Man With The Halo: Iron Again

The emotional journey back to the Ironman World Championship by the legendary three-time Olympian, former triathlon World Champion and Ironman World Record holder, Tim Don, is now unveiled in a mini-sequel to the infamous “Man with the Halo” documentary by Don’s Swiss sportswear sponsor, On, today, Thursday, December 20.

On October 13th, Tim Don adorned his competitor number for what was to be the most emotional race of his career. Reacting to the sound of the starting gun at the Ironman World Championship in Kona this year marked a triumphant achievement for the 40 year-old, whose 10-month torturous rehabilitation has reverberated throughout the athletics world as one of this year’s most remarkable stories in sports. Don’s road to recovery, since surviving a near-fatal road accident that was feared to bring a sudden end to his esteemed career just days before the Ironman World Championships in October last year, has been portrayed in a powerful 5-minute mini sequel to the infamous Man with the Halo documentary. The sequel is entitled “Man with the Halo: Iron Again” and is now available to watch on www.manwiththehalo.com.

“This is the final chapter of the compelling guts and glory story that demonstrates how pure willpower can overcome any obstacle in sport,” says Olivier Bernhard, co-founder of On, the Swiss sportswear company. “After receiving such an overwhelming response from around the world to the Man with the Halo documentary following its release in May this year, we felt obligated to complete the tale of Tim’s heroism and accomplishment in reaching his goal across the finish line at Kona this year. It was quite an emotional day for all of us and a most memorable one for Tim, his team and entire family who have lived through the unimaginable pain and suffering that Tim endured during his fight to regain pole position at the top of his sport. This sequel brings the story full circle and shows how one man can conquer all.”

On, together with Emmy award-winning director, Andrew Hinton, revealed Tim’s remarkable story in a compelling short form documentary that chronicled his courageous comeback journey prior to competing at the Ironman World Championships in Kona this year – the pinnacle race he was robbed of as a result of his road accident that broke his neck. The popular “Man with the Halo,” documentary was released in May to commemorate the 1-year Anniversary of Tim’s world record-breaking performance during the 2017 Ironman South American Championships in Florianopolis, Brazil.

The Man with the Halo: Iron Again sequel begins with Don returning to the spot where the road accident took place in Hawaii, featuring roadside commentary from Don himself, complete with flashback footage and photography of him being taken to hospital moments after it occurred. This progresses to show his rehabilitation and training in the gym while wearing the medical halo device screwed to his head. Don gives a heartfelt and unfiltered account of his pain and anguish, as he sets his sights on his comeback race at the Boston Marathon, at which he finished in just over 2:49. The story jumps to Kona in Hawaii, with excerpts of his altitude training with commentary from his coaches and footage of his friends, family and fellow athletes embracing Tim days before the competition. The sequel finishes with video of Don competing at the World Championship and his own moving commentary on the experience and personal achievement after completing the race.

“It’s been a grueling journey for the last eight months, and one I will never forget,” says Don. ”I have learned a great deal about myself this year and particularly how the mind is the most essential element in the recovery process. Knowing you have the strength and believing in yourself, above all else, is my lifelong mantra that I would love to instill in others who may have experienced similar episodes. I would like to thank my team, sponsors, friends, family and everyone who has supported me towards making my life livable again. I have my sights set firmly on Kona 2019 and it’s business as usual.”

Following his accident in October 2017, Tim suffered nearly four agonizing months at his home in Boulder, Colorado – not being able to shave, shower or dress himself. He became entirely dependent on his wife Kelly, who would often have to clean around the metal of the halo to prevent infection and reduce the swelling where the pins were screwed into his forehead. Tim was on a heavy dose of prescription painkillers that would often add to the problem with frequent vomiting. For three weeks he was upright in a chair in a corner of his living room, unable to sleep for more than 90 minutes at a time. The entire right side of his body became black from bruising and swelling with his ankles becoming swollen despite his compression socks.

Following his excruciating period of mental and physical recovery, doctors ordered the removal of Tim’s medical halo the circular metallic support structure fixed directly into his skull. This marked the start of an intense chapter of rehabilitation, fueled by a fierce determination to rebuild himself as the world’s preeminent Ironman. Tim set his sights on his first comeback race – competing at this year’s Boston Marathon in April. Almost six months to the day after the accident, Tim remarkably finished in 2 hours and 49 minutes, just five minutes more than the marathon leg of his record-setting race at the 2017 Ironman South American Championships in Brazil.

The new mini-sequel entitled “Man with the Halo: Iron Again,” chronicling Tim Don’s road to recovery and return to the ironman World Championship in Kona, is produced by On, together with Emmy award-winning director, Andrew Hinton, is now available to watch at www.ManwiththeHalo.com.

Vaeda Black

Through its sensational choreography from Tony Nominated and Emmy Winning AC Ciulla and the visual prowess of Director James Morano, Singer/Songwriter Vaeda Black has released her brand new video – “Suicide Love”! Based on her original concept, she credits Ciulla and Morano for their ability to bring her vision to life.

With the release of her latest single, “Suicide Love,” Vaeda Black takes the juxtaposition of two seemingly opposite topics and weaves them together to create a dark love story that illustrates the idea of being vulnerable and “showing yourself to another person and letting them love you.”

She says, “It actually started with a text message from my ex-boyfriend while we were together probably about a year ago. I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about, but he wrote ‘that’s called suicide, love.’ Something about those two words next to each other really struck me; they’re so different. I kept thinking it would be such an interesting way to express love, passion and deep wanting, so I wrote a song around it.” The combination of those two distinct feelings gives the song a truly unique sound and style.

The Aquabats Launch Kickstarter Campaign

TV’s punk rock superheroes The Aquabats announce the launch of a Kickstarter campaign featuring Jack Black, Weird Al Yankovic and others in a new video entitled “I Am The Aquabats!” The Emmy-winning collective is gathering a Legion of Righteous Comrades (fans new and old) to rally in support of new music and new episodes of The Aquabats! Super Show! The band has heeded the longtime call of its loyal following – and are working with them to bring it all back! Click here to join the Legion.

The Aquabats’ leader, The MC Bat Commander, explains: “We’re gathering a Legion of Righteous Comrades that believes in the importance of sharing music, adventures and pizza. Only with the help of our homies from around the world can we bring back The Aquabats! Super Show! and make awesome new music and TV for the next generation.”

The Kickstarter campaign runs for one month, from July 31 at 10am PST through September 1 at 8pm PST, featuring a new episodic adventure as The MC Bat Commander leads fans on a quest to re-assemble The Aquabats while fending off some of their oldest foes – all while releasing new rewards and special surprises! The campaign will culminate in a live, climactic concert/telethon/finale hosted by The Aquabats at The El Rey Theatre featuring special guests, last-minute surprises, and a livestream countdown for those who can’t attend in person.

The campaign has two goals: To fund the full-time return of The Aquabats, leading to the first new episodes of The Aquabats! Super Show! since 2014, and the first new studio album since 2011; and to create a groundswell of support that tells the world: in an era of over-serious superheroes and hip cynicism, it’s time for a change. It’s time for the return of The Aquabats!

Jack Black and Electric Dynamite have also signed on to the new season in an Executive Producer capacity, should the campaign be successful and the show moves into production.

The Aquabats’ comrade, Jack Black, explains: “Ever since I met the MC Bat Commander on the set of Yo Gabba Gabba, I knew we were destined to become allies. Today, I’m excited to officially join forces with The Aquabats and our Righteous Comrades around the world. Together, we can save rock and roll for the kids… and us all. This is an extremely important mission, and I hope you’ll join us.”

The team spearheading the campaign comes from notable crowdfunding campaigns like Veronica Mars, Reading Rainbow, Super Troopers 2, and Mystery Science Theater 3000.

To thank backers for their support, the campaign will offer a wide variety of exclusive rewards and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, for pledges ranging from $10 to $10,000,000. The more notable rewards include original accessories designed by long-time band collaborator and noted designer Paul Frank, on-set and on-screen experiences during the filming of Super Show’s next season, and even the creation of a private album recorded for, and owned entirely by, the backer. At the highest tier of support, The Aquabats will buy a private island, legally rename it Aquabania, and appoint the supporter to a three-year term as the island’s first “Prime Minister.”

Additionally, the Legion can support The Aquabats by completing both solo and community missions that boost The Aquabats’ signal, recruit more members to the Legion and unlock more awesome rewards and upgrades for all backers.

The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers

Oxygen Media, the destination for high-quality crime programming, dives head first into the unnerving and complex story of a small town shrouded in secrets in the six-part event series, “The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers,” beginning Saturday, August 11 at 7pm ET/PT with a two-hour premiere. This is the third installment of the hit “Disappearance of…” franchise, following the previous cases of Natalee Holloway and Maura Murray. What begins as an exploration into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Crystal Rogers, a mother of five vanishing from the tiny town of Bardstown, Kentucky, quickly spirals into the dissection of multiple unsolved homicides haunting this idyllic, heartland community. Presumed dead and the victim of foul play, it has been over two years and there have been no arrests made in Crystal’s case. Additionally, Crystal’s father, Tommy Ballard, who was conducting his own 16-month investigation into his daughter’s disappearance, was shot down and died, leaving a box of clues behind. This series will follow Emmy Award-nominated reporter Stephanie Bauer and veteran homicide detective Dwayne Stanton, who has worked on celebrity cases and more than 750 homicide investigations, as they relentlessly unearth new leads, insights and information. For a sneak peek, visit https://www.oxygen.com/the-disappearance-of-crystal-rogers/season-1/videos/the-disappearance-of-crystal-rogers-premieres.

Stephanie and Dwayne recruit several experts to help dig deep into the mysterious and potentially connected unsolved crimes in Bardstown. Together, they’ll draw on Dwayne’s many years of hard earned experience, Stephanie’s relentless quest for answers and the many clues that Tommy Ballard left behind when his investigation was suddenly and violently cut short. Additionally, they’ll need to tread carefully so as not to interfere with the open investigation being conducted by the Kentucky State Police. The authorities acknowledge that having so many unsolved crimes in such a small town is atypical; the question remains, what secrets lie just underneath in Bardstown?
