Mastering the Art of Flavor

Held at Haven’s Kitchen in Chelsea, 360 MAGAZINE experienced a foodie’s dream come true at “Mastering the Art of Flavor” culinary event. Six ordinary recipes transformed featuring distinguished flavors of Holland House and NAKANO. Hosted by MasterChef finalist Cate Meade, registered dietician Mia Syn as well as food stylist Jessica Formicola.

They shared incredible resources and recipes in preparation for the holiday season. Cooking tips on how we can remain calm and stress free in the kitchen. Take it from Chef Cate, “Prep and prepare” is the ingredient to a five-star meal.

As the spokeswomen for Holland House, Cate shared her three Holiday stress-free recipes developed with cooking wine. For starters, the Spinach Feta and Artichoke Dip is the perfect dish for hosting where guests can gather and enjoy. A 1/2 cup of Holland House White cooking wine comes together for a robust bold flavor in every bite. Served best with vegetable crudité, baked pita chips and/or crackers.

The Sherry Cherry Pork Loin Roast was Cate’s showstopping dish, demonstrating that a slow cooker is an essential kitchen appliance. Cooked to perfection, the sweet but savory taste served with Sherry Cherry sauce complemented the tender meat. Layered with braised onions and roasted vegetables for hearty appetites.

Beyond her ‘easy bake oven’ years, Cate’s Flourless Chocolate Cake is a healthier option for dessert without sacrificing taste. Holland House Red cooking wine with macerated strawberries emerged in red wine added depth to the cake’s moisture. Garnished with sifted powdered sugar or cocoa powder for a sweet dusting.

Post holiday season we all desire healthier behaviors to impact our lifestyles. Mia Syn, RDN shared “Healthy Habits for the New Year.” Her recipes were inspired by Nakano, a gluten-free seasoned rice vinegar. It’s sweet light flavor dresses up any dish from salads to pasta.

Each recipe takes no more than 15 minutes to prepare. Her first recipe Chopped Chinese Chicken Salad with Sesame Dressing is light but filling. NAKANO Toasted Sesame Rice vinegar poured over salad ingredients and thinly sliced chicken breasts.

Mia’s meals include a rainbow of vegetables which are packed with nutrients. A sheet pan required with a simple toss in the oven. My favorite, the low-carb Teriyaki Chicken breasts. Bite-sized morsels surrounded with veggies and peppers cut into small florets. Drizzle NAKANO Rice Vinegar with teriyaki sauce on top and bake for 7 minutes.

Cauliflower Fried Rice is the best substitute for a starchy option; including peas, carrots, cabbage with an egg.

Jessica Formicola hosted a food styling lesson filled with tips and tricks to wow your guests and get the most social engagement through your content. Her most vital and resourceful tip is to “use what you have on hand” to elevate any five-star dish. Be sure to include the real ingredients in your dish for a relatable and approachable take.

In short, if you’re looking to get in the kitchen during the holidays, be sure to use Holland House and NAKANO products to enhance your food’s overall appearance and taste.

The Taste LA‘s 10th anniversary didn’t disappoint. Held at the legendary Paramount Studios on Gower and Melrose in Hollywood. Opening night was nothing short of whimsical. Canopy lights draped the movie lot as people pranced throughout the evening with sips and bite-sized dishes in tow. The soon-to-be iconic event is hosted by the LA Times. If you’re seeking a savory night out with influential foodies, then this is your place.

Throughout the three day experience, various restaurants rotated booths to serve small bites and spirits. 360 Magazine favorites included Castaway, McConnel’s Fine Ice Creams and RiceBox. VIP ticket holders had access to an additional plethora of wines, lounge area and a personalized wine glass crafted by Signature Hand Engraving.

Ticket prices ranged from $115 to $200 USD for a VIP experience. Passes are all-inclusive and good for unlimited food, beer, wine and spirits tastings, plus all stage activities (including cooking demonstrations). The Taste 2019 left foodies satisfied and dreaming of LA’s hottest restaurants.

The 5 Dishes You Must Try on a Spanish Holiday

While you might be longing to relax on a stunning beach, sip Sangria at an atmospheric bar, and participate in an action-packed water sport while in Spain, it’s the food you will want to stay for.

Rather than sticking to your home comforts during a getaway, you should make it your mission to sample the local cuisine, which will provide you with an insight into the nation’s culture and history.

To fall head over heels in love with the country and its food, here are the five dishes you must try on a Spanish holiday.

1. Paella

While Italy has pasta, France has souffles and German has sauerkraut, Spain has the mouth-wateringly good paella, which will make you want to up sticks and move to the country. The nation’s signature dish originates from Valencia and features white rice, runner beans, butter beans, saffron and either chicken, rabbit or seafood. It’s the perfect dish to try at any point in the year, and it is commonly eaten at lunchtime.

2. Patatas Bravas

One dish you can expect to find on most tapas menus is patatas bravas, which translates to “brave potatoes.” That’s because the cubed or shallow friend potatoes are marinated in a spicy sauce, such as garlic mayonnaise with pimiento or a spicy ketchup.

The delicious dish was created in southern Spain and is made for sharing, so you should sample other dishes alongside the Spanish staple when at a restaurant.

3. Gazpacho

Gazpacho is a tomato-based soup that is famously served cold and originates from Andalusia. While the cold texture might be a surprise to many, it can be the perfect dish to try when enjoying the glorious sunshine during holidays in Lanzarote, which is well-regarded for its year-round sunshine – so there is never a bad time to sample the staple when on the island. The flavours are sure to burst onto your tongue from the first spoonful, as it is made from tomatoes, garlic and peppers, which is served with bread and, of course, olive oil.

4. Jamón

One of the most celebrated foods in all of Spain is Jamón, which is a leg of cured ham that is salted and hung up to dry, which will preserve the meat throughout winter. While you will commonly find Jamón Serrano in most restaurants, which comes from a white pig, you will want to try Jamón Iberico that comes from black pigs and is the more expensive of the two.

Regardless of which option you choose, the delectable meat should be served in thin slices with a small amount of bread, which will ensure it melts in your mouth.

5. Churros

If you have more of a sweet tooth and want to enter foodie heaven, you should indulge in churros, which are a much-loved snack by both locals and tourists. They are made from fried dough pastry in a sausage-like shape, and they are then doused in sugar and best dipped in hot melted chocolate.

While most locals will treat themselves to churros at a fiesta or street party, holidaymakers can buy them from various roadside vendors, regardless of whether they are holidaying in the Canary Islands or a stunning Spanish city.

Brunch Life Fest

Some of the best restaurants in Long Beach, Orange County, and Los Angeles came together for the first ever Brunch Life Fest in Long Beach, CA. At the event, there were local brunch tastings, mimosas, and specialty drinks. Bottomless mimosas, beer, and brunch? What can be better than that?

This was a one-day outdoor food and entertainment festival that debuted at Long Beach’s Rainbow Lagoon Park at 400 E Shoreline Dr, Long Beach, CA. The parks turf recreational lawns, waterfront views and walkways are the draw at the traditional Japanese-style park. This event was exclusive to 21+  on August 4, 2018. with day drinking, samples, and tastings while supplies lasted.

At the event, full sized entrees and beverages were available through vendors. Agaves Kitchen, GD Bro Burger, Gourmet Blends, Padre, Drake’s Brewing, Essential Water, and Liberation Brewing were just some of the vendors at the event offering tastings and specialty drinks. Pearson Brother’s Winery provided a mimosa bar. Patrons were able to try the first grapeless wine made with wildflower honey, valencia orange, and indonesian vanilla.

Event goers enjoyed live music and entertainment from local bands, photo booths, lawn games, and other fun activities.  VIP tickets were $90 and that included open mimosas bar, bloody marys, beer tastings, brunch food samples, access to the VIP section, and cocktail bar.

General Admission tickets were $75 and that included open mimosas bar, bloody marys, beer tastings, brunch food samples, and access to merchants and vendors.

A La Carte was offered to patrons and that paid entry to the festival, and access to food vendors and merchants.

If you’re a brunch enthusiast, you’ll want to head over to the Brunch Life Festival in Long Beach on August 4.

The event was packed by mid-morning and drew in so many people in Southern California. The Brunch Life crew worked around the clock pooling funds to pay for the event and sourcing local businesses to create this fun day for patrons. There first time doing this was a success and they hope to continue to do this annually.
