Billy Ray Cyrus to Debut New Album

BMG TO RELEASE MUCH-ANTICIPATED BILLY RAY CYRUS ALBUM THE SNAKEDOCTOR CIRCUS MAY 24

While Billy Ray Cyrus shares the No. 1 song on all music streaming platforms worldwide with the remix of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” Cyrus is equally excited about the release of his long-planned album, The SnakeDoctor Circus. Cyrus and BMG planned to release the concept record on May 24 long before the phenomenon of “Old Town Road.”

“Life is a series of adjustments. I’ve been working on this album, The SnakeDoctor Circus, for more than two years now. In January this year, my label, BMG, had planned and scheduled the release of this album May 24. Twenty-seven days ago, I heard a song from Lil Nas X and felt the injustice of the way he was being treated. You just don’t pull the rug out from under someone like that. He impacted a worldwide psyche and touched a universal harmony. That’s when I made the adjustment in my schedule, went to the studio, wrote a new verse and sang on ‘Old Town Road’ with Lil Nas X,” said Cyrus.

Cyrus recorded The SnakeDoctor Circus in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with some of the most respected musicians, including Cyrus’ longtime collaborator and songwriting mentor, Don Von Tress, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dewey Lyndon “Spooner” Oldham (piano), Nashville Musician’s Hall of Fame Member Will McFarlane, as well as David Hood (bass guitar), Kelvin Holly (electric/acoustic/bass guitar), Bekka Bramlett (vocals, tambourine), Kimi Samson (violin, viola, piano), Caleb Elliott (cello), Will McFarlane (electric guitar), James LeBlanc (electric guitar), Mike ‘Dillon’ Curington (drums), John Brannen (acoustic guitar, harmonica), Shonna Tucker (bass guitar), Angela Hacker (vocals), Larry Byrom (piano), Mick Utley (piano), Johnny Monteagle (drums, baritone sax, synth) and Jimmy Nutt (acoustic/electric guitars, tambourine, percussion). Nutt, a Grammy®-winning recording engineer, also mixed The SnakeDoctor Circus.

It’s a full circle moment for Cyrus because Von Tress wrote the multi-platinum smash “Achy Breaky Heart” on Cyrus’ record-breaking debut album Some Gave All. Cyrus penned “Some Gave All” about a Vietnam veteran in 1989 only to meet Von Tress, whom is also a Vietnam veteran, a few years later. The collaboration between the two songwriting titans more than 25 years ago continues with new music on The SnakeDoctor Circus.

Billy Ray Cyrus x Today Show

Following the overwhelming demand of “The Goddess of Democracy,” a new song from his forthcoming album, Billy Ray Cyrus and The Snake Doctor Circus, Cyrus will return to the TODAY Show Wednesday, Sept. 5 to promote a cause he’s passionate about: supporting U.S. veterans.

As a DAV (Disabled American Veterans) celebrity ambassador, Cyrus provided a re-recording of his multi-platinum selling smash, “Some Gave All,” to be included in a new movie benefiting DAV. “God Bless The Broken Road,” which is in theaters nationwide next Friday, Sept. 7, tells the inspirational story of a young mother who loses her husband in Afghanistan and struggles to raise their young daughter in his absence.

“I wrote ‘Some Gave All’ about a Vietnam veteran, so I am honored that DAV and its new film “God Bless The Broken Road” included my song. Veterans are the heartbeat of America. So go to the theatres September 7 and support Disabled American Veterans!” Billy Ray Cyrus shared.

“God Bless The Broken Road” focuses on the importance of family, friends, and faith, while paying tribute to those who serve in the United States Military.

Proceeds from the film will go to DAV, a nonprofit charity that provides support for veterans of all generations and their families. The more successful the movie is, the more veterans the DAV gets to serve.

Aretha Franklin

Brenda Lee, Wynonna Judd, Tanya Tucker, Billy Ray Cyrus, Bill Anderson and David Bellamy Mourn the Passing of Aretha Franklin

“The music industry lost a lot of it’s soul with the passing of the great Aretha Franklin. With all of her success, stardom and notoriety, she kept her feet close to the ground and gave her heart to the world. ” -Brenda Lee

“I am just heartbroken. This cannot be happening. Oh how I love her. Meeting her was such a highlight. She is THE shero who changed my life. Her voice. Listening to her brings me closer to Heaven and I will love her forever. We have lost an American treasure. It’s the end of an era.” -Wynonna Judd

“I never had the chance to meet her, but I love her. I mean, doesn’t everyone? She is the grand dame of soul! She could sing anything and make you believe it! I regret not having met a few of my heroes and icons in the music business, and she is definitely one of them. My thoughts and prayers are with Aretha’s family. All my love and great admiration to her!” -Tanya Tucker

“I never had the pleasure of meeting Aretha Franklin, but I was extremely honored when she recorded a song I co-wrote back in the seventies. The song was called, “I May Never Get To Heaven,” and was later a No. 1 country hit for Conway Twitty. Aretha put her own unique, personal stamp on it, and as great artists often do, made the song her very own. I admired her tremendously, and never tired of telling people that she recorded a song that I had a hand in writing. Rest in peace, Ms. Aretha, and thank you for the sunshine you brought into this country boy’s life.” -Bill Anderson

“Rest in peace Aretha Franklin. An amazing talent with one of the most moving voices of all time. Your music will live on forever.” -Billy Ray Cyrus

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of such a musical icon. Aretha was simply the greatest singer of her generation. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.” -David Bellamy

Country Stars Mourn the Loss Of Mel Tillis

“Kindest man I’ve ever known. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Gonna be some great country music in Heaven this Sunday.”

Billy Ray Cyrus

“My heart is just broken over the passing of the great Mel Tillis. I have so many wonderful memories with him. I’ll never forget working with him on ‘Love Boat’ with Dottie West. We just go way back – from the time I was 8 years old when he brought me on stage with him. When I got older, sometimes I had to use other bands because I didn’t have a band. Mel always let me use his band and I’ll never forget that. We remained friends right up until the end. Love you, Mel.”

Tanya Tucker

“There are stand-up comedians and then there’s Mel Tillis. His hilarious misadventures out on the road are legendary. Just ask Mac Davis or Ray Stevens. I also know Mel as my friend. Upbeat guy who admirably turned his stuttering into an asset and educated everyone on how to overcome stereotypes. There will never be anyone else like Mel Tillis.”

Naomi Judd

“We’re so sad to hear about the passing of Mel Tillis, but we feel so fortunate to have known him. Prayers and condolences to all of his family.”

Bellamy Brothers

“Mel was a true country legend. A singer, a songwriter and entertainer. Like Ray Price, Mel was a forerunner in bringing a big band to country with 3 fiddles. As big as he was, he made time to come visit when I was in the studio. When I was in Branson, he would often drop by. I recorded Mel’s song ‘Burning Memories.’ He was just a genuine nice guy and we will all miss him dearly.”

–Gene Watson

“Rest In Peace my brother Mel. Love to you and your family.”

Phil Vassar

“I had the honor of sitting and talking with Mel a couple of times. He’s such a great man. I loved his jokes, stories and songs. He’s another legend that will be missed, but never forgotten.”
