NYC-Based Band “All Types of Kinds”

Mixing A Unique Blend of Influences From Rock to Blues, Folk, and Hip-Hop – The Bands Unique Multi-Genre Approach Lends A New Perspective to Alternative Music

In a city often oversaturated with musicians of every genre constantly performing and creating, it takes a special group of artists to truly stand out amongst the crowd that produce a truly unique sound, and New York City’s All Types of Kinds truly live up to the namesake.

All Types of Kinds (or ATOK) plays a wide variety of music ranging from rock to pop, folk, punk, funk, hip-hop, blues, jazz, and country – even sometimes all at once. The members come from diverse backgrounds that make for an amalgamation of musical textures and vibes. Their EP, “Love Songs (Or Songs For Your Ex)” debuted on Valentine’s Day 2018 and they are currently gearing for dates all over the country.

The band consist of Ray Rubio (Guitar), Billy Conahan (Guitar), Berk 0 (Percussion), and Rocco Stroker (Guitar) – all of whom have unique musical backgrounds. Ray, 20, a multi genre artist and singer/songwriter, hails from Harlem NY and has also been on stage from young age, mainly theater productions. Ray attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2014, and since then has been performing his music in the New York Metro Area and Richmond, Virginia. Billy, 25, is a queens native whose been on the stage since his early teens as a stand-up comedian, singer/songwriter folk artist playing his own folk tunes as well as cover tunes. Berk O, singer and percussionist, is from Brooklyn and also contributes to the band’s songwriting process, while Rocco is the newest member of the band – playing bass, guitar and as an incredible vocalist. He hails from New Fairfield, Connecticut.

With the goal of becoming a full-time, self-sufficient, self-produced band, able to tour and create their own audio and video products on a regular basis, they plan to soon follow up their debut with a sophomore effort in late 2018. Unlike other bands who strive for major-label greatness, ATOK shys away from fitting into an industry mold, and often scoff at the idea of being referred to as a ‘boy band’.

Believers in finding a way to share their music while remaining firmly in the driver’s seat, they continue to write, practice, and enjoy playing their music for any crowd that will have them. Making friends from all over the world by busking on the NYC streets has even allowed them to meet and collaborate with like-minded musicians.

These recent “Your Big Break” contest winners who’ve been praised for their “polished precision, sweet harmony, musicianship, artistry, versatility and originality in their smart lyrics” are ready for the big time. That time is now.

Liquid Phase

The Song Chronicles the Journey of Singer Joe Coss and His Travels From LI’s East End to New York City As He Worked as Lead Mechanical Engineer on the new World Trade Center

From 2005 to 2013, Joe Coss – lead vocalist of Long Island based band Liquid Phase spent his days traveling from Long Island to downtown New York City to work as the Lead Mechanical Engineer on the new World Trade Center. His journey became chronicled in the band’s song “Bright Colors”, which brings to light the poetic landscapes from the cliffs of the East end to the “Castles” of the cities skyline.

Liquid Phase, the NYC Rock Band from Montauk, is a five piece rock outfit featuring Coss on Vocals and Guitar, Jamie Grubb on Keyboards, Dan Zellan on Guitar and Vocals, Dan Collins on Bass, and Steve Collins on Drums. The band brought its diverse blend of colorful laid-back surf and skate beach music as well as its hard hitting electric rock and alternative sound to stages across the U.S., opening for guitar legend Slash of Guns n’ Roses and famed Southern Rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Watch: “Bright Colors” Video

“Bright Colors” is an infectiously upbeat song which brings to light Coss’s love for both the city whose most triumphant landmark he’s had the privilege of erecting to the oceanside oasis that is Montauk, NY. This comes to light in the songs lyrics “See a row of purple roses live on the oceanfront // And the cliffs of Earth eroding slower than we have fun // When I climbed up the iron ladder the sky was the bluest one // Looking out as our friends were leaving just as the keg was done” and coming full-circle with “Look West as the sun sets, castle stands in our way // Out East there’s an orange moonrise, radar’s aimed our way”.

The song – coupled with Coss’s diverse background (from his days as a Berklee College of Music student to his work in theoretical physics) and his relationship with legendary Singer/Songwriter Paul Simon and wife Edie Brickell – have made for an incredibly unique blend of infectious rock and pop. The band was invited by Brickell to rehearse in Simon’s home studio in Montauk while Joe also worked on Guitar Lead’s and Charts with Edie before receiving a prized gift – Edie’s custom Orange Electric Tom Anderson Guitar.

Now, as the band continues to write and perform throughout the NY area and all over Long Island – they’ll bring their unique sound to fans new and old!

CHILDREN × HEARING LOSS

Have Your Child Screened by an Audiologist if You Suspect Hearing Loss

As children get back to school, keep in mind that academic struggles may be a sign of hearing loss

According to the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, about two to three out of every 1,000 children in the United States are born with a detectable level of hearing loss in one or both ears. The total number of children with some type of hearing loss is unknown and many cases go undiagnosed. Children with mild hearing loss may go undetected but could experience an impact on their learning ability and schoolwork.  The American Academy of Audiology is working to educate the public on the importance of hearing health, particularly in children.

While most infants’ hearing is tested, ear infections in subsequent years and exposure to loud noises as well as various illness or genetic traits can lead to hearing loss. Five out of six children experience ear infections in their first three years.

“A child with just minor hearing loss can be missing 50 percent of the classroom discussion,” said Jackie Clark, Ph.D., president of the American Academy of Audiology.  “There are children who have been diagnosed with a learning disability when really what they need are hearing aids.”

Lack of hearing can lead to behavioral issues, lack of focus, even depression in children. Children with hearing loss often don’t recognize that they can’t hear and parents don’t always know the signs.

Here are some of the signs parents and teachers should look for:

·         Child has difficulty following through with assignments and often doesn’t seem to

understand the task

·         Child often doesn’t understand questions and either does not respond or doesn’t respond appropriately

·         Child’s speech is different from other children the same age. He/she may struggle to pronounce simple words or is unable to repeat a phrase. May have problems articulating or language delays.

·         Child often asks you to repeat things or watches your face intently trying to understand what you’re saying

·         Child has difficulty hearing on the phone

·         Child speaks loudly when not warranted

·         Child has chronic ear pain

·         Child often complains of noises he/she cannot identify

·         Child cannot keep up academically

“Often parents and teachers overlook the fact that a child’s behavior may be a sign of hearing loss,” Clark explained.  “If parents suspect an issue, they should have their child evaluated by an audiologist.  Audiologists have the tools and training to identify hearing loss, degrees of hearing loss, and can recommend solutions.”

DJ SNAKE RELEASES VIDEO FOR “A DIFFERENT WAY,” FEAT. LAUV, TODAY ON VEVO

Grammy-nominated French DJ and producer DJ Snake releases the video for his single “A Different Way” featuring Lauv today on Vevo. Watch it HERE.

The heart-warming, uplifting video was directed by award-winning director Colin Tilley (DJ Khaled & Rihanna’s “Wild Thoughts,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” Future’s “Mask Off”), who also shot DJ Snake’s video for his single “Middle.” Tilley’s involvement in the video brings the journey of “A Different Way” full circle, as the director also captured DJ Snake’s journey in September through the streets of Paris that culminated in a historic performance atop the Arc De Triomphe where he originally premiered the track. The event was broadcast to over three million fans on Facebook and Instagram Live. Tilley also shot the Beats By Dre short film featuring DJ Snake’s story to his rise as part of its #AboveTheNoise global campaign for the newly launched Beats Studio3 Wireless headphone. Watch it here.

Shot in Los Angeles, the video for “A Different Way” prominently features Sheadan Gabriel, a young dancer and actor most known for his work with Justin Bieber, as well as singer, actress, and dancer Internet personality Montana Tucker.

DJ Snake has been nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Artist in Electronic Dance Music. The awards will be handed out live this Sunday, November 19th, at 8/7c on ABC.

DJ Snake (AKA William Grigahcine) has had an incredible year since releasing his debut album, Encore, last August. The album hit No. 1 on the Dance chart and Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and debuted in the Top 10 around the world, including at No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. DJ Snake also scored his first No. 1 record last year with “Let Me Love You,” featuring Justin Bieber, which has been certified 4x-platinum. He has since amassed over 3.5 billion streams, thanks to the success of his additional hits “Turn Down For What,” “Get Low,” “You Know You Like It,” “Lean On,” and “Middle.” In addition, DJ Snake spent the year headlining festivals worldwide including Lollapalooza Paris and Chicago, HARD Summer, Ultra Miami, and Tomorrowland, and closing out Coachella’s Outdoor Stage in April.

Switchfoot Teams Up With LifehouseTo Release Brand New Song

Shine Like Gold

To Benefit Houston

Recovery

September 5th Houston, TX House of Blues Show Is On As Planned!

After the devastating storm that struck Texas, SWITCHFOOT and LIFEHOUSE wanted to do something together to give back and wrote a brand new song titled, “Shine Like Gold,” which exclusively premiered on People.com. All proceeds from “Shine Like Gold” will be donated to aid Houston’s recovery in partnership with Food for the Hungry. SWITCHFOOT and LIFEHOUSE are currently touring with each other for the first time ever on the “Looking For Summer” Tour. The bands will collectively be performing the song together at the September 5th House of Blues show in Houston, Texas.

On the new song and upcoming Houston show, Jon Foreman shares: “Jason and I had always talked about writing a song together. When it finally happened, ‘Shine Like Gold’ became a song about everyday heroes fighting their way through the darkness toward the light. On the day we recorded the song, Hurricane Harvey began wreaking havoc in Texas. Sometimes you don’t know what a song is for until after its written. In this case it became crystal clear. As we watched our friends and family in Texas struggle through the aftermath of the hurricane, we knew exactly what we had to do. We LOVE Houston. Houston is resilient and will rebuild. We’re honored to be in Houston next Tuesday to bring hope and healing the best way we know how.”

On “Shine Like Gold” and the upcoming Houston show, LIFEHOUSE’s Jason Wade said: “We can’t imagine what everyone is going through right now in Houston, but they’ve all been in our thoughts and prayers. We look forward to playing this show, standing alongside this amazing city and doing everything in our power to help. Jon and I started writing “Shine Like Gold” at the beginning of this tour, but it wasn’t until we recorded it in Nashville that we really knew what it was about. Seeing all of these amazing individuals who’ve sacrifice for their neighbors, and stepped up in the face of extreme hardship has been so inspiring. This song is for them. All of the proceeds from this song are going to Houston for the unsung heroes that do the right thing when no one is watching. All the love.”

Formed in San Diego in 1996, SWITCHFOOT is Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Jerome Fontamillas (keyboard, guitar), Drew Shirley (guitar), and Chad Butler (drums). Since their start, the band has sold over 5.7 million copies worldwide of their first nine studio albums (including their 2003 double-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown and 2009’s Grammy Award-winning Hello Hurricane), racked up a string of Alternative radio hit singles, and performed sold-out world tours with over 4 million concert tickets worldwide.

SWITCHFOOT released their latest album, Where The Light Shines Through, on July 8th, 2016 via Vanguard Records. Where The Light Shines Through is the band’s tenth album and the first since 2014’s highly acclaimed Fading West. The album was self-produced in collaboration with John Fields, who helmed the multi-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown.

Beyond their career achievements, SWITCHFOOT has also been active in a variety of philanthropic efforts, raising over a million dollars to aid kids in their community through the band’s own Bro-Am Foundation, a long-running annual benefit surf contest and concert that’s held every summer in Encinitas, CA. $1 of every ticket sale will be donated to SWITCHFOOT’s BRO-AM Foundation providing services to underprivileged and disadvantaged youth. They’ve also maintained a deep commitment to a variety of humanitarian causes, lending their support to such worthy organizations as CURE International, DATA, the ONE Campaign, Habitat for Humanity, Invisible Children, and To Write Love on Her Arms.

Multi-platinum award-winning rock band LIFEHOUSE recently released their first hits compilation, LIFEHOUSE: Greatest Hits, on CD and all digital retailers. The 18-track selection will include a multitude of their chart-topping hits, including “You and Me,” “First Time”, “Halfway Gone,” “Hurricane” and “Hanging by a Moment,” which was the most played radio track of 2001. To mark the release, LIFEHOUSE, which includes Jason Wade (lead vocals, guitar), Bryce Soderberg (bass, vocals) and Ricky Woolstenhulme Jr. (drums, percussion), are co-headlining a U.S. tour with SWITCHFOOT, which will wrap September 10 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco after a show on September 9 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles (tour dates below). LIFEHOUSE was formed in Los Angeles by singer/songwriter/guitarist Jason Wade, bassist Bryce Soderberg and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. as Blyss in 1999, attracting the attention of producer Jude Cole. LIFEHOUSE’s music has always been radio-friendly, but the band’s success is as much for lead singer/guitarist Jason Wade’s “sonorous” vocals and spiritual songwriting as it is for the band’s well-honed cohesion as performers. Since 2000, LIFEHOUSE have released seven albums that have cumulatively sold 15 million around the world.

Multi-platinum recording artist, DEV is set to release her sophomore album, I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’ (IOSYWID) September 8, which is available for pre-order now HERE! Fans who pre-order the album will receive two new songs, the sassy-sweet “All I Wanna Do,” and the female anthem “Come At Me.” This will mark DEV’s first album to be released simultaneously to retail and streaming platforms. With a crew of collaborators that include Sarah Hudson (Katy Perry, Halsey, Rita Ora), MNDR, Marko Penn and producers Sam Sumser, Ritual, Isaac Valens and Mike Mac, the album finds Dev reclaiming her bass-heavy hip-pop beats that shot her to chart stardom, but with a reinvigorated sense of singer-songwriter swagger.

(Album artwork; Photo Credit: Maezee Tailes)

“All I Wanna Do” prompts the familiar Dev-like bounce, while lyrically the track ventures into Minaj-worthy raunch, but it’s Dev’s vocals and harmonies that shine through the sass. “The balance of how bouncy it is, but with how sexy and girly the lyrics and melody are fit really well,” Dev says of the track. “Usually a lot of male driven songs will usually be like ‘I wanna F you!’ so this will be so fun to perform from my point of view.” The additional release, “Come at Me” is somewhat of a yin to “All I Wanna Do”’s yang. Lyrically, Dev urges a “don’t-take-any-BS” attitude over a highly catchy melody.

In it’s entirety, IOSYWID, serves as ode to Dev’s past—the good, the bad, the fun and the sad. Inspired by dreams and thoughts about those who she has since lost touch with, the vibe of the album radiates a theme of self-reflection from her current perspective. Dev takes listeners on a full-circle journey from late night sexting (“Drunk Texting” – OUT Thursday 8/4!) to piano-laden heartbreak (“Alone Again”)

This full-length album follows Dev’s break-out 2012 debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up, which features the platinum “In the Dark,” and landed her critical acclaim, spots on influential end-of-year lists, numerous brand syncs and commercial success. In 2013 and 2014 she released two complimenting EPs, Bittersweet July Part I and Bittersweet July Part II. 2016 saw the release and success of “#1” f/ Nef the Pharoah, which peaked at #15 on the rhythmic radio chart. With over 350M video views, a Billboard #1 hit, multi-platinum & gold certified song successes, and countless collaborations, IOSYWID promises to propel Dev as the sleek, speak-sing, pop pioneer of her generation.

Q&A’s

Tell us about your new album. How did it come together? Who did you work with?

  • My new album! It’s called I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’ and I had an awesome opportunity to work with a bunch of different people on this project. Amazing artists, writers and producers. Everyone involved in this album helped to push me out of my comfort zones and create everything I could’ve wanted. I had such a specific vision for this project. I was having vivid dreams of someone who I no longer speak to and these songs reflect that person and specific moments of my past. I’m so happy with the overall outcome and I’m so excited for everyone to listen!! Shout out to Marko Penn, Isaac Valens, The 87’s, MNDR & Rey Reel

—Do you have a favorite track or tracks on the album? Why?

I love them all for different reasons! There’s some slaps, some with more emotional vibes and even a couple voice notes from people close to me. It was a process of gathering these songs over the course of two years so they’re all special to me.

—It’s been 5 years since your debut album. Since then you’ve put out some mixtape EPs and singles. Why the long gap in between LPs?

  • Honestly, the timing never felt right to release album 2 until now. I had been through a lawsuit for a year and a half where I couldn’t release music, my daughter was born with a gnarly birth defect that had us living in and out of the hospital, I never stopped touring and I was in the studio a bunch, so everything felt very intense for a few years. I needed to keep living, experiencing and finally come around to putting together songs that felt right. I had the opportunity coming off of having successful songs in the past to be true to myself and be patient. And one day the list of songs came together, the title and I knew it was right!

—How have you changed since your debut album? Musically and personally?

  • I’ve grown up a bit since my first project. I’ve grown more aware and appreciative of life and opportunity. I still love to pop bottles though lol! But I think the lessons I’ve learned in the past 5 years have been crucial to me becoming the BEST ME & I’m getting there.

—How do you think your fans will react to this new body of music? And do you feel like it’s different from the previous music you’ve put out?

  • I hope they’ll love it! I hope it makes them happy and want to have a good time! I think this project isn’t as “dancey” if you will – as my first project, but the core of who I am is still very present. Times have changed and music continues to change, so there’s obvious differences, but it’s still allllllll me!

—Can fans expect to see you on tour soon?

  • Yes! I’ll be announcing dates very soon! I can’t wait to get back on the road.

—Any fun stories from the studio you can share?

  • So many fun times recording this project! I’ll never forget the night I was working on ‘come at me’ and when I was finished we opened all the doors to the outside are and played it super loud and I remember feeling infinite. All of a sudden all the crazy shit I went through in the past 5 years didn’t matter/we’re okay. I felt strong. I’m sure the neighbors hated that I played it 100 times haha but I couldn’t help it. It was awesome. That feeling is why I make music, it’s pretty indescribable.

—What are the most important lessons you have learned on your journey in the music industry?

  • The most important lessons: stay true to yourself, no one else can ever be you even if they try! Surround yourself with the right people, people who believe in you even when you might slightly question yourself. Work hard and then work even harder. And live in the moment! Music is a magical thing.

—Any particular people you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

  • Robyn. Karen O. Nelly Furtado. Gwen Stefani. Flume. Mnek. Mo. I don’t know I’m a fan of so many people!

—Describe the sound of the new album.

  •  It’s light. Wild. Fun. Top down on an unexpected road trip type album.
