ImPOWER Youth is a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and empowering youth to believe in themselves and discover their full potential through mentorship, exposure to opportunities, and life skills development.
Nearly 200 people came out in support of ImPOWER Youth and their programs in leadership development, financial literacy, and community building.

Actress Savannah May can next be seen leading the cast of the Lifetime original movie, “The Secret Lives of Cheerleaders” opposite Denise Richards. In the movie, Savannah plays ‘Ava’ an incoming transfer student, reluctantly tries out for the cheerleading team at the insistence of her overly-ambitious mother, Candice (Richards). Katrina (Allie DeBerry, A.N.T Farm), the head cheerleader and most popular girl in school, unexpectedly cozies up to Ava who makes the squad and instantly becomes high school royalty. As she transitions into her new life, Ava discovers becoming part of the squad comes at a price. “The Secret Lives of Cheerleaders” is produced by HYBRID. Savannah was born on August 12, 2000 in Sugarland, Texas. At the age of 4, she caught the acting bug after seeing her first musical with her family. She would go on to explore her talents to become a triple threat in singing, dancing and acting. At 11-years-old, Savannah started training at the Theater Under the Stars (TUTS), Humphrey School of Musical Theater where she trained for over 5 years to develop her craft. She has performed alongside multiple respected Broadway alumni through TUTS and performed for iTheatrics in New York City. Through iTheatrics, Savannah had the opportunity to perform on Broadway with the cast of “Chicago” for a special tribute (what year did this happen). Cast performers at the time included Chita Rivera (Sweet Charity), Bebe Neuwirth (Cheers, Jumanji), Joel Grey (Cabaret) and more to celebrate John Kander’s 90th birthday. Years later she would move to Los Angeles to pursue acting, booking her first full-time gig on the pilot of Nickelodeon’s “Knight Squad,” which debuted in the Spring of 2018. Savannah also appeared in Nickelodeon’s “School of Rock” (2017), Disney’s “Bizaardvark” (2016) playing Jade, and now she’s filming season 2 of Nickelodeon’s “Knight Squad,” premiere in early 2019.

Many cities in California and Texas have poor patient-reported pediatric care, according to a new 2017 Vitals Access to Pediatricians report. Vitals researched the top 200 American cities to find out which metros have access to the best and worst pediatric care.
The study also revealed that mid-sized cities scored better in categories such as access and quality. Aurora, Illinois ranked #1 on the list, followed by Madison, Wisconsin at #2, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, #3.
When creating the list of America’s Top Cities for Access to Pediatric Care, Vitals analyzed the number of pediatricians available in each city on a per-capita basis for their under-18 population. Patient-reported metrics such as ease of getting an appointment, pediatrician ratings, and wait times were also factored into the final rankings.
California and Texas each had 8 of the bottom 20 cities in the rankings. Many of the cities ranked in the bottom had under-18 populations higher than the national average of 24.7 percent.

Wait time also affected the overall ranking of pediatricians. Pediatricians in the top cities kept wait times under 13 minutes (the lowest wait time being close to 10 minutes). The national average is 18 minutes, 35. Patients from cities at the bottom of the list reported wait times that stretched over 30 minutes. Five Texan cities and three Californian cities were among the bottom cities.

GapKids is celebrating kids returning to the classroom with the “Forward with” campaign and short film series by highlighting the people who help shape kids’ futures. In partnership with global content leader Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), the final short in the series, ‘Forward with Kindness,’ is inspired by the studio’s eagerly anticipated feature film Wonder, and features star Jacob TremblayandR.J. Palacio, author of the New York Times best seller from which the motion picture was adapted.
The GapKids ‘Forward with’campaign is a celebration of progress. It’s about extending the idea of “dressing” beyond clothing to the traits and behaviors that will lead to kids’ success. It’s about preparing kids to advance their passions by giving them the confidence, encouragement, and support they need to go forward, and it’s about calling out some amazing parents, teachers and mentors who take the time every day to dress kids with courage, kindness and possibility.

‘Forward with Focus’ highlights meditation mentor Andres Gonzalez who has been breathing love and self-awareness into underserved communities as co-founder of the Holistic Life Foundation, a Baltimore based nonprofit organization committed to nurturing the wellness of children through yoga, mindfulness and self-care.
‘Forward with Creativity’ puts the spotlight on art instructor Sasha Sicurella who encourages self-expression through art as the founding director of the I AM: International Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works globally to provide opportunities for children to explore their identity through art and self portrait photography.
‘Forward with Kindness’ stars actor Jacob Tremblay, who plays Auggie Pullman in Lionsgate’s Wonder, and New York Times bestselling author R.J. Palacio. Wonder tells the heartwarming story of Auggie Pullman, a boy born with facial differences who can’t blend in because he was born to stand out, and teaches a classroom and community to move forward with kindness. The film opens in theaters on November 17 and features Academy Award® winner Julia Roberts and Oscar® nominee Owen Wilson. The short film draws upon the themes of acceptance, empathy and kindness in the classroom from Auggie’s inspiring story.
In addition to the short film series, GapKids is taking part in Lionsgate’s #ChooseKind movement leading up to the Wonder release in November.
Lionsgate, co-producer Walden Media, Random House Children’s Books, and GapKids are bringing the #ChooseKind movement to classrooms through the “Wonder Certified Kind Classroom” initiative, an educational program that focuses on teaching acts of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to third through sixth grade students.
Part of this initiative includes the GapKids #ChooseKind T-Shirt Design Contest, where students will be challenged to create a visualization of what kindness and inclusion mean to them as a design activity. Eight winning designs will be produced and sold in select U.S. GapKids stores and Gap.com starting on November 13, World Kindness Day. All profits will benefit myFace and Children’s Craniofacial Association, two non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting children with craniofacial differences.
Lastly, 400 participating classrooms will be eligible for GapKids-sponsored private Wonder screenings featuring a Facebook Q&A with select cast from the film.
