CITY GIRLS

The wait is over! Today Yung Miami and JT – together known as City Girls – release their first single together since JT was freed from prison: “You Tried It.” Listen HERE. The internet exploded when JT got out on October 8, 2019, with City Girls holding eight of the top 25 trending topics on twitter – not just trending but trending under eight different topics! (#2 JT FREE; #6 JT HOME; #11 JT IS FREE; #15 JT IS HOME; #16 Caresha; #19 Yung Miami; #20 JT OUT; #23 SO JT).

Even with JT incarcerated, the girls have racked up 1.2 BILLION streams within two years, with City Girls’ hit records “Act Up” and “Twerk (feat Cardi B)” both RIAA Certified platinum. Separated after JT turned herself in for credit card fraud charges in July, 2018, the same day Drake’s “In My Feelings (featuring City Girls)” was released, Yung Miami has been holding it down: touring, performing, recording videos and features as City Girls. But last month JT was not only released, but Yung Miami pushed out her bundle of joy, Summer. Both got new chains: JT a ‘City Girls’ chain from Miami; Yung Miami a small fries chain celebrating her new small fry – and favorite food – from McDonalds  “YOU B**CHES IN TROUBLE!! MY B**CH [IS] HOME!” Yung Miami tweeted, announcing JT’s freedom. And on her first day out, City Girls released the record “First Day Out,” with JT citing “Stop with all the rumors, and tell your nigga I’m home / And it’s on / Period.” JT and Young Miami are uncensored, unapologetic, sharing a commitment to their hood roots and a bold insistence that the culture they come from shouldn’t stop them from getting a piece of the cash pie. One of the most provocative female hip-hop duos in years, JT and Yung Miami are trailblazers of the next generation of female who speak out as raw and confident — and with as much swagger as the boys.

City Girls Continue As No. 1 Emerging Artists

City Girls continue to ride the streak as Billboard’s No. 1 Emerging Artists for 24 weeks in a row powered by the Miami-based hip-hop duo’s single “Act Up“.

JMBLYA Festival

ScoreMore Shows is proud to announce the full music lineup for the seventh annual JMBLYA, which will return to Dallas and Austin May 3 and 4, respectively. GA and VIP ticket packages will go on sale this Friday, March 1, at noon CT at www.jmblya.com.

The two-city, two-day fest is set to officially kick off in Dallas on Friday, May 3 with a return to the historic Fair Park near downtown Dallas followed by a stop in Austin on Saturday, May 4 at the award-winning, multi-purpose entertainment facility Circuit of The Americas (COTA). Last year, both locations hosted JMBLYA’s largest crowds to date with 60,000+ total attendees across two days. Parking will once again be complimentary to all attendees at COTA.

In the tradition of years past, JMBLYA will offer festival-goers a stacked lineup filled to the brim with a highly curated selection of today’s hottest and most sought-after hip-hop performers. Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum rapper/producer and Texas-native Travis Scott will headline the 2019 festival. Scott is arguably one of the the most popular and influential artists of the past year with recent accolades including a performance at the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show and the August release of his third studio album Astroworld, which has since been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and which featured Scott’s first number one song on the US Billboard Hot 100, “Sicko Mode.”

Other notable performers on the lineup include three generations of outstanding emcees from Louisiana, including Grammy Award-winning and oft-labeled “Best Rapper Alive” Lil Wayne, who continues to perform in support of his recently released, long-awaited twelfth studio album, Tha Carter V; hustler-turned-rapper Kevin Gates, who continues to churn out new music following 2018’s Chained to the City and Luca Brasi 3 mixtapes; and one of today’s most exciting up-and-comers, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, who continues to perform in support of his debut studio album, Until Death Call My Name, released last spring.

Also set to grace the main stages at JMBLYA 2019 are rappers Gunna and Sheck Wes, both of whom are touring with Travis Scott as part of his nationwide “Astroworld—Wish You Were Here” tour; viral sensation-turned-emcee Bhad Bhabie, who is currently the youngest female rapper ever to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and who continues to tease new music from her yet-to-be-named debut album; and Los Angeles hot act Blueface, whose most recent single, “Thotiana,” continues to gain popularity while making waves on radio stations across the country.

Additional performers include female hip-hop duo City Girls, who are currently signed to Quality Control, the music label home to other rap megastars like Migos, Cardi B, and Lil Yachty; Houston’s own Maxo Kream, who just released his long-awaited debut album, Punken, this past January; and rising Filipino-American artist P-Lo, who might be most known for founding the hip hop record production collective HBK Gang and who released his sophomore studio album, PRIME, this past July. Two aspiring Texas-based emcees, WhooKilledKenny from Austin and 10k.caash from Dallas, help to round out the 2019 lineup.

Each leg of the 2019 festival will again support a local charitable partner. Music Forward has impacted over 1M lives and invested $25M towards providing transformational music opportunities to youth from under-represented communities during the last 25+ years. In Austin for Day 2, the festival will donate a portion of proceeds to Grounded in Music, an Austin-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which works with underprivileged children in grades 4 and up to provide music instruction that would be otherwise absent from their school’s curriculum and to connect children with nationally-recognized musicians, opportunities, and scholarships.

JMBLYA would also like to thank returning sponsors Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Red Bull who are helping to make the 2019 festival possible.

Be on the lookout as more JMBLYA news, including the full performance schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

City Girls Video Twerk feat. Cardi B

Today Yung Miami and JT — together known as City Girls — release the highly-anticipated video for Twerk (feat. Cardi B). In it, City Girls own the dance for themselves, rallying their troupe of women to get cheeks flying and take control of their own sexuality. And hell if it doesn’t look like a good time.

WATCH HERE

The Broadcast Premier will be on BET Jams and will air every hour on the network. City Girls’ Yung Miami — painted as a zebra — and featured artist Cardi B — painted as a tiger — lead a group of agile ladies on yacht, on a beach, on a pole, even on a muscle car without a man in sight. Ladies are twerkin’ it for themselves, showcasing insanely amazing athleticism, and looking bodaciously fly while doing it. And they can slap their own ass thank you.

With over 215 million overall streams and 39.3 million from Twerk (ft. Cardi B), the world sure seemed ready to listen and dance. Twerk was an immediate track stand-out for fans on City Girls new album, Girl Code (Quality Control Music/Motown/Capitol Records), so the Girls decided to send a challenge to the world. The Goal: To find the world’s greatest twerker. The winner would not only get flewed into Miami on “Flewed Out” airlines and $50k in hard cash, but would be — and now is — featured in their video taking back the twerk.

Refreshingly, JT and Yung Miami bluntly set their own terms on what can be a taboo subject for women. Most recently City Girls’ genuineness caught the ear of Drake, who recruited them for his 10-week chart topping song In My Feelings. And when City Girls rap to a lovelorn Drake, “I’ll show you how to network. F*ck that Netflix and chill; what’s your net worth?” they make it clear they are looking for any broke boys.

JT and Young Miami are uncensored, unapologetic, sharing a commitment to their hood roots and a bold insistence that the culture they come from should stop them from getting a piece of the cash pie. One of the most provocative female hip-hop duo in years, the Miami duo of JT and Yung Miami are the next generation of female speak out as raw and confident — and with as much swagger as the boys.

As Refinery29 states: “This emerging group taps into the same enterprising spirit applauded in male rappers when they wax poetic about selling drugs or pimping to escape bleak financial circumstance. This female version is just as inspiring. The male gaze only succeeds in objectifying women when the sole outcome considered is male gratification. City Girls set the terms of engagement for a payday they’ve orchestrated.”

With JT currently serving her sentence for credit card fraud, City Girls worked hard and banked a lot of material before she went in. As Yung Miami states: “It is a minor setback for a major comeback.”

Coach K and Pierre “Pee” Thomas of the renowned Quality Control Music label discovered the girls and took their first song “Fu*k Dat N****” from a regional hit to a national smash when it appeared on the seminal Quality Control Presents: Control The Streets Vol 1 compilation. Recently Quality Control Music released City Girls’ heart-wrenching documentary Point Blank Period. The documentary follows the City Girls as they break into a predominantly male-dominated industry with the release of Period. It features their reactions to hearing Drake shout them out on his record to JT working in the studio until her jail sentence starts.

Exclusive interviews are included with Yung Miami and JT, as well as industry trailblazers Trina, Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas, exposing the complicated road to breaking female artists in the changing music landscape.

City Girls Release “Season” Music Video

City Girls release their music video for Season featuring Lil Baby Watch it HERE. Season comes after Girl Code (Quality Control Music/Motown/Capitol Records). Girl Code includes features from Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. They also recently released the new song, TWERK,  with the remix version featuring Cardi B included on Girl Code.
Listen to Girl Code HERE.
One of the most provocative female hip-hop duo in years, the Miami duo of JT and Yung Miami are the next generation of female rappers. On their acclaimed debut project, PERIOD, City Girls speak out as raw and confident — and with as much swagger– as the boys do, ultimately flipping the script on Hip Hop.
And people are listening. With nearly 100 million streams, JT and Young Miami are uncensored, unapologetic, sharing a commitment to their hood roots and a bold insistence that the culture they come from should stop them from getting a piece of the cash pie.
Most recently City Girls caught the ear of Drake, an early fan who recruited them for his 10-week chart topping song In My Feelings. It’s not all about Kiki When the City Girls I’ll show you how to network. F*ck that Netflix and chill; what’s your net worth? They unapologetically rap about sexual and financial empowerment, and they are not looking for any broke boys.
As Refinery29 states: This emerging group taps into the same enterprising spirit applauded in male rappers when they wax poetic about selling drugs or pimping to escape bleak financial circumstance. This female version is just as inspiring. The male gaze only succeeds in objectifying women when the sole outcome considered is male gratification. City Girls set the terms of engagement for a payday they’ve orchestrated.
With JT currently serving her sentence for credit card fraud, City Girls worked hard and banked a lot of material before she went in. As Yung Miami states: It is a minor setback for a major comeback. But perhaps the clearest explanation of the City Girl’s Girl Code is spoken in the album’s earliest moments. During a phone call from JT in prison on Intro (FREE JT), Yung Miami picks up the mic and unleashes a fiery verse that puts to rest any question of what she and her partner are here to accomplish: All my life I’ve been going against the odds/Tryna come up on me, better keep your job/A round of applause for the boss ass bitches/Who made it on their own.Éd; And as the track fades out, JT chimes in with a final message of defiance for any who would stand in their way: Éc;When I come home Period — game over.
This year Quality Control Music released City Girls’ uncensored heart-wrenching documentary Point Blank Period The documentary follows the City Girls as they break into a predominantly male-dominated industry with the release of Period. Chris is currently returning to the stage on his stand-up comedy tour that has received rave reviews all over the world, while spending much of his spare time traveling and working with his foundation.

The unmistakable, irrepressible sound of young America didn’t just dominate the charts–it crossed the racial divide during the social upheaval of the 1960’s. The hits and cultural influence doesn’t stop as Motown and its family of imprints explore new genres in partnerships with labels including Quality Control Music, which set the stage for signings of Migos and Lil Yachty. In recognition of the brand’s iconic relevance and impact, EBONY is pleased to honor Motowns decades of success. The award will be accepted by Motown President, and EVP of Capitol Music Group. Ethiopia Habtemariam, who is also honored in the Women Up category for her outstanding leadership in the music industry.

Habtemariam has ushered in a new generation of artists with acts like JAMESDAVIS, Lil Baby, City Girls, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Last summer, Billboard magazine recognized her as Universal Music Group’s Most Powerful African-American Woman.

“We are delighted to announce our celebrated host and award recipients for this year’s EBONY Power 100 Gala,” says Gibson. “Since unveiling our 2018 EBONY Power 100 List last month, the anticipation and buzz throughout the country has been very exciting to see.
