Bravo Announces BravoCon

Bravo announces the first ever BravoCon, offering an interactive dream experience for fans featuring live performances, insider panels, unique activations and VIP access to Bravo’s biggest shows and Bravolebrities. Pop singer Ashlee Keating drops new single “Bad Mistake.” The single is Ashlee’s follow up to her chart-topping dance record “Hurt Me So Good”, which peeked at #8 on the Billboard Dance Club Charts. “Bad Mistake” is an empowering up-tempo pop song with an urban melodic vibe that shows off Ashlee’s powerhouse vocals; It’s full of attitude, strength, and swag.

Drea Pizziconi premieres “Let Us Dance”

Musician/activist Drea Pizziconi will premiere her new global empowerment anthem “Let Us Dance” featuring Maimouna Youssef and The Dap-Kings Horns, with a live performance at the CAMFED 25 Gala honoring singer-songwriter, social activist and philanthropist Annie Lennox on May 9. The gala’s theme is Education Changes Everything.

“Let Us Dance,” which was written and produced by Pizziconi, with a rousing rap by Youssef, releases worldwide on May 10.  All 2019 profits from the track will support the Campaign For Female Education’s (CAMFED) work to educate girls in Africa.

“Education is a basic human right and there is no better investment in our world’s future, than the investment in a girl’s education,” says Pizziconi. “But the barrier for women to reach their potential remains high. I wrote this song for all the girls out there who won’t give up and want to tell the world ‘Get ready…we’re coming.’”

Youssef comments: “It’s time that we have an affirming women’s empowerment anthem that’s not reactionary, but powerfully proactive and fiercely feminine.”

Pizziconi is a multi-hyphenate: composer/ lyricist/ producer/director and serial social entrepreneur. She founded The Christie Company and subsequently Africa Integras, one of Africa’s largest education infrastructure development companies, dedicated to the empowerment and education of youth and especially girls.

She challenges standard convention by straddling the creative and financial sectors, trailblazing representation for women to support youth empowerment. A Gates scholar and graduate of Yale and Cambridge University, she has dedicated her life to expanding education access for youth around the world, ensuring she “pays forward” her own privileged educational experience.

The multi-faceted musician is an award-winning music director, producer and arranger, who is classically-trained as a vocalist and percussionist, having toured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and the Middle East as a recitalist and featured artist.

Her global exposure as a musician inspired her early social and entrepreneurial activism and reignited her storyteller musical roots. She felt compelled to write music that would give a voice to those without a platform, so these critical stories of survival would be told.

Pizziconi’s recent credits include co-writer and co-producer of “Running” (aka Refugee Song), featuring Grammy-Award winning artists Gregory Porter and Common, which Billboard named the top single to inspire hope and change in 2016.

She is also the co-founder of Compositions For A Cause, which has released several critically acclaimed records with trumpeter Keyon Harrold, including the protest anthem she wrote “Circus Show,” featuring Gary Clark, Jr.  Additionally, she executive produced and served as a collaborating producer and songwriter on Harrold’s 2017 Sony Legacy album “The Mugician.”

Hannah Hart Stars in Edible History

Hi! Ever wondered about the origin story behind your favorite foods?

In Tasty’s new series, Edible History, internet superstar Hannah Hart is learning about and recreating the historic recipes of her favorite foods… with one catch: she has to use as many tools and techniques from that time period as possible.

Since premiering yesterday, the first episode of Edible History already has more than 2.5 million views and the response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic – fans are loving the fun mix of entertainment and education.

You might know entertainer and food enthusiast Hannah Hart from her New York Times best-selling books, Food Network show, films, podcasts, LGBTQ advocacy, or her wildly popular YouTube series “My Drunk Kitchen” – now she’s entering the Tasty kitchen to combine her love of food and her love of history.

In the first episode of Edible History, Hannah makes a 700 year-old lasagna recipe (spoiler alert: it doesn’t look like the modern-day lasagna you know and love). And the results are… well, maybe the dish doesn’t come out perfect, but the journey is definitely entertaining.

ElIzabeth J. Mayer-Davis Wins Kelly West Award

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) will present the 2019 Kelly West Award for Outstanding Achievement in Epidemiology to Elizabeth J. Mayer-Davis, PhD. This award recognizes significant contributions to the field of diabetes epidemiology. Dr. Mayer-Davis will be recognized with this honor at the ADA’s 79th Scientific Sessions, June 7-11, 2019, at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. She will deliver her Kelly West Award Lecture titled, “Improving Outcomes—Translating Epidemiology to Clinical Trials,” on Sunday, June 9.

 

Dr. Mayer-Davis is currently the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Nutrition and Medicine and Chair of the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With research focused on the epidemiology of diabetes in youth and young adults, her body of work is described in more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. Dr. Mayer-Davis has conducted trials in type 2 diabetes prevention and type 1 diabetes treatment. She has also performed observational studies of diabetes complications and the role of nutrition. Much of her work has focused on translating research to understand clinical and public health implications.

“Congratulations Dr. Mayer-Davis, and thank you for your outstanding contributions to the important topic of diabetes research as it pertains to our youth,” said the ADA’s 2019 President of Health Care and Education Gretchen Youssef, MS, RD, CDE. “Your work has been critical to the advancement and dissemination of our understanding of diabetes epidemiology.”

 

Today, Dr. Mayer-Davis is active in the scientific advisory and diabetes advocacy communities. She served as the ADA’s President, Health Care and Education from 2011-2013, and most recently, she was appointed to the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services. Previously, she was appointed by President Obama to serve on the Advisory Group of Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health from 2011-2017.

 

The American Diabetes Association’s 79th Scientific Sessions, the world’s largest scientific meeting focused on diabetes research, prevention and care, will be held June 7-11, 2019, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Nearly 15,000 leading physicians, scientists, health care professionals and industry representatives from around the world are expected to convene at the Scientific Sessions to unveil cutting-edge research, treatment recommendations and advances toward a cure for diabetes. Comedian Tom Green Releasing Album

Tom Green – prankster, provocateur, pundit – has a lot on his mind, and this bracing, inventive album lays it all out. A dazzling pastiche of social and political commentary, autobiography, and general Tom-foolery, it mixes hip-hop, punk-rock, goth-rock, confessional folk, electronica, and signature novelty tunes into a heady stew, spiced with samples from the Green’s TV shows, movies, and stand-up comedy routines.
Last week, Tom shared the brand new video for ‘I Wanna Be Friends With Drake’, taken from his (vinyl only) limited edition forthcoming album, ‘The Tom Green Show’, available for pre-order and released this Friday, May 17th. You can watch the video here on RollingStone.com.
A few words from Tom:
“Thank you for listening to my album. I made this record myself. And I had fun doing it. As a teenager, I became fascinated by rap and electronic music. I spent my summers mowing lawns and working shitty jobs just to scrape up enough money to buy a used drum machine and, eventually, an Akai s-950 sampler and an Atari 520st computer to sequence my beats. I began “digging in the crates” through the vast collection of vinyl at the community radio station where I volunteered. And I started sampling and looping old funk and R&B and jazz breaks from musical legends of the 1970s. I would take the looped beats and bass-lines and drop raps over them in my home studio. Most of my friends would come to my house and have no idea what the hell I was doing.
Flash forward three decades. I never stopped making music, but a few years ago, I decided to start recording again on a more regular basis. This is my first release on vinyl since 1992. I would like you to know that every sound was carefully considered by me. I funneled the drums or bass or guitar noise through a mess of cables and compressors in my own recording studio that I built in Los Angeles. The album includes some audio clips from my recent stand-up comedy, some from the original “Tom Green Show,” and, of course, some funny songs and some sincere ones. I hope you enjoy it.
