BBC America’s Top Gear returns for an All New Season

The all-new 27th season of Top Gear premieres on the network on Sunday, July 14 at 8/7c on BBC America. Featuring new hosts Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and returning host Chris Harris, the premiere episode sees the trio reliving their first car experiences in Ethiopia. Freddie, Paddy and Chris are tasked with buying a fine example of their own first car, and drive their purchases to the Danakil Depression – the hottest year-round place on Earth. Moreover, Chris takes to the track in the McLaren 600LT and Ferrari 488 Pista in order to determine which track-day supercar is the best. Suffice to say, Europe’s tire manufacturers were kept in business for another few years.

THIS SEASON:

  • The hosts must find examples of their first cars for an epic Ethiopian road trip.
  • Paddy, Chris and Freddie build their own electric sports cars. Plus, Chris challenges Elon Musk’s claims about the Tesla Model 3.
  • Paddy will demonstrate of the perfect family car is an old hearse. They’re spacious, carefully driven and very cheap, on account of no one wanting to buy one.
  • The hosts test rare cars in the rain forest of Borneo.
  • Freddie competes in Iceland’s Formula Off Road – the maddest, smashiest motorsport on the planet, in which thousand-horsepower trucks race to the top of vertical cliffs.

The new season sees Paddy, Freddie and Chris tackling the fastest, hottest, toughest Top Gear challenges to date: pushing their cars, and themselves, to the very limits of endurance. From the brutal heat of the Ethiopian desert to the pedestrianized shopping district of downtown Mansfield in England,Top Gear is going bigger than ever before – all brought from the world-famous Top Gear test track, where a fresh batch of celebrities will demonstrate their driving prowess, or lack thereof, in the Reasonably Fast Car as well as being put through a new challenge which will be set by the presenters each week.

Lewis Capaldi’s Debut Album

Lewis Capaldi will release his debut album — Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent – on May 17th via Capitol Records.  The 22-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter also announced plans for a U.S. June tour and recently shared the official video for his new single, “Someone You Loved,” which stars Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, who portrayed the Twelfth Doctor in the iconic British television show “Dr. Who” and is a distant cousin of Lewis.

The video, which can be viewed HERE, amassed over one million views in four days and trended on YouTube, hitting #2. “Someone You Loved” and Peter Capaldi also trended on Twitter on the day of release.

In an open, heartfelt letter, Lewis Capaldi explains:

I’m absolutely buzzing to finally be able to announce my debut album. I never thought I’d get to the point where I’d be able to release a proper album and I ABSOLUTELY never thought that when I did, I would give it a name as stupid I have, but here we are.

Everyone always tells you about how amazing recording their first album was and how they’ll always look back on the ‘process’ with fond memories. I will look back on it as an extremely stressful time that somehow also managed to be extremely boring. The actual process of building the songs up I loved, but recording the same guitar parts over and over again to get them right and going back on mixes for weeks, I did not.

I hope people don’t think it’s shit. I mean don’t get me wrong there will be one or two stinkers on there, but I’m only human and we all make mistakes, but as a whole I think it’s pretty fucking good.

I’m excited for it to be released and have people finally be able to hear a full body of work from me for the first time. Should it bomb completely or receive an absolute critical lambasting, don’t worry, it’s just my life’s work up until this point….

His U.S. tour, which kicks off on June 1st at The Sinclair in Boston, will include a June 4th show at New York City’s Irving Plaza. It will wrap up at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on June 12th. Fans who make a purchase at Capaldi’s online store  http://shop.lewiscapaldi.com before 7:00 PM ET on Thursday, February 21st, will receive a code for an exclusive ticket pre-sale, which begins at 10:00 AM local time on Wednesday, February 20th. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 22nd, at 10:00 AM local time at http://www.lewiscapaldi.com. See below for itinerary. Capaldi, who is currently opening for Bastille on the band’s European tour, will kick off his biggest U.K. headline tour to date on November 22nd.

Fans who pre-order Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, available at all digital partners, will instantly receive “Someone You Loved” plus the previously released “Grace,”  Bruises,” “Lost on You” and “Fade.” A CD box set featuring colored vinyl with metallic cover, sunglasses and Lewis calendar is now available exclusively at http://shop.lewiscapaldi.com

Worldwide streams of “Someone You Loved” have topped 60 million while cumulative global streams of all Capaldi’s songs now exceed 400 million. Idolator predicted, “Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’ Is Going To Be Big…It goes without saying that he’s One To Watch.”  Directed by Phil Beastall – known for the short viral film Love is a Gift – the “Someone You Loved” video heightens awareness of the need for organ donors. For more information about organ donation, visit https://livelifegivelife.org.uk.

Recorded over an 18-month period in London, New York and Los Angeles, Capaldi co-wrote each of the 12 songs, working with Malay who also produced, (Frank Ocean, Lorde) Jamie Hartman (Calvin Harris, Rag N Bone Man) and TMS. Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent is an ironically titled, but charismatically defining album that’s lyrically candid and a realistic snapshot of the ups and downs of growing up. Lewis’ stunningly identifiable voice, coupled with its turbulent themes of love, loss and heartache, make it a debut album that is both poignant and unequivocally relatable.

Capaldi was hailed as a 2018 Vevo DSCVR Artist To Watch, longlisted for the BBC Sound Of 2018 Poll, and won Breakthrough Artist of the Year honors at the Scottish Music Awards. He is among the Top 350 most listened to artists on Spotify. Capaldi has toured with Rag’n’Bone ManNiall Horan, and Sam Smith, and performed at such festivals as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Mountain Jam, Splendour in the Grass, Fuji, and Osheaga. He was recently nominated for the BRIT Awards 2019 Critics’ Choice award and named an MTV UK PUSH Ones To Watch artist.  TIME said, “Lewis Capaldi has the kind of deep, textured voice that you could listen to for hours. He finds expressive rough edges, then smooths them out into the sweetest of notes.”

The Japan National Tourism Organization announced that more than 30 million overseas travelers visited Japan in 2018, an all-time record and an 8.7% increase over 2017 (the previous record year).

“Tourism to Japan from the United States – about 5% of the total – soared 11%,” says Naohito Ise, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization in New York, “with more and more Americans seeking beyond the classic tourism destinations of Tokyo and Kyoto to discover lesser-known parts of the country.”

“American tourism to Japan is expected to continue to rise in 2019 as the country builds up to host major international sporting events,” continued Ise, “with a host of prestigious American media including Japan in their much-valued annual lists of the most recommended places to visit in the coming year.” The list of media is unusually impressive, including the New York Times, theWall Street JournalAFAR, Architectural Digest, Departures, Fodor’s, and Frommer’s.

Maggie Rogers

[On Give A Little] Rogers churned out a cathartic pop song about empathy and unity

Toss in a righteous guitar riff, plus a cascade of affirming handclaps, and Rogers emerges with a much-needed sunbeam of a song.” – Pitchfork

Give A Little is a natural and groovy extension of her stunning organic soundscapes.” –V Magazine

Like every song she puts out, [Give A Little] is a surprise that further proves her dexterity and versatility as an artist.” –Paper

It’s a warm, rippling pop song that makes the most of Rogers’ graceful, approachable voice. It already sounds like a hit.” –Stereogum

Today Maggie Rogers debuts the video for her new track Give A Little from her forthcoming debut album on Capitol Records. Filmed in Pacoima, CA the video was co-directed by Rogers and Alan Del Rio Ortiz and features Rachel Matthews, Camila Mendes, Myriah Rose, Firefly, Makayla Menard and Bridget Gamble.

Watch it HERE.

I had so much fun directing this video alongside Alan Del Rio Ortiz,” says Rogers. “I was obsessed with 70s skate culture in high school and really just wanted to have a silly day recreating my favorite scenes from Lords of Dogtown and paying homage to my favorite Farrah Fawcett photos. Those early skate videos feel so raw and powerful, it was important to me to show that that energy could also be female. It was super special to have my two college pals, Rachel Matthews and Camila Mendes, along for the ride. We’ve been friends since the first week of our freshman year, but our schedules have gotten so beautifully and amazingly kind of crazy since we graduated a couple years ago. It was so much fun just to spend the day dancing and giggling with each other like the old days.

Produced by GRAMMY winning producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Foo Fighters) and Rogers, the upbeat, effervescent song can be streamed / downloaded HERE. Give A Little follows the acclaimed single Fallingwater, which NPR hailed as a powerful, mesmerizing depiction of Rogers’ transition over the last two years a celebration of the terrifying yet thrilling process of change.

Rogers will kick off a North American headline tour on October 15 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. The run will include shows at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA (October 18), The Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL (October 30) and Royale in Boston, MA (November 5). Mallrat will support on all dates- see all dates here. The outing marks Rogers’ first headline tour since her summer 2017 outing, which sold out in minutes.
Rogers will also headline two sold out shows at Koko in London (August 29 + 30) following her performances at the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festival. She will also perform at the Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin, TN (September 22 + 23) and co-headline the 2018 All Things Go Fall Classic, one of Washington, DC’s largest signature festivals. She and LPX (Lizzy Plapinger) curated for opening day, October 6.

Maggie Rogers is a producer, songwriter and performer from Easton, Maryland. After her education at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she released her breakout single Alaska and subsequent critically acclaimed debut EP, Now That The Light Is Fading. Alaska has since charted in Spotify’s Viral 50 in 40 countries, hit #1 in 23 countries and now has over 100 million global combined streams to date. The BBC, Tidal, Google Play, Vevo, Pandora and numerous publications including Rolling Stone, NYLON, SPIN, Billboard and more have tipped her as an artist to watch. NPR named her one of its Favorite Musicians and The New Yorker declares, Maggie Rogers is an artist of her time.

TV On The Radio

“For various reasons this record means a LOT to us and we’re thrilled have a chance to play it in its entirety, in New York, nonetheless. I’d say it’s gonna be a special night.” -Tunde Adebimpe

Yesterday, TV On The Radio announced a concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their groundbreaking album “Dear Science” to be performed on September 20, 2018, at Knockdown Center in New York. The band will play the album in its entirety. Tickets may be purchase HERE.

TV on the Radio has been called “the most vital band in America” (Associated Press), “one the most compelling rock and roll stories of the modern age” (BBC), “the most innovative band on the planet” (AV Club) and simply “superb” (Rolling Stone). In short, TV on the Radio established themselves as the most groundbreaking musicians of this generation and one of the most influential bands of the decade.

The band’s 2008 album Dear Science was voted #1 by fans in Pitchfork’s Reader’s Poll and the #1 album in the Village Voice’s Pazz and Jop poll (composed of reviews by more than 800 critics). TV on the Radio consistently confounds expectations while managing to balance respect from critics and peers alike.

Grammy nominated, TV On The Radio – Tunde Adebimpe, Jaleel Bunton, Kyp Malone, Dave Sitek and formerly the late Gerard Smith has been awarded the Short List Music Prize, asked by David Bowie to collaborate, performed on every continent, sold out both the Apollo Theater and Radio City Music Hall, graced the stages of every late night show including Saturday Night Live, and shot a music video with Pee Wee Herman.

Praise for DEAR SCIENCE:

“TV On the Radio’s third album proper, managed to pull off something rather special: it boldly took guitars where no album had gone before. And it did so with more creativity, daring and flair than any record since Radiohead’s OK Computer.” -The Guardian

“Dear Science is a brilliant balancing act between pop aspiration and music-geek aesthetics.” -Rolling Stone

“On ‘Dear Science,’TVOTR embraces emotions of the here and now — lust, anger, the dancer’s bliss.” -Ann Powers Los Angeles Times

“Career-defining stuff.” -The Guardian

“Yes, this is shit-hot thrilling music. But it’s also brainy and ambivalent, and more engaging for it.” -Pitchfork

“TV on the Radio traded its noisiness for clarity, the better to reveal the workings of its ambitious, multilayered songs: programming and hands-on playing, rock and funk, elegies and dance grooves, accusations and embraces. Each song follows its own idiosyncratic path from mourning to affirmation.” – New York Times
