DENZEL CURRY × GLASS ANIMALS

Hot off the heels of releasing their recent collaboration “Tokyo Drifting” feat. Denzel Curry, Glass Animals drops the video for their latest single today. “Tokyo Drifting” is part of the band’s Fresh Fruit series of collaborations. The video was directed by rubberband and shot in Yonkers, New York.

On the inspiration behind the video, rubberband says, “We were inspired by a variety of things: the handmade nature of Iza Genzken’s collage work, 90’s video games, 80’s comic books. We sort of filtered all this through the lens of the myth of the Minotaur. The video was shot in Yonkers at an abandoned Catholic school (I’m sure the church would be thrilled). We really wish the toilets had worked…”
They continue, saying, “Mostly, we just wanted to make something that felt different. Post was a lot like playing jazz, we experimented with a wide variety of different animation techniques and titling. In the end, Dave put a lot of trust in us and we are very grateful for that.”

The single has already received widespread critical acclaim from Billboard, The FADER, HYPEBEAST, Genius, E! News, Consequence Of Sound, HotNewHipHop and many more, with Billboard proclaiming, “Glass Animals are back, and in case you were wondering: they’ve “still got it”” and E! News hailing the song as “a sign of good things to come.”

Glass Animals is a British four-piece project led by singer, songwriter and producer Dave Bayley with his bandmates and childhood friends Joe Seaward, Ed Irwin-Singer and Drew Macfarlane. Their second album How To Be A Human Being was one of the most critically acclaimed and widely adored records of 2016 and went on to be nominated for the Mercury Album Of The Year Award in 2017. As well as producing both ZABA and How to be a Human Being, Dave has worked with a number of artists outside of the band, including 6lack, Khalid, Joey Bada$$, DJ Dahi, Flume and MorMor.

Last month, Glass Animals played a surprise show at Oxford’s The Bullingdon, which (unsurprisingly) sold out in 37 seconds. Stay tuned for more live plans from Glass Animals in the new year…

Cardi B, Jorja Smith and MØ to play Roskilde Festival 2019

More than 180 music acts will play Roskilde Festival 2019. The Cure, Robyn, Travis Scott, Christine and the Queens, Tears for Fears and many more have already been announced, and they will be joined by 28 new artists from five different continents.

The queen of hip-hop
Straight out of the Bronx, 26-year-old Cardi B is set to headline Northern Europe’s biggest festival. The undisputed queen of hip-hop is responsible for chart-topping singles including Bodak Yellow and I Like It from her debut blockbuster album Invasion of Privacy. With seven Grammy nominations to her name, she is the first female rapper in 19 years to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the first ever to have three singles in the top 10 at the same time.

English R&B and pop revelation Jorja Smith is also heading for the stars: Having won the Critics’ Choice at the Brit Awards, Jorja Smith finally released her acclaimed debut album Lost & Found last year. The 21-year-old has worked with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Kali Uchis and Stormzy, and it is no surprise that she is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammys.

Early in her career, Danish superstar  enjoyed a breakthrough on Roskilde Festival’s talent stage. Off the back of her new album Forever Neverland, the Dane is ready to conquer the iconic Orange Stage once again.

Head of programme Anders Wahrén says:
“Cardi B, Jorja Smith and MØ are very different artists, but they’re all bonafide stars. From hip-hop to R&B to pop, they’re shaping the musical landscape, and we can’t wait to see them triumph at Roskilde Festival 2019.”

Bring Me the Horizon are back at Roskilde, this time for a rock lesson on the main stage. Reinvigorated stoner hip-hoppers Cypress Hill are also ready for a triumphant return, 23 years after their last visit, off the back of acclaimed new album Elephants On Acid.

All hail the songwriters of the future
Australian artist Stella Donnelly is one of the most hyped songwriters out there despite not yet having released a full album. Tackling very difficult subjects, her razor-sharp lyrics are personal and brutally honest. Julien Baker, equally, deals with tough issues such as sexuality and self-doubt. She is also part of the alternative supergroup boygenius together with Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. The latter is also announced today, having released one of the most praised indie rock albums of 2018, Historian.

Virtually unknown outside of London, teenage quartet Black Midi are deemed the next big thing in the UK: Fans of math-rock and noise will have plenty to look forward to here. Plus there’s more from Sophie, Khruangbin, Girlpool and many more.

Roskilde Festival 2019 will be full of talents, and this is reflected in the festival’s Art Zone as well. Danish artists Alexander Tillegreen, Biba Fibiger and Ida Sønder Thorhauge are among the first to be announced for the arts programme along with acclaimed Brazilian artist Assume Vivid Astro Focus who will build a colourful, psychedelic stage in the Art Zone.

XXXTENTACION

Tens of thousands of fans, friends, and family touched by the everlasting light of Jahseh Onfroy a.k.a. XXXTentacion congregated at Florida Panthers Stadium in Sunrise, FL to commemorate his life and celebrate the legacy he built earlier today.

Planned by his mom, the public viewing and fan memorial allowed audiences to pay their respects to the multiplatinum game-changing artist together and do so in harmony. A moving tribute video created by Justin Staple, Quinton Dominguez, and Tyler Benz [Vice/Noisey] played for the capacity crowd during the proceedings as XXXTentacion’s music played inside and out of the stadium. Various celebrity VIPs attended, including Lil Yachty, Ugly God, Denzel Curry, Skai Jackson, Lil Uzi Vert, Adam 22 and more. Fans also left thousands of messages on commutative poster boards. XXXTentacion’s tribute video and images from the memorial can be found below.

This represents the culmination of a week of memorials across the country by fans everywhere. Beyond an outpouring of social media support from Kanye West, Diddy, J. Cole, Big Sean, and more, Academy® Award winner Jamie Foxx took to the stage at the BET Awards to deliver a moving message in remembrance. Longtime friend and collaborator Ski Mask The Slump God donned a mask in honor as further tributes poured in from the ceremony courtesy of actor Christian Keyes, Desiigner, and many others. Meanwhile, Meek Mill sported an XXXTentacion shirt during his much talked-about performance of the new single “Stay Woke.”

At the same time, XXXTentacion’s multiplatinum single “SAD!” from the chart-dominating ? ascended to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as if forever cementing his impact. Leaping from #52 to #1, the song becomes “the first posthumous #1 for a lead soloist since The Notorious B.I.G.’s ‘Mo Money Mo Problems in 1997,” according to Billboard. Eight other tracks hold spots in the Hot 100 such as “Moonlight” at #16, “Changes” at #18, “Jocelyn Flores” at #19, “FK Love” [feat. Trippie Redd] at #28, “Everybody Dies In Their Nightmares” at #42, “The Remedy for a Broke Heart (Why Am I So in Love)” at #58, “Hope” at #80, and “Numb” at #82. At Spotify, “SAD!” crushed Taylor Swift’s record for “Most Streams in a Single Day” and generated over 10.1 million in less than 24 hours.

XXXTentacion remains the voice of his generation, and that voice will live on forever.

Having spent the first half of 2017 releasing tracks and installments from No Escape Out Of Time, London based quartet RITUAL today unveil the full project, available via Astralwerks HERE. A stellar collection of tracks complemented by a short film from Jackson Ducasse, the ice-cool pop of RITUAL and sharp cinematics of Ducasse combine beautifully to create a wonderful audio/ visual experience. Speaking on the film, director Jackson Ducasse states:

“No Escape Out Of Time’ is the culmination of a two year collaboration with RITUAL, a project that has enabled each of us to develop and manifest themes and ideas that have fascinated each of us for some time. I had been watching Films like La Jetee, Solaris and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Each of these films deal with memory loss and play with time in unusual and inventive ways- this inspired me and the band hugely. Not only that but we were all getting a bit sick of the average music video – girl and guy having a lovely time in a beautiful location – we wanted to turn that on its head and present a nightmarish inversion of that template. I would like to think that we managed to bring all of those ideas together in an interesting way.

For me as a director it’s the biggest and most ambitious project I’ve been a part of and something I’m incredibly proud to have been involved in.”
Speaking on the No Escape Out Of Time project, RITUAL explain:

“The ‘No Escape Out Of Time’ visual project was something that really developed after we had written the song “Drown The Lovers.” We are big film fans and have always been obsessed with the screenplays and work of Charlie Kaufman.

His take on themes of memory, time and love in ‘Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind’ especially really interested us when we were talking about a visual exploration of the lyrics in “Drown The Lovers.” The film and the songs on the project as a whole explore the ideas of the lifespan of a relationship, something that can start so pure and beautiful but can end so bitterly. From “Real Feels” through to “Better By Now” there is a journey that is ultimately summed up best by the chorus ‘It Wouldn’t Be Love, if it didn’t hurt nobody.'”

Earning the acclaim of the likes of Zane Lowe, FADER, NME and Noisey for their dark brand of pop, No Escape Out Of Time serves as the next step from RITUAL, who penned the Dua Lipa hit “Hotter Than Hell.” Stream the project in full here via Astralwerks: https://ritual.lnk.to/NEOOTPR
