Printful

When Printful launched its print-on-demand/drop-shipping business in 2013, most competitors were traditional bulk-printing companies that weren’t built for one-off fulfillment of t-shirts and other products. Today, thanks to the e-commerce explosion and a savvy technology-focused business strategy, Printful is the largest company of its kind with three fulfillment centers in the U.S. and headquarters in Riga, Latvia and Charlotte, NC, a fourth that recently opened in Mexico, 500 employees, dozens of product options, and 800,000+ customers around the globe from artists and cause marketers to Twitter-preneurs like WeRateDogs that use merchandise to monetize their ventures.

  • The company was founded by two young Latvians who couldn’t find an acceptable print-on-demand drop-shipping partner for a business they ran selling posters, clothing and other items with motivational quotes for entrepreneurs.
  • It has doubled revenues every year since inception, fulfilled more than 10 million orders generating over $540 million for customers, and is still self-funded.
  • Features like 14 integrated e-commerce platforms (more than any competitor), API connectivity, and a mockup generator that creates store-ready product images help fuel business.
  • One-third of customers surveyed say their e-commerce storefront is a full-time gig, and three-quarters of the rest say they’re aiming to get there.

Margot

Restaurateur Rohan Talwar helms IB Hospitality and owns the illustrious West Hollywood gem, Norahs. A few months ago, he opened the doors to modish and culinary oasis, Margot – complete with exotic dishes, regional wines and special drink menu.

Margot, a Mediterranean infused restaurant composed of various seating and dine-in areas with 360 degree views of West LA, in Culver City is a diamond in the rough. The rooftop (indoor and outdoor seated venue) nests at the top of the PLATFORM (a boutique shopping experience with fashion/pop-ups, wellness and bites) and borders tons of retail, commercial and a new hotel soon erupting. The speedy Expo line train can be seen swiftly running east to west while you sip and/or dine outside and mimics the likes of some of the more prestigious eateries within Brooklyn’s Dumbo area. Similar to the train, rumors have quickly traveled throughout the city that Amazon will begin developing a new location nearby.

‘Hot like fire’ understates the atmosphere at night as the outside appears to be torched with tons of heat lamps in tow. With fresh farm-to-fork ingredients and handmade pastas (try the spaghetti), this place is a soon to be staple within the LA area. The menu constantly changes for an all-inclusive dining experience, including those with strict plant-based diets. Great for romantic dates, celebratory moments and family gatherings on ‘Sunday Funday’ largely due to their tapas as well as fresh raw seafood bar. Talk about delectable oysters. Step foot inside to find every inch of this establishment scream social media engagement wall. Note murals and tapestries all aligned in tune with a modernistic and contemporary ambiance. Service is extremely courteous, helpful and hospitable. And if that’s not enough to keep you coming back, the handcrafted cocktails will. Try their refreshening grapefruit gin and juice or a fruity frosé – worth every penny. It’s about time Culver City got what it deserved – a casual dining experience with budding professionals who seek something edgy, youthful and tasty.

Boost your metabolism before you eat, as SoulCycle is located on the second floor right underneath Margot. Or, after a zesty salad and sandwich at Margot, you may want to head down to the first level to the cozy ice cream shop with a menu of small-batch flavors, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.

*Margot is open daily from 11am-2am at the PLATFORM: 8820 Washington Blvd #301 (310) 643-5853

Highlights
• Accommodates approximately 150 seated or 350 for reception

The Mayumi: All-Inclusive Residential Stay

The Mayumi, a new residential concept by HQ Development, is set to open April 2018 in Los Angeles. Located in the epicenter of Culver City, California, this new space has been fashioned into a remarkable 35-unit flexible-stay residence catering to long-term visitors looking for a monthly all-inclusive residential stay alternative and creative space.

Mayumi provides the best of both worlds – a private haven and social hub. Created to provide an unparalleled living experience crafted on a foundation of design, flexibility and community, Mayumi members can enjoy luxurious private rooms and common areas to connect with others.

Each member is provided their own unit, with an ensuite private restroom featuring a soft water system and rain shower. An in-room touchscreen managing lights, shades and thermostat provides full control of the environment right at the member’s fingertips, as well as a 50-inch Smart TV with DirectTV service.

The innovative concept is a natural fit for HQ Development, whose projects throughout Culver City, Hollywood and Santa Monica have attracted heavyweight companies in creative industries as its tenants. With the opening of Mayumi, HQ Development will mark its entry into the residential market and similarly endow the surrounding neighborhoods with a thriving energy. As Robert Herscu remarks, “Our intent is to make Mayumi synonymous with luxury, flexibility and comfort. Our drive to create a distinctive living experience is as fierce as our residents’ passion to make their mark in LA.”

Additional flexible stay locations are currently in development, with expected availability in 2019.
