Flash Mob Disrupts UN 20,000 Rally For World Law to Save Humanity

A Broadway actor leapt over a barricade to the front of the United Nations Assembly and interrupted the proceedings with a demand for peace and world law to protect human rights for all.

“And if you won’t do it, step aside and a Peoples World Assembly will arise from our own ranks to do it,” shouted actor Garry Davis, a war veteran and former bomber pilot.

UN security forces grabbed Davis, but as they tussled with him, war-hero Robert Sarrazac leapt up on the opposite balcony and shouted in French: “In the name of the people of the world not represented here, I interrupt!”

Other protesters scattered among the audience leapt up to continue the speech: “The nations you represent divide us and lead us to the abyss of total war.”

Delegates were shocked–until it became clear this was a coordinated action. Then many applauded and joined in.

On December 9, outside the UN, 20,000 supporters rallied to demand that world law be passed to protect human rights for all.

The December 9th rally was a historic first, in that it occurred seventy years ago today, and was part of the massive people-power movement which helped trigger the unanimous passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) the very next day: December 10th, 1948.

In a clip released to the press at https://vimeo.com/297521680 one of the protesters, Pierre Bergé, said the interruption of the United Nations General Assembly in Paris was planned and executed by “very famous writers” including Albert Camus.

Bergé called the disruption “a political comedy” and said it was designed to give people hope for a better way to run our world. “We have to dream, because the only way to catch the reality is to dream.”

The hidden history of how one man’s bold action helped spark a massive movement on the eve of this great leap forward for humanity is told in a forthcoming film “The World is My Country.”

Here is an excerpt:

Because this 70th anniversary event is so relevant to the hot-button issues in today’s world, the filmmakers are making a special password-protected preview version available online–for one week only. To sign up for this advance preview click on this link and select “Free Preview.”

Los Angeles area media and others are invited to meet the director at a preview screening of the film December 8th at 6:30 PM at 3916 Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City 90230.

Helming the celebration of the 2018 EBONY Power 100 list honoring crusaders, innovators, disruptors, business titans, entrepreneurs and MVPs who are making a difference in the community at the EBONY Power 100 Gala is international award-winning actor Chris Tucker. Once a frequent stand-up performer on Def Comedy Jam in the 1990s, Tucker is best known today for playing Det. James Carter in the Rush Hour film series. Chris is currently returning to the stage on his stand-up comedy tour that has received rave reviews all over the world, while spending much of his spare time traveling and working with his foundation.

EBONY Media Operations CEO Michael Gibson will present the inaugural Chairman’s Award to former BET Chairman and CEO Debra Lee. The trailblazing business dynamo joined BET as executive vice president and general counsel in 1986, was promoted to president and COO of the network that reaches approximately 78 million homes in March 1996 and to chairman and CEO in 2005. She guided much of the 38-year-old network’s growth beyond music and into entertainment, news and public affairs programming, including original movies, late-night talk shows and concert specials, with successes such as bringing to cable The Game in 2014 and the miniseries. The New Edition Story in 2017, the launch of BET.com and the acquisition of the television rights to Black Girls Rock!

This year’s prestigious EBONY Icon Award will be presented to Motown Records. There simply isn’t a name in music more synonymous with era-defining hits, star-making, and innovation than Motown. Started in Detroit with a dream and an $800 loan, Berry Gordy’s Hitsville USA became a cultural behemoth that swiftly hooked pop culture with a brand new beat. The unmistakable, irrepressible sound of young America didn’t just dominate the charts–it crossed the racial divide during the social upheaval of the 1960’s. The hits and cultural influence doesn’t stop as Motown and its family of imprints explore new genres in partnerships with labels including Quality Control Music, which set the stage for signings of Migos and Lil Yachty. In recognition of the brand’s iconic relevance and impact, EBONY is pleased to honor Motowns decades of success. The award will be accepted by Motown President, and EVP of Capitol Music Group. Ethiopia Habtemariam, who is also honored in the Women Up category for her outstanding leadership in the music industry.

Habtemariam has ushered in a new generation of artists with acts like JAMESDAVIS, Lil Baby, City Girls, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Last summer, Billboard magazine recognized her as Universal Music Group’s Most Powerful African-American Woman.

“We are delighted to announce our celebrated host and award recipients for this year’s EBONY Power 100 Gala,” says Gibson. “Since unveiling our 2018 EBONY Power 100 List last month, the anticipation and buzz throughout the country has been very exciting to see. This year’s gala will surely prove to be the most memorable to date, and I would like to personally congratulate all our honorees.”

SKYY® Vodka Partners With John Cena To Continue Its “Proudly American” Campaign

The WWE Superstar, Actor, Television Personality and Humanitarian John Cena joins SKYY’s Progressively Bold Campaign, Debuts “The Pledge” Video

See the John Cena “The Pledge” Video here!

SKYY® Vodka, the San Francisco born premium vodka in the cobalt blue bottle, announces the addition of WWE Superstar, Actor, Television Personality and Humanitarian, John Cena, to its “Proudly American” campaign. Debuting a new digital video starring Cena, “The Pledge,” SKYY continues its positive platform in telling the stories of those who believe in celebrating the spirit of today’s bold Americans.

SKYY’s “Proudly American” campaign, which launched earlier this year, explores the values–and the evolution of those values–on which America was founded, and what they mean to today’s optimistic citizens. The campaign juxtaposes iconic phrases from American culture, such as “Home of the Brave,” with powerful, vivid imagery featuring people who shine brightly in the face of adversity, celebrate diversity, and are proud to inspire today;s articulation of being American,

The campaign reflects SKYY’s core beliefs which stem from the brand’s San Francisco roots–celebrating a progressive, diverse and innovative society.

This latest phrase of “Proudly American” features John Cena narrating a lighthearted take on the nation’s traditional pledge. Inherent freedoms such as ‘writing your own history’ and ‘you being you’ are overlaid against a background of a lively and inclusive America. Pairing smart humor with cinematic style, award-winning female director J.J. Alder captures John’s entertaining and celebratory personality as he inspires all to live their version of the American dream–whatever that may be. The spot is set to the music of Jai Wolf, a Bangladeshi-American artist whose family moved to America when he was one year old.

“I have always been proud to live in a country that promises people can live love, and thrive without restrictions,” says John Cena. “I am inspired by fans every day that share their stories of conquering adversity and believing who they are. SKYY’s dedication to embracing the ever-evolving America and offering a podium to those who embody, and at times even redefine, what it means to be American is a cause I stand proudly behind.”

“John Cena exemplifies SKYY’s Proudly American persona with his incredible spirit, work ethic, charisma, and dedication to inspiring others,” says Melanie Batchelor, Vice President of Marketing, Campari America. “He uses his considerable worldwide platform to encourage inclusiveness and positivity. We are honored to partner with him to carry forward the next phrase of SKYY’s Proudly American storytelling.”

As the newest partner with SKYY Vodka on this campaign, Cena joins a growing family of influencers and activists who have helped shape the “Proudly American” message, including out-and-proud Olympian Gus Kenworthy; writer and cultural curator Kimberly Drew; and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” talents, Trixie Mattel and Dusty Ray Bottoms.

The latest chapter in SKYY’s integrated campaign will launch before Thanksgiving, and will include out-of-home, digital, social media, PR and event activations. A full social media campaign @SKYYVodka will support Proudly American and connect those who are proud in their daily lives to share their stories and show their bold, optimistic American of today.
