The ‘Best Car in the World’ raised the bar of luxury with the introduction of the new Rolls-Royce ‘Architecture of Luxury’ which delivers the ‘magic carpet ride’, defining Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Cullinan marks its second year at Pebble Beach with some of the most extensive Bespoke designs of in the ‘Pebble Beach 2019 Collection.’  The four vehicles on display during the week feature colors including, Burnout Grey, Black Green, Iced Gunmetal and Galilea Blue.  The iced finish showcases one of the most popular innovations in surface finishes from the paint specialists at Rolls-Royce.  The subtle finish offers the solid effect of matte colors with an elegant shine.  Color finish innovations are nothing new to a design group that has built finishes using glass, silver, gold and even diamonds for Bespoke commissions.

The ‘Pebble Beach 2019 Pastel Collection’ – Black Badge goes beyond Black

Following recent years of alternating drought, fire and rain, the Monterey Peninsula this year is awash in seas of colorful wildflowers. Highlighting this year’s debuts are a trio of Bespoke motor cars showcasing the creative color capabilities of the Bespoke designers in Goodwood, Home of Rolls-Royce. The Pastel Collection draws upon painter’s palette of colors this year’s ‘wildflower superbloom’ on the Monterey Peninsula. The collection includes three one-of-one Black Badge Commissions adding new colors to the Rolls-Royce Bespoke palate and reaffirming the idea that Black Badge Rolls-Royce don’t have to be black.

The collection starts with Black Badge Ghost in Light Green Solid, a new Bespoke exterior Finish. The pastel green represents the rebirth of the flora on the peninsula following the years of drought and fire.  The hand-crafted leather interior is Black with a striking Serenity Green splash highlighting the iconic Black Badge technical fiber.

The drophead creation among the collection is Black Badge Dawn in Coral Solid which showcases the Bespoke finish that can only come after seven coats of paint and more than 9 hours of hand polishing in the Goodwood paint workshop.  The new pastel color carries over to the Bespoke aero cowling giving the Dawn a colorful yet aggressive exterior. The Black Badge Dawn interior is finished in Artic White and Sunset carrying over the visual imagery of the blooming northern California hills and valleys.

The final piece of the trio is Black Badge Wraith in Semaphore Yellow, a bright and sunny finish for the most powerful member of the Rolls-Royce family.  Black Badge Wraith features a Selby Grey and Lemon interior with the iconic Rolls-Royce Black Badge Starlight Headliner.  The ‘Roll-Royce 2019 Pastel Collection’ presents Black Badge unlike you’ve ever seen before.

This collection showcases the alter ego of Rolls-Royce Bespoke as the brand highlights the potential of its Black Badge Bespoke offer. The combined skills of the Bespoke craftspeople from the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England, and the rebellious spirit of Black Badge has propelled the brand into the 21st century appealing to the risk-taker who is not afraid to embrace a bold and progressive statement of true and modern luxury, in an aggressive form. SILICON VALLEY × BESPOKE ROLLS-ROYCE

SILICON VALLEY TECH EXECUTIVE TAKES DELIVERY OF BESPOKE ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN BLACK BADGE AT PEBBLE BEACH

Benjamin Treynor Sloss, Vice President of Engineering at Google and a well-known car enthusiast, has taken delivery of a very personal Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Presented to him at the Rolls-Royce Collectors Cocktail Reception on Saturday night by Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce, this stunningly contemporary Dawn Black Badge was created in collaboration with the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective in Goodwood, England in the Slosses’ personal livery.

“Our Rolls-Royce story began here at Pebble Beach in 2014 when we were looking for a two-door coupe with four useable seats for adults,” comments Ben Sloss. “Brands such as Aston Martin or Bentley do not offer anything suitable. When we saw the Rolls-Royce Wraith, we loved the style and elegance of the coupe, and when we took it for test drive we were impressed (really, startled) by how well it accelerated and handled, in addition to the sublime ride quality and materials we already associated with the Rolls-Royce brand. The Wraith offered a unique combination of luxury car experience and sports car performance, and we fell in love with it on the spot.”

Ben’s wife Christine subsequently bought a Rolls-Royce Dawn, a motor-car that has become her daily driver. “You can tell which are the favourite cars in our family by the mileage they have on them,” comments Mrs. Christine Sloss. “My Dawn has over 13,000 miles on the clock, because both Ben and I drive it regularly, and we enjoy its open-air experience so much that Ben decided he wanted one too.”

“Christine and I are both gentleman… err, gentleperson racing drivers, competing in endurance races in GT racing cars, and many of our street cars are two-seater supercars with a very distinctive and personal livery,” continues Ben Sloss. “Michael Fux showed me that Rolls-Royce’s craftspeople could create completely personal, outrageous but beautiful colour schemes, and when I heard about the sportier Dawn Black Badge, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to commission a very personal Rolls-Royce.”

“The Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge is the most uncompromising expression of open-top luxury in the world, and Ben’s personal vision has demonstrated that Black Badge Rolls-Royces can be some of the most beautiful statements of automotive power on the road today,” commented Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce on presenting the car to Mr. Sloss.

The Ben Sloss Dawn Black Badge

Through the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Los Gatos dealership, Ben Sloss worked closely with the Bespoke Collective at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood to realize his vision for his perfect personal Rolls-Royce. His motor-racing pursuits led him to the more driver-focused Dawn Black Badge as the canvas for his vision, a reinterpretation of the livery on the couple’s racing cars.

“Our racing cars carry the colors of the flag of Modena in Northern Italy. I wanted to see what Rolls-Royce could do with those same colors,” comments Mr. Sloss. “The first time I saw the livery the Rolls-Royce team had created for the Dawn, I burst out with ‘O my God, that’s unreal — I love it!!’ It’s outrageous, it’s over the top… it’s perfect. I still grin every time I see it.”

The Bespoke Collective set to work reinterpreting the colour scheme into Rolls-Royce design language, creating two new bespoke paint colours for the exterior of his Dawn Black Badge. The intense deep yellow that adorns the main bodywork has been named ‘Superflare’ due to its radiance under the California sun, whilst it is contrasted with the darkest of navy blues named Pikes Peak Blue due to Mr. Sloss’ interest in the king of timed hill climbs. A further flash of Superflare yellow offsets the black of the 21” carbon fibre and aluminium wheel.

The same color scheme is continued throughout the interior of Mr. Sloss’ Dawn Black Badge, with the seats, dashboard, tonneau cover and rear seat waterfall clad in Navy Blue leathers, highlighted with Bright Yellow seat piping, stitched RR headrest logos and unique to Black Badge model infinity logo between the rear seats. The yellow theme continues in the cabin with a yellow flash along the door interiors, two-tone Navy Blue and Bright Yellow steering wheel and an exclusively developed Bright Yellow pinstripe applied to the Piano Milori Blue wood dashboard, the first use of Milori Blue outside the one-off customer Phantom, ‘Whispered Muse’, shown at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Mr Sloss’ Dawn Black Badge is finished with a Navy Blue leather-clad Aero Cowling enclosing the rear seats.

ROLLS-ROYCE × MICHAEL FUX

Today at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars marked a very special delivery to car collector Michael Fux. With the arrival of his tenth Bespoke commission in as many years, Mr. Fux added another Bespoke color to his personal collection. His Rolls-Royce ‘Phantom in Fuxia’ was unveiled by Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars during the Monterey Car Week festivities. The Phantom Extended Wheelbase with a stunning exterior Fux Intense Fuxia Pearl, marked the seventh unique color named and reserved exclusively for Mr. Fux.

The Intense Fuxia Pearl exterior finish features a special pearl paint mixed with flakes of Fux Fuxia in seven layers, hand polished to a deep lustrous sheen with a glimmer of bright ‘Fuxia’. The interior of the Phantom Extended Wheelbase is trimmed is Fuxia and Arctic White trim making the ultra-luxurious individual seating configuration lavish and bright. The front compartment features an all-new Gallery, ‘Regatta Sails’ done in Bespoke Fuxia.

Mr. Fux’s Rolls-Royces are the highlight of his collection including over 140 of the world’s most unique and colorful motor cars. Arriving in the United States as a Cuban immigrant as a child, Mr. Fux built a series of successful businesses in the bedding and linen industry. Today, he strives to give something back to the communities he has worked in. Since establishing the Michael Fux foundation in 2006, he has donated millions of dollars to enrich the lives of children stricken with serious illnesses. In addition to building the Fux Family Center at the Miami Children’s hospital, Mr. Fux and his wife Gloria hold multiple events each year to sustain the center and entertain the children. The colorful collection of cars are used at fundraisers to raise money to benefit the needy.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has dozens of colors reserved for numerous clients around the globe. Among the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars he has commissioned, Mr. Fux ‘owns’ nine Bespoke colors, more than any other patron of the brand.  These colors can only by used by or with the permission of the client.

·       Fux Fuxia Pearl (Phantom)

·       Fux Fuxia (Dawn)

·       Fux Blue Candy (Dawn)

·       Fux Intense Jade Pearl (Phantom)

·       Fux Aequus Green Jade Pearl (Wraith)

·       Fux White (Ghost)

·       Fux Purple Candy (Phantom Drophead Coupe)

·       Fux Red Candy (Phantom Drophead Coupe)

·       Fux Yellow (Phantom Drophead Coupe)

Every day Rolls-Royce’s craftspeople and designers create unique, one-of-kind Bespoke commissions. A Bespoke color is only one of the many hundreds of features offered in Goodwood, Home of Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce Monterey Car Week

“Monterey Car Week is one of the world’s premier luxury motor car events, so it is fitting that we showcase the finest Bespoke motor cars in the world here, and also debut Cullinan, the Rolls-Royce of SUVs, to the American public. From the primacy of Phantom to the power of Cullinan, the Rolls-Royce presence at 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has never been more compelling, and these Bespoke Rolls-Royces will grace these lawns as classics for generations to come.” … Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan makes its American debut to the public at this year’s Monterey Car Week as the marque showcases a stunning array of Bespoke motor cars, each one a classic in the making. In addition to Cullinan, the Rolls-Royce of SUVs, the brand will present a splendid selection of individual creations at events throughout the week and deliver two very high profile commissions to their owners, live at events throughout the week.

Cullinan – the Rolls-Royce of SUVs debuts to its American public

The most anticipated motor car of 2018 will adorn the lawns at Monterey Car Week events including Friday’s ‘Quail, A Motorsports Gathering,’ The Concept Lawn of the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance on Sunday and at Rolls-Royce’s own private collectors events throughout the week.

Unveiled to the world in May of this year, four Cullinans will be positioned around the peninsula in a variety of color and Bespoke configurations for its future customers to discover. Rolls-Royce will show for the first time in North America a Cullinan with Iguazu Blue exterior. The stunning Charles Blue interior is offset with Scivaro Grey highlights and open Paldao veneer. The other Cullinans on display are adorned in Magma Red and Darkest Tungsten.

A tenth Bespoke creation for collector Michael Fux

On Friday, Mr. Müller-Ötvös will present a very special Rolls-Royce Phantom to renowned collector Michael Fux. This is the tenth special Bespoke Creation presented to Mr. Fux at Pebble Beach for his collection of more than 140 unique motor cars. The Phantom joins Mr. Fux’s collection of motor cars that he uses to help raise funds for his charity, The Michael Fux Foundation, to provide support for children and their families at the Miami Children’s Hospital.

Black Badge Bespoke – The alter ego of Rolls-Royce personalization

This year’s Pebble Beach will play host to the alter ego of Rolls-Royce Bespoke as the marque demonstrates the breadth of its Black Badge Bespoke offer. Proving that a Black Badge Rolls-Royce need not only be black in color, four different Collections will move through the Black Badge color spectrum: The Umbra Collection; Adamas Collection; The Paradisio Collection and The Nebula Collection.

Fusing the extraordinary competence of the Bespoke craftspeople from the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England, with the rebellious spirit of Black Badge is for the risk-taker who is not afraid to embrace a bold and progressive statement of true and modern luxury, in its darkest form.

Umbra Black Badge Collection – Dawn, Ghost and Wraith

Black Badge Umbra, the extreme embodiment of the eponymous darker side of Rolls-Royce debuts this week at the Rolls-Royce Villa at Pebble Beach. The Umbra Collection comprises Dawn, Ghost and Wraith, and feature Matte Black exterior finish, fully darkened chrome including a darkened Spirit of Ecstasy and 21 inch carbon alloy wheels. The Anthracite interior is starkly offset with Mugello Red and Black highlights. All three commissions feature a stunning technical fiber fascia and interior accents as well as custom Black Badge Bespoke Starlight Headliners and Bespoke ‘Pebble Beach 2018’ treadplates.

Dawn Black Badge Adamas Collection

Dawn Black Badge Adamas is another creation from the darker side of the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective. Inspired by the ‘untamable’ and ‘invincible’ nature of a diamond, Adamas celebrates the darker side of contemporary craftsmanship, expertly weaving a dark aesthetic of unbreakable carbon structures into an extremely limited collection of only 30 Dawn Black Badge cars. Dawn Black Badge Adamas is clothed in an enticing two-tone color scheme of hypnotic Aphrodite Red over Black. These are the first two-tone Black Badge cars. These colors, as though touched by darkness, have a deep color transition, providing a mesmerizing iridescent effect.

The Spirit of Ecstasy, previously cast in steel, silver and gold, is for the first time in history formed in machined carbon fiber. 88 Bespoke laboratory-grown diamonds form the Black Badge infinity symbol set beneath the Bespoke analogue clock. As a final touch, when one enters or alights from the atmospheric cabin of Adamas, illuminated tread plates read ‘Black Badge Dawn Adamas – One of Thirty’, reminding the occupant of the power and rarity of this Collection.

The Paradisio Collection – Dawn, Ghost and Wraith

Turning up the color spectrum, the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective has specially created the boldest Black Badge Collection ever imagined for this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Paradisio Collection of one Dawn, one Ghost and one Wraith features a newly-developed solid exterior paint called Pebble Paradiso Blue, inspired by the location of The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and its beautiful blue surroundings of water and clear Californian sky. These cars are also reminiscent of the exploits of those adventurers who partook in the 1913 Alpenfahrt driving such classic Rolls-Royces as the James Radley 1913 Silver Ghost with its solid blue paintwork. The exterior is offset by a mandarin coach line, twin bonnet pinstripes and pinstripes on the wheel-centers.

The interiors of the three cars vary in design. Ghost, which is more focused on the rear passenger’s comfort, reflects this visually with a more intimate and cool Black and Charles Blue leather color-way off set by Charles Blue and Mandarin stitching and a Black and Charles Blue two-tone steering wheel. Wraith and Dawn add more Mandarin into the interior color palate, increasing the visual heat and driver’s intent of the cockpit.

The centerpiece of the Black Badge cabin is the aerospace-grade aluminum-threaded carbon fiber composite surfacing – material often seen on the surfaces of stealth aircraft. This futuristic material has been reinterpreted at Goodwood to become the world’s most innovative new super-luxury material. Polished to a high sheen, this surface reflects the twinkling lights of the beautifully created Starlight Headliner wrought in Ghost and Wraith and the stars firmament once the Mandarin hood of Dawn is folded away.

Nebula Collection – Dawn, Ghost and Wraith

Nebula is a suite of Black Badge Ghost, Wraith and Dawn motor cars which draw influence from spacecraft and aerospace technology, drawing visual references from technical spacecraft to the soaring vistas of the earth’s atmosphere, whilst paying homage to the pioneers of the 20th century and challenges the space and technology entrepreneurs of the 21st century. Men and women who push the technology envelope to explore space, honor the pioneers of land and space flight from Charles Rolls to the elite brotherhood of astronauts.

The exterior is enveloped in Iced Selby Grey, a flat grey hue, reminiscent of the ultra matt aesthetic of the heat shields of great, technical, space craft themselves. Inside, the interior colorway features Selby Grey and Black leather, offset against high contrast Sunset accents in the format of a two tone steering wheel, piping and stitching. The contrast masterfully imbues the impression of color imparted by a space shuttle fuel tank. This is perfectly offset against a technical fiber fascia, a sought-after aesthetic found in many Black Badge motor cars.

The Rolls-Royce clock embodies the Nebula theme in miniature. A depiction of a portion of the night sky in the Northern Hemisphere in March are backlit on the clock’s face, encircled in the accent ‘Sunset’ color, providing the impression of viewing the stars through the window of a space craft.

A repeated hexagonal motif has been expertly embroidered into the rear of each motor car, reflective of the honeycomb structure used in some of the most ambitious and technologically advanced aerospace developments, from space telescope mirrors to space station windows. Speaker covers most commonly bestow a jewelry-like impression on the interior of a Rolls-Royce, however in this iteration, they have adopted a blackened aesthetic, to further the technical feel once more.

SG LEWIS RELEASES ‘DUSK’

Songwriter and producer SG Lewis shares ‘Dusk’. The 6-track release is the first chapter of his three-part dedication to club music: ‘Dusk, Dark, Dawn’ and is available to buy and stream now via all partners.

Presented over three phases, ‘Dusk, Dark, Dawn’ maps the trajectory of one night out over the course of an album, matching genres and tempos different stages of that night, beginning at sun-down, both inside and outside the club. On ‘Dusk’, SG Lewis plays with disco, west coast hip-hop and 80’s electro references to start the story. “Disco has always had the association of the start of a night for me. I spent a lot a time as a resident DJ in clubs and disco was always that magnetic genre, always brought people onto the dancefloor.” Lead single ‘Aura’ blends SG’s signature warm, uptempo house with disco inflections. “There’s an undeniable beauty to this part of the night. The apprehension, excitement… ‘Dusk’ is the warm-up for the heavier, darker things to come.”

The 6-track release includes features with J Warner and Kartell (Roche Musique) and will be released in full on April 6th via Casablanca/Republic Records. The project will soon segue into ‘Dark’ – a phase dedicated to harder, post-midnight club music styles like techno and hip-hop – and finally ‘Dawn’, dedicated to euphoria and chillout. PMR-signed songwriter and producer SG Lewis today shares his new single ‘Aura’. The single is taken from his expansive new project: a three-part album due to roll out over the coming year. ‘Aura’ features rising UK songwriter J Warner and is available to buy and stream now on all partners.

“Everything I do stems from club culture,” says SG Lewis of the idea behind his upcoming three-part project. “Dusk, Dark, Dawn is about taking the intentions of that music – all of those feelings, those experiences I had from the age of 17 to 19 – and placing them outside of the context of a club. Those memories of being a young person and having my mind completely blown.”

Presented over three phases, ‘Dusk, Dark, Dawn’ maps the trajectory of one night out over the course of an album, matching genres and tempos different stages of that night, beginning at sun-down, both inside and outside the club. In the first phase ‘Dusk’, SG Lewis plays with disco, west coast hip-hop and 80’s electro references to start the story. “Disco has always had the association of the start of a night for me. The apprehension, excitement… ‘Dusk’ is the warm-up for the heavier, darker things to come.”

SG Lewis will tour a four-date run across the UK in April, playing in Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and London. Full details follow.

More about RR.

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce tops the list, featured in 11 different tunes by such artists as Future, The Weeknd, and Kodak Black. Ferrari is a close second. Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Bentley, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche each get touts in several songs. Among non-car shout-outs, old standbys Hennessy cognac and Nike’s Air Jordan sneaker label got the most. We also found that it’s not just alcohol, guns, clothing, and super luxury making it into songs anymore—software, cookware, and even Band-Aids are making the grade.

As far as the song including the most name-checks, the crown goes to “Bad and Boujee” by hip-hop group Migos, which climbed all the way to the No. 1 spot on the charts early this year. It includes 19 brand mentions, from Instagram and Klout to Segway scooters and, um, Crock-Pot slow cookers. Car references are sprinkled throughout the song, too. They rap about a “lamb” and a “frog,” nods to Lamborghini and Porsche. There’s also a reference to the Ferrari 458 Spider, a drop-top convertible that costs more than a quarter-million dollars. The Rolls-Royce Ghost gets some attention as well.

The obvious question when musicians mention obscure brands is, are they getting paid? Sometimes they do. As with television shows and feature films, brands like to insert themselves into pop culture, and music is no different. Dozens of music videos show off stuff from Beats, the Jimmy Iovine/Dr. Dre headphones brand owned by Apple Inc. The item appears in several of Lady Gaga’s music videos, from her breakout hit “Just Dance” to “Poker Face” and “Telephone.” Beats Pill speakers, meanwhile, are clearly visible in videos from Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Nicki Minaj.

It’s often unclear what’s a paid placement and what’s not, however, since artists generally don’t disclose the deals. No, Drake wasn’t paid by Rolls-Royce to include the Wraith in “Portland,” or its bigger and pricier cousin, the Phantom, in “Jumpman,” according to the manufacturer. But Chris Brown’s 2008 hit “Forever,” which featured the line “double your pleasure,” turned out to be an extended version of a chewing gum jingle for Wrigley’s Doublemint.

There’s a middle ground, however. Rolls-Royce, for example, will sometimes provide cars to be featured in music videos, said company spokesman Gerry Spahn. When someone uses the car as a shorthand for luxury, it helps the brand, he said. And besides, celebrities and musicians make up about 20 percent of the automaker’s customers, so it has the potential to be a sales strategy, too.

The $400,000 Phantom is Rolls-Royce’s signature vehicle, but the company has attracted much hype for three other models it’s released since 2009: the Ghost, Wraith, and Dawn. All have garnered song mentions, with the Wraith topping the tally with four.
While parent company BMW AG keeps close tabs on the Rolls-Royce brand, Spahn said they’re more than happy for the exposure. Last year, Rolls-Royce had its second-highest sales numbers ever, delivering more than 4,000 cars to wealthy customers around the world. Even if the car’s desirability increased, production constraints limit the company to a maximum of 6,000 cars a year, said a person with knowledge of its operations.

DAWN BLACK BADGE

….the engineering substance that leads to more spirited driving is accentuated by the creation of an entirely new exhaust system, that when deployed by the press of the ‘low’ button, celebrates Rolls-Royce’s hallmark V12 engine with a menacing bass baritone, announcing its arrival with authority rather than hysteria.

THE NEXT CHAPTER OF THE BLACK BADGE STORY DAWNS AT THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, Rolls-Royce presented a truly transformative moment on the luxury landscape – the introduction of a permanent Bespoke family of motor cars called Black Badge, designed in response to the differing lifestyle requirements of a younger, more dynamic patron of luxury.

Since its introduction, Black Badge has done much to attract a new generation of Rolls-Royce customers to the marque. As a result of overwhelmingly positive customer demand for Ghost Black Badge and Wraith Black Badge, the time is now right to add a new chapter to the Black Badge story.

The 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed will celebrate machines so beyond measurable limitations, they have changed the landscape in which they operate – an entirely fitting stage on which the third chapter in this truly transformative story can unfurl – the global debut of Dawn Black Badge, the most uncompromising expression of open-top luxury in the world.

The Black Badge story

Since it was launched in 2016, Black Badge has become the most commanding presence on the super-luxury landscape. Its authentic Bespoke engineering and design approach has answered the demands of those customers who have said “Build us a Rolls-Royce like no other”.

Black Badge is Rolls-Royce’s response to a small and select group of clients who have asked the marque for motor cars with specific, focused characteristics that reflect their different take on life, success and the luxury they consume. These people choose to define themselves differently from their wider social group; a subset within a subset.

It is this indomitable spirit that, since the launch of Black Badge, has captivated so many of today’s young owners, who are drawn to Rolls-Royce in the knowledge that no other luxury house is possessed of the vision and flexibility to meet their demands both in design and engineering terms. Indeed, Black Badge serves to amplify the inherent characteristics that have driven so many new, younger patrons of luxury to the marque.

In conceiving Black Badge versions of Wraith, Ghost and now Dawn, the marque’s Bespoke designers and engineers drew upon their instinctive understanding of the unique lives of these extraordinary men and women to create both design and engineering treatments that perfectly amplify the inherent values of these great Rolls-Royces.

Dawn Black Badge

Created to satisfy overwhelming demand from a new breed of Rolls-Royce patrons, Dawn Black Badge stands as the most luxurious, social and sensual space from which to take in the night air. This most glamorous, uncompromising expression of open-top luxury is given a new and darker sensual dimension through its suite of Black Badge engineering and design treatments.

The Dawn Black Badge at the Festival of Speed is presented in a deeply intense shade of black. Multiple layers of paint and lacquer have been fastidiously applied and hand-polished in a process that amounts to the most exhaustive painting and polishing process ever used for a solid paint colour. The result clothes Dawn’s sensuous lines in the deepest, darkest and most intense black to ever grace a production car surface. The roof, which opens in a ‘Silent Ballet’ to allow in the sounds of the night, is also only available in black canvas, whilst the rear deck is finished in black leather.

In creating Black Badge, Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke designers have sought to create true signifiers of this more assertive alter-ego for the marque. Dawn gets this same treatment.

The Spirit of Ecstasy – itself a mascot that has taken many different forms throughout the marque’s history – transforms into a high-gloss vamp, finished in a perfectly executed black chrome. This transformation to a darker aesthetic extends to certain chrome surfaces including the front grille surround, boot lid finisher, exhaust pipes and air inlet finisher. The effect is an authentic transformation that speaks of a bolder, more confident sensibility. Finally, the ‘Double R’ signifiers on the Rolls-Royce badges are inverted in colour, confirming the creation of a true alter-ego of the marque.

This bold, edgy design ethos extends beautifully into the interior – an exquisitely appointed staging point for patrons who seek to discover the night’s elements with the roof down. This exquisite expression of noir informs every conceivable detail. For example, innovative production techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition, a highly technical surfacing method, perfectly darkens the air-vents throughout the interior in a manner that will never discolour or tarnish.

Reflecting the marque’s Bespoke philosophy, Dawn Black Badge also plays host to a new interior palette break-up. Higher levels of exquisite Black leather are accented boldly with Mandarin highlights, including a strip of orange highlight which encircles the cabin at hip-height, evocative of the sunset before the passengers are immersed in darkness.

A final touch, again, in a nod to one of Rolls-Royce’s great pioneer patrons, Sir Malcolm Campbell, finishes the rear interior space. His famous ‘Infinity’ rating logo beautifully embroidered into the car’s rear waterfall, gives a subtle nod to a man very much possessed of the restless spirit that so defines the Black Badge attitude.

Truly Bespoke Engineering

Like its stablemates Ghost and Wraith, the distilled essence of Dawn is amplified through the engineering that underpins the Black Badge philosophy. In the case of Dawn, the engineering substance that leads to more spirited driving is accentuated by the creation of an entirely new exhaust system, that when deployed by the press of the ‘low’ button, celebrates Rolls-Royce’s hallmark V12 engine with a menacing bass baritone, announcing its arrival with authority rather than hysteria.

The exhaust tone adds an aural dimension to a suite of engineering enhancements. Indeed, Black Badge stands as a truly Bespoke collaboration between design and engineering, answering the demands of a new breed of patron of luxury who seeks a more spirited, involving driving experience which retains the peerless quality of ride that has driven Dawn’s success. To achieve this, the engineers have exploited the flexibility of Dawn’s magnificent 6.6 litre twin-turbo V12 to generate an extra 30bhp over the car’s already ample 563bhp, bringing the total to 593bhp. That hallmark sense of one infinite gear is also given bolder expression with the addition of a further 20NM of torque available from 1,500rpm, bringing the total to 840NM.

Fundamental changes to the transmission and throttle strategy give Dawn an enhanced feeling of urgency without diminishing its position as the world’s most luxurious open-top tourer. Indeed, the drive-train, ZF 8-speed gear box and steering-rack are so intuitive that they work together to create a more spirited drive depending on throttle and steering input. The result is a perfectly stately Rolls-Royce touring experience at low speeds and a highly engaging drive when the driver seeks to ‘push on’. Fundamental changes to suspension settings and components also ensure an appropriate balance between Rolls-Royce comfort and driver focus, felt in flatter cornering at high speeds.

The increased urgency of Dawn Black Badge has led to the development of new brakes with an increase in diameter of one inch. During deceleration, a fundamental remapping of the transmission strategy leads to downshifts a few rpm sooner under braking, offering engine braking when driving in a more spirited manner.

The steering-rack has also been quickened and engineered for more feedback. Speed-dependent adjustments also embolden Black Badge drivers as they enjoy an added sense of security and feel derived from increased steering weight at high speeds.

Dawn Black Badge is now available to commission.
