beauty, an upper world to be shunned, not sought out. Why do mountains now hold us spellbound, drawing us into their dominion, often at the cost of our lives?

From Tibet to Australia, Alaska to Norway, armed with drones, GoPros and helicopters, director Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa) has fashioned an astonishing symphony of mountaineers, ice climbers, free soloists, heliskiers, snowboarders, wingsuiters and parachuting mountain bikers.

Willem Dafoe provides a narration sampled from British mountaineer Robert Macfarlane’s acclaimed memoir Mountains of the Mind, and a classical score from the Australian Chamber Orchestra accompanies this majestic cinematic experience.

MOUNTAIN has received universal praise from critics and audiences alike. Michael Rechtshaffen of the Los Angeles Times called it “a unique portrait of mankind’s enduring fascination with the world’s most formidable summits.” Peter Rainer of The Christian Science Monitor said, “For those of us who would never in our wildest imaginings ride a bike off a sky-high mountain peak and then parachute to earth, I can heartily recommend the documentary, where such feats are standard.” The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern said the film “reminds us that mountains restore our wonder; more than ever we need their wildness.” Matthew Roe of Under the Radar called it “a uniquely stunning document, defined by its sublime beauty, cautious reverence, and musical resplendence.”

A popular selection at film festivals worldwide, MOUNTAIN was released by Greenwich Entertainment in top theatrical markets in 2018.

Bonus features on both the Blu-ray and DVD include a look behind the scenes and interviews with director Jennifer Peedom and Robert Macfarlane, author of Mountains of the Mind.

All the Kids are Depressed

Today, multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer, Jeremy Zucker, debuts the powerful short film for his single, “all the kids are depressed”—watch and share here. Directed by filmmaker Drew Kirsch (Felix Jaehn, blackbear, Louis the Child, Quinn XCII), the video premieres today on Buzzfeed.

Of the video, Zucker says, “For people watching this video, I hope that they feel comfort. That they’re not alone. That it’s important to talk about mental illness. That confronting the way they’re feeling and exchanging experiences can make things better, even if it’s just for a moment.”

“all the kids are depressed” is taken from Zucker’s latest EP, glisten, out now. The EP also features his single, “better off” with rising artist Chelsea Cutler. See the full tracklist below.

Before entrancing listeners across the world, 21-year-old singer, songwriter and producer Jeremy Zucker had been quietly carving out his distinct sound from a bedroom in suburban New Jersey. A self-described “social introvert,” Zucker cites Jon Bellion, blackbear, EDEN, Bon Iver and Wet among his strongest influences. In the summer of 2015, Zucker released his first official EP titled Beach Island. The project saw a small amount of success, and from there Zucker steadily began to build a dedicated fan base.

Later that year, he released a stream of singles that would eventually be packaged together as an EP titled Breathe. The project’s breakout single “Bout It” quickly garnered millions of streams as it organically spread across Soundcloud and Spotify, drawing the attention of curators and fans across the world. In 2016, Zucker released his third EP, Motions, which features “Heavy,” a song that was later remixed by the recording artist blackbear who reached out to Jeremy after stumbling across his music on Soundcloud. The remix, “Make Daddy Proud,” was released on blackbear’s latest LP Digital Druglord. In 2017, Zucker was signed with Republic Records and released his third EP, idle. The EP features his breakout hit, “talk is overrated(feat. blackbear), which has over 15 million Spotify streams to date. Further music is set for release this spring.

Poseidon Expeditions’ VR Film “Our North Pole 360” Takes Home Big Honors

unnamed.jpg

Polar cruise specialist Poseidon Expeditions recently turned its hand to filmmaking and walked with two awards from some 15 honors handed out at the 3rd Russian Fulldome Festival and Planetarium Conference 2017 held June 13-15, 2017, in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Yaroslavl, Russia.

unnamed-2Over the three-day gathering, the audience and jury viewed 50 feature films and video clips produced by creative teams from over 20 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, the United States, France, Greece, Argentina and Thailand. The conference itself assembled university lecturers, leading researchers, astronomers, fulldome producers, planetarium educators and others interested in the development and popularization of fulldome format. (According to Wikipedia, “Fulldome refers to immersive dome-based video projection environments. The dome, horizontal or tilted, is filled with real-time (interactive) or pre-rendered (linear) computer animations, live capture images, or composited environments.”)

On the festival jury were eminent Russian scientists, planetarians and fulldome lovers: Sergey Yazev, head of the Jury, Director of the ISU Observatory; Thomas Kraupe, Director of Hamburg Planetarium; Mikhail Gavrilov, Academic Secretary of the Scientific Council on Astronomy at the Russian Academy of Science; Theofanis Markopoulos, planetarium producer; Dmitry Belonozhko, Professor at the Department of Physics of Yaroslavl State University.

unnamed-3To evaluate each production jury members followed such criteria as the scientific value of the presented content, the quality of the film script and the visuals, the correspondence between the soundtrack and footage, and finally the uniqueness of the idea behind the film. Each fulldome production could be awarded the maximum of 25 points.

Poseidon Expeditions’’ 360º VR film, Our North Pole 360 took awards in the categories Best Fulldome Short Film and People’s Choice Award (short film). This state-of-the-art 360º virtual reality video experience uses pioneering techniques to share the North Pole realm with an online audience.

“Viewers can feel the strength as the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Years of Victorysmashes through thick sea ice to take you to a place few other will ever have the chance to visit. While soaring above the endless ice fields in a virtual helicopter ride viewers may be left breathless, but we hope with a yearning to join us on a cruise,” said Nikolay Saveliev, president of Poseidon Expeditions (https://poseidonexpeditions.com/).
