Four Seasons New York Downtown

Redefining Relaxation

By Vaughn Lowery

Every now and again, we all should consume some time out of our hectic lives to enjoy a stay at one of the most sought-after institutions in lower Manhattan – the Four Seasons New York Downtown [FS NY Downtown]. Since its conception three years ago, this micro-resort is poised to be an award-winning campus with offerings geared towards a more youthful clientele.

By far one of the more prestigious properties within the five boroughs, containing 189 rooms and suites. This five-star accommodation is perched in the prominent Tribeca area of downtown NYC within walking distance from an array of activities, including Brookfield Place and the conspicuous West 4th Street. Guest floors are from the 7th to 24th with the lobby, CUT by Wolfgang Puck and meeting suite on the lower levels. The swank, slim facade also incorporates a 157 private residences which are housed between the 38th to 82nd levels.

An architectural digest of diversity with symmetrical designations throughout, celebrating geometrics alongside of high-caliber appointments. It was fabricated and brought to life by design firm Yabu Pushelberg to delight the senses and erupt an emotional connectedness to its surroundings. After all, its parents are known to construct immersive environments where pedestrians can both coexist and congregate. Particular thanks to the warm tones, recessed lighting and Italian marble.

Minutes away from downtown Brooklyn and the newly bustling Jersey City neighborhoods, Four Seasons Downtown is poised to become an influential millennial safe haven for digital nomads and senior level executives alike. Staying true to the Four Seasons marquee, the degree of service coupled with attentive staff is unprecedented. This pet-friendly, modern-lux lodge possesses a 24 hr fitness center, which easily rivals an Equinox facility: kettlebells, free weights, ample high-tech machines, yoga mats, stretching area, foam rollers, group instruction and a Peloton stationary bike.

The day spa area bears Marc Jacobs collaborative merchandise, a 75-foot indoor lap pool (open daily from 6am-9pm with on-duty lifeguard) and steamroom. Within the spa lounges, there’s plenty of toiletries at your disposal for decompression: shaving kit, dental kit, shower shoes, robes, mouthwash, hair gel, deodorant spray, q-tips, disposable combs/brushes and electronic programmable lockers. Complimentary bottles of water are readily available and rose petal hydration facial mist to make you feel even more reinvigorated. And, there’s a plethora of onsite services which are offered from aromatherapy to facials.

The Barclay, Tribeca as well as Hudson suites possesses dual vanities and can hold up to 4 adults with 2 bedrooms, full bath and a half bath/powder room. Some of the suites come equipped with a butler kitchen and patio. If available, the bang for your buck are the executive suites, which contain spacious great rooms; even so, they don’t have a balcony.

With ample views of the One World Trade Center and its Oculus, the Four Seasons New York Downtown is an emerald which is certain to stimulate your heart chakra as well as drizzle positivity onto spirits. If you’re seeking a white-glove experience in a contemporary environment, then this is your spot.

5 Ways to Style a Western-Themed Outfit

A Western-themed outfit can be a fashion-statement, a piece of modern style so unique that each part of it, from the hat to the boots, looks like you designed it to fit your personality. Before you head out to line-dancing class or step out onto the runway, select a hat, jewelry, a fringed top, beautifully strong denim, and high boots meant for dancing.

Have A Hat Straight From Hollywood

If you’re looking for a hat out of your favorite Western drama or just trying to find modern Western headgear, you’re not alone. Traditional cowboy hats and other stylish vintage items like fedoras and Aussie hats look sharp and new, with not a mothball in sight.

Don’t Wear Your Grandmother’s Necklace

You may love a necklace that was passed down to you from your grandmother, but perhaps you’d also like to make one of your own. You can choose traditional earth tones, geometric shapes, and images from nature for a traditional Western beaded necklace, or you can even custom design your own beads for a modern twist.

Add Bling to a Fringed Shirt

Your Western bedazzling doesn’t have to stop at neck level. Take it on down to your waist by learning how to make your own fringed shirt. You won’t even have to buy a new shirt if you choose to do it this way. But by all means, buy new beads. They’re a main ingredient in this do-it-yourself fashion, and each one can have a personal meaning to you.

Ride Free in Beautifully-Tough Denim

The Western styling of your denim, in particular, has toughness as well as beauty. You want your jeans to hug your curves, but also give you the freedom to enjoy the dance floor or have a ride on horseback, whichever is on your agenda for the day. Sharp, solid colors can make an impression on the dance floor while showing off your belt and giving you leeway to rock the house. If short-shorts are keeping you cool in the summer, feel free to wear them out on the floor.

Blast Off With Your Boots

When you go out to the club, it’s your boots that will make the final impression, not just on your admirers, but on you. After all, the comfort and confidence you feel has a tremendous effect on transforming you from a wallflower into a Western dancer. Boots that look great on the outside, scalloped and stitched to perfection, will complete the unique outfit you composed for your special occasion. On the inside, they will support your feet so that you can remain active all night and enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Now that you’re ready for an evening of Western fun, from your new hat, to your fringed shirt, to your boots that are practically leaping off the floor on their own, you can go out with confidence. If you have time, add a pair of festive earrings, a cloth poncho, or a couple of pins in a denim jacket. Be yourself like never before by going Western.

Equinox Members Feel Bamboozled

After The Related Companies (parent company of Equinox, SoulCycle, Hudson Yards) Founder/Chairman Stephen M. Ross announced his Trump fundraiser (tickets which will cost up to $250,000) in the Hamptons, all hell broke loose – tons of memberships have been cancelled online, over the telephone and in person. After all, Ross is a ‘passive investor’ for Equinox and SoulCycle which are premier fitness centers for celebrities, political leaders and senior level executives alike whom all seem to be proactively involved within the LGBTQ+ and art communities.

Why are members so infuriated?

Many feel they were a part of a movement of societal justice and equality, not just a fitness institution since its inception twenty years ago. Fast forward to present day, Equinox has popped all over every urbane and metropolitan area’s infrastructure largely in part to real estate mogul, Ross.

Lately, the brand has announced a slew of designer duds, hotel chain and talent agency geared towards their top instructors. Today, more or less of its constituents will gather at the West Hollywood location (8590 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069) at 4PM to protest against Ross’s decision to host such a lavish engagement for one of the most ridiculed US Presidents in modern day times. A man who’s rhetoric has possibly fell upon the ears of young white supremacists like the alleged shooter at El Paso last weekend who gunned down dozens of Hispanic people at a local Walmart.

Maybe after today’s outrage, the Miami Dolphins owner, who was shunned for his actions by some of its players, will renege on tomorrow’s elaborate event. According to the LA Times, the soldout venue may raise close to 12 million dollars for Mr. Ross’s friend of over 40 years.

As of late, Equinox has announced the construction of a 20-story hotel and residential building downtown LA which is scheduled to be completed around 2021.

SAPT WORKS!

October is Depression Awareness Month, and a great time to focus on ways to overcome the blues and keep depression away. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, around 16 million adults each year experience the most common type of depression, which is Major Depressive Disorder. The disorder is characterized by having at least five of the symptoms, in which at least one of them is an overwhelming feeling of sadness or a loss of interest and pleasure in most usual activities. The good news for those who would like to keep depression at bay or who are looking to beat the blues is that they may need look no further than consistently exercising.

“Making exercise a consistent part of your life has some amazing benefits,” explains Coach Sarah Walls, personal trainer and owner of SAPT Strength & Performance Training, Inc., who is also the strength and conditioning coach for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics. “Those who engage in exercise regularly feel the difference it can make in one’s life. It can impact everything from how you see yourself to how well you sleep at night. It’s that powerful.”

Before anyone cringes and says they don’t have time to fit in exercising, it’s important to know that even a little bit can go a long way. New research published in the October 2017 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry shares details from a landmark study conducted on nearly 34,000 Norwegians. What researchers found was that even small amounts of exercise can protect against depression, regardless of age or gender. They report that sedentary lifestyles are becoming the norm around the world, and depression rates are growing. What’s more, their research showed that those who don’t exercise at all have a 44% increased chance of developing depression. They found that the mental health benefits of exercise are found within the first hour of exercise each week, showing that even giving an hour per week to exercise does a world of good.

Here are 5 ways exercise helps to beat the blues:

  1. Natural chemicals. When you exercise, your brain releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins. Those endorphins are a natural opiate-like chemical that acts as a pain reliever, reduces stress, and helps people be able to sleep better.
  2. Clears the mind. Exercising is a great way to help alleviate worries and anxiety. Those who may be worrying about something or having a difficult emotional time can engage in exercise and find they feel a lot better by the time they are done with the session.
  3. New connections. According to Harvard Medical School, exercising spurs the release of proteins called neurotrophic or growth factors, which cause nerve cells to grow and make new connections. This helps to lead to improvements in brain functioning.  The exercising supports nerve cells in the hippocampus, which helps to relieve depression.
  4. Better image. Most people who engage in exercise see a difference in the mirror and in the way their clothes fit, and they like it. The changes they see can be uplifting and give them more confidence.
  5. Weight loss. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43% of adults with depression are obese, and adults who have depression are more likely to be obese. Exercising regularly helps people lose weight and be able to better maintain a healthy weight.

“There are so many good reasons to exercise and not one good one to avoid it,” added Coach Walls. “I work with many people and I see the difference that even a little exercise per week can do for them. Get the endorphins flowing and see for yourself how great you start feeling!”

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there is a connection between breast cancer and depression. According to BreastCancer.org, those who have breast cancer may feel sad or depressed, resulting from the diagnosis, treatment, breast cancer treatments, aging, hormonal changes, or other factors. While they report that sadness is a natural part of breast cancer experience, they offer several tips for helping to address depression, including exercising.

When my husband and I started dating, he asked me to go with him to the gym to “spot” him.  Spot?! What does that even mean? Although today I am a personal trainer, back then my workout experience was limited to phys-ed in high school, and a yoga class that I went to once and hated. Danny however, was a gym regular and I was very intimidated at the idea of trying to appear like I knew anything about working out.  He obviously worked heavier weights, focused on different muscles and I was more of a cardio girl back in those days. I actually didn’t like weight lifting, but I went along because it was our time together.

I noticed that there was something different about doing a physical activity together as compared to sitting watching a movie.

Although any friend or loved one can be your swolemate, there is a double benefit if it is your significant other.  Here are just a few of the benefits:

1. It increases your emotional bond.  When you workout next to someone else, your body naturally tries to sync with the other person’s level of physical activity. As long as both people feel safe, their brainwaves, heartbeat and energy will begin to vibrate at the same frequency.

2. It makes you physically more attracted to each other. Want to appear more attractive in the eye of your honey?  The physiological effects of exercise mirror the same effects of romantic attraction: sweaty palms, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and a rush of feel-good hormones. You can use these wonderful benefits to your advantage by scheduling date night at the gym.

3. It boosts the results of your workout and improves your confidence. Because humans are social creatures, the mere act of being in the presence of someone increases your effort and ability to do an activity. You may not be doing the exact workout but his/her presence boosts your energy and you get a better workout.

Not only do Danny and I work out together regularly, we teach couples and families how to stay fit together with a program we created call the Yoke Training System. Over the years Danny and I have tried swing dancing, evening walks, traditional gym workouts and even yoga classes (yes, I went back!). We may not always like the same activity but we give it a try until we find something we enjoy and fits into our current life’s agenda. The greatest thing you can do is stop worrying about weight loss and waistline and just have fun with your special swolemate.

The requirements became even broader when Danny injured himself and was forced to give up his usual exercise routine.

After much scientific research and testing, Yokebar was born. Today, Danny and Denise train people in the Yoke Training System and also are the founders of Hi5 Produce, a leading corporate produce delivery service located in the Silicon Valley.
