ABOUT JAKE MILLER

When an artist controls his destiny, he builds a lasting legacy.

Critically acclaimed Miami-raised and Los Angeles-based pop singer, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jake Miller takes matters into his own hands. Not only does he craft all of his beats and pen lyrics, but he also plays guitar and piano. This artisan approach adds a tactile touch and heartfelt honesty to pop augmented by funked-out swagger and soulful style. That sound not only pushed his cumulative plays past the 200-million-mark, but also caused the likes of USA Today to predict, “Miller seems to be on the precipice of the next level of fame. Now, the multi-talented rising star stands poised to reach those heights on his 2019 debut EP BASED ON A TRUE STORY.for RED MUSIC, and he personally built the foundation to do so.

“I feel like I’ve been working towards this for the past two years,” he explains. “Everything in my life changed-from relationships to business. I became happy when I realized I could produce my own material, be independent, and do all of this by myself. For the first time, it really felt like me.”

Since his emergence, Miller has quietly and diligently worked towards such artistic freedom. In 2015, he earned a breakthrough with “First Flight Home,” which moved over 100,000 digital singles. That same year, his Overnight EP yielded the fan favorite title track, which co-starred Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles in its sexy video. On this steady rise, he attracted a diehard following known as “the Millertary” and comprising 1 million Instagram followers, 600K Twitter followers, and 1.1 million Facebook “likes” and counting.  He shared the stage with everyone from Ariana Grande to Shawn Mendes, and he garnered the endorsement of People Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Billboard, Just Jared, and more. Entertainment Weekly proclaimed him among “9 Artists to Hear Now” and Live Nation pegged him on its Ones To Watch. Going independent in 2017, he taught himself how to produce and make beats, leading to a pair of full-length releases2:00AM IN L.A. and Silver Lining–buoyed by hits such as “Can’t Help Myself” and “The Girl That’s Underneath” [feat. Jabbar Hakeem].

In the making of those albums, he found his creative compass.

“When I started out, I would go to sessions and work with other producers,” he says. “However, I took all of 2017 and dedicated myself to learning how to produce. I went to Guitar Center and bought thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment that I didn’t know how to use like a grand piano and a saxophone. Then, I stayed in my apartment and watched thousands of hours of YouTube tutorials. I wanted to download as much info into my brain as possible, so I didn’t need anybody else going forward. That set the stage for me.”

Signed to RED MUSIC in the midst of a stacked headline tour, he dove into making more music. Miller turned the first page of this new chapter with the 2018 single “WAIT FOR YOU.” Merging eighties-esque synth bass and expansive melodies, it clocked over 1 million global streams in under two months.

The 2019 follow-up single “NIKES” illuminates another side of the artist. Backed by rich production, thick bass, and hummable guitar courtesy of Miller, it paints a nostalgic, yet personal picture of a broken relationship with lines like, “I still got your Nikes laying in my closet right there in the corner teasing in me…All they do is bring back memories.”

“I had gotten out of an eight-year relationship, and I realized that I had a pair of shoes sitting in my corner that weren’t mine,” he recalls. “It’s basically reminiscing on what we had. It’s emotional about the past, but it makes you think about the future. My favorite songs can hype you up and cause you to get emotional too.”

His forthcoming six-song EP entitled BASED ON A TRUE STORY. thrives on that dynamic diversity, hinging on an upbeat funky strut throughout and incorporating everything from live choir to horn sections. It showcases the scope of his sound.

In the end, Miller has just begun building his legacy.

“When you think of me as a person and an artist, I hope it inspires you to take life by the horns,” he leaves off. “If you want something, just go after it. No one is going to work as hard for you as you are. I want my story and music to inspire you to keep going towards being the best at whatever you want to be.”

Jake Miller’s BASED ON A TRUE STORY EP is available everywhere now.

ARIANA GRANDE’S RECORD BREAKING “thank u, next”

Today, multi-platinum, record-breaking superstar ARIANA GRANDE makes more history. Her brand new song, “thank u, next” claims the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with over 55.5 million streams in the U.S.

On Apple Music, she broke multiple records. “thank u, next” now holds the global record for “#1 Most-Streamed Pop Song First-Week on Apple Music.” She also reaches rarified air as the “only female artist to chart in the Top 5 songs first-week of release on Apple Music.”It represents a milestone moment for the singer. At Spotify, it captured both “the U.S. and Global One-Day streaming records for a female artist,” generating over 9 million plays worldwide and 4 million in the U.S. on the platform. Not to mention, it soared to #1 on iTunes, Amazon Music, and Tidal. It also debuted at #1 on the Official UK Singles chart, becoming the highest selling #1 debut of the year in the UK.

Jesse Palter’s Debut EP

Detroit-born, LA-based, prolific singer/songwriter Jesse Palter releases debut EP “The Paper Trail” October 22 on Artistry Music, featuring five tracks of aggressive, piano-pounding pop/rock in the vein of Carole King, Sarah McLachlan and Sara Bareilles. The first single going to radio is “Heavy Is The Crown,” an edgy, incisive pop-rocker examining narcisscism and victim-hood at is best.  Check it out here.

Comments Palter: “All of these songs are paving the way towards establishing myself as an artist and songwriter. My approach throughout this project was to find a way to capture a full snapshot of my life and what I’ve been going through. This is the beginning of what I hope will be a long, fulfilling journey.”

Palter, who launched her career in Detroit and Chicago before moving to Los Angeles to focus on her development as a pop artist, was supported in her sound and overall vision by producer Doug Petty, a veteran keyboardist who has worked with Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Nick Lachey and Lisa Loeb, among others. Petty kept the integrity of Palter’s songs from demo stage through the various layers and textures brought forth to compliment her unique artistry. A high caliber of studio musicians played on the project including bassists Tim Lefebvre and Alex Al and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Aaron Sterling.

With The Paper Trail EP, Palter has committed herself to the discipline of perfecting the craft of songwriting. She focused on strengthening her creative muscles to discover what melodies, lyrics and chord changes work best, allowing herself to be vulnerable, brave, and brutally honest at the same time. The songs are autobiographical, representing her life and what’s she’s been through.

Palter launched her jazz career as a teenager, performing oboe and trumpet in the school jazz band. She connected with singer/songwriter Andrew Gold (“Thank You For Being A Friend”), who brought her to Nashville to work on original material and record a demo, which generated interest with several major labels. At 15, she began working with the Grammy-winning production team the Bass Brothers (Eminem). Her skill for improvisational singing and a developing passion for legendary jazz vocalists, led to her shift towards jazz. She studied at the University Of Michigan as a jazz and contemplative studies major.

Her eclectic musical upbringing includes exposure to a wide array of music that inspired her to deeply respect the art of great songs and songwriters, from Carole King and Joni Mitchell, to Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and The Beatles. Music and singing was always in her blood. Her grandmother, Doris Raynor, was once an opera prodigy in NY.

In early 2019, Artistry Music will follow up The Paper Trail EP with the single “Sever The Ties” and a full-length debut album.

Paper Trail

A passionate, all at once melancholy and exuberant reflection on a love left behind that was divinely channeled and written in almost no time.

Heavy Is The Crown

An incisive pop rocker exploring the sweet spot between inviting infectiousness and biting criticism of a narcissistic person who plays the victim.

Alright In Time

The first song written with an outpouring of emotion that drove the creation of the project. For any creative soul who has ever been put in a restrictive box.

TMI (Wouldn’t You Like To Know)

Irrepressibly funky, slyly self-deprecating jab at her knack for putting foot in mouth.

The Wrong Girl

A brooding, warning filled power ballad put forth by a true Detroit bad ass.

LJay Currie x Free

Today, Entertainment/Motown Records released Ljay Currie‘s new EP, Free, a six-song collection that showcases the Los Angeles-based artist’s inventive, deeply melodic blend of hip-hop and R&B.

Download / stream Free HERE.

“The project is called Free because I’m a free spirit when it comes to my creative process,” says Currie, who names everyone from Lil Wayne to Coldplay among his main inspirations. “I don’t ever try to force anything, I just go with the flow and explore and see what I come up with. If the vibe is right, that’s what I’ll follow.”

Cumulative worldwide streams of lead single “Undercover” ft. Kiana Led, have already surpassed 1.3 million. The slow-burning yet uptempo number, driven by Currie’s graceful piano work, exemplifies the 20-year-old’s free-spirited approach. Singer-songwriter-actress Led provides smoldering vocals on the track, which captures the excitement of pushing the boundaries of a close friendship into something more. Currie and Led shot the official video at Dockweiler State Beach near Los Angeles International Airport. View “Undercover” HERE.

“Shots You Don’t Take,” another song on Free, nods to Currie’s basketball background. He turned down numerous Division I basketball scholarships in order to pursue a career in music and unfolds with a laid-back message of self-empowerment. With its layered rhythms and luminous guitar tones, the feel-good “555” draws inspiration from Currie’s love of numerology.

“When I was recording, I looked down at the clock and the time was 5:55,” he says. “I looked it up to see what that meant, and it’s about how there’s a big change coming, but you shouldn’t be afraid of it. Don’t be scared to try something new.”

Currie grew up in Gardena, California and credits the jazz and classic R&B records his dad played at home with giving him a feel for rhythm and melody. When he was 10, he taught himself to play piano by following along with YouTube tutorials. Within a few years, having also mastered drums and guitar, Currie began making beats and producing his own tracks. His former basketball coach, Derryck “Big Tank” Thornton, a longtime producer who’s worked with artists such as Mary J. Blige and Fabolous, was instrumental in convincing Currie’s parents that their son had as bright a future in the studio as he might have on the court. Thornton told them, “I’ve never heard anything like this before, just give me a year, and if he doesn’t have a record deal by then, I’ll make sure he’s back in school.”

Once Currie had built up a body of work, he and Thornton played his music for a number of major labels, and soon the young artist was signed to EP Entertainment/Motown Records. Currie recently sat down with Young California to talk about a wide range of topics, from his creative process and dream collaboration to the Motown legacy and his fondness for Fortnite.
