5 Seconds of Summer “Easier”

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) explore rich sonic textures and rhythms – and reach exhilarating vocal heights – on their new single, “Easier.” The track, which marks the band’s first release since signing to Interscope Records, was produced by Andrew Watt, Louis Bell and Charlie Puth. Grant Singer (The Weeknd, Lorde) directed the mind-bending official video. Listen to “Easier” HERE. View the video HERE.

Says lead vocalist Luke Hemmings of the song, “’Easier’ is the most confident we have been in the first song to be released off one of our records. Visually and sonically it feels like we took what we uncovered about ourselves as a band on the last album and honed in on that sound and aura. I truly believe that ‘Easier’ is the beginning of the best era for 5SOS.”

‘’’Easier’ is the perfect depiction of the individual artistry within the band and how it comes together to create 5 Seconds of Summer,” says bassist Calum Hood. “This record is something we have subconsciously always needed to release. Accompanied by the euphoria and rawness of the video, ‘Easier’ is the best thing we’ve released yet.”

The band shot the video at two historic Southern California sites – the Bronson Caves in Griffith Park, and Angeles Abbey Memorial Park in Compton.

Director Grant Singer says, “We wanted to bring back the purely cinematic rush of the epic videos I grew up watching in the ‘90’s. Inspired by this idea of rebirth and the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water, we aimed for something dramatic and explosive, like nothing you’ve seen from the band before.”

5SOS is the only band (not vocal group) in chart history to see its first three full-length studio albums enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1. Across their catalog, 5SOS has sold more than eight million equivalent album units and sold over 2 million concert tickets worldwide, while cumulative streams of their songs now surpass seven billion. 5SOS – comprising Luke Hemmings (vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals/guitar), Calum Hood (vocals/bass) and Ashton Irwin (vocals/drums) – are recognized for an array for prestigious accolades including an American Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, eight MTV European Music Awards, five ARIA Awards, APRA and two MTV Video Music Awards. The band will be touring North America this fall.

5SOS Premieres Lie To Me Video

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) premiere the video for their track Lie To Me. Directed by Brandon Vaughn, (Bastille, Migos, Travis Scott) the video was filmed at the Irwindale Speedway in Los Angeles. Watch it HERE.

Lie To Me has amassed over 60 million streams worldwide, and was praised by Rolling Stone as one of the highlights of their chart topping 2018 album Youngblood, which made 5SOS the only band in history to see its first three full-length studio albums enter the Billboard at No. 1.

5SOS recently gave fans a holiday surprise with news of the release of Meet You There Tour Live a memento of the band’s extensive 2018 global headline tour. The 20-track collection includes live versions of numerous songs from Youngblood, including the Platinum-certified title track Want You Back, Valentine, She’s Kinda Hot, She Looks So Perfect, and more.

5 Seconds Of Summer Honor Queen With Cover Of “Killer Queen”

In honor of the life and legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, and in celebration of the upcoming biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, multi-platinum band 5 Seconds Of Summer release a cover of Queen’s 1974 seminal hit, “Killer Queen” today at all digital providers.  Stream/Download “Killer Queen” HERE.

Says 5SOS, “Queen have been such a massive influence on us as a band.  Their unique harmonies, the fluidity to their songwriting and how they each used their own musicality to back each other up have always inspired us.  We chose to cover, ‘Killer Queen’ because we kept hearing it while writing our third album, Youngblood and were so enamored by the production and their early realization of the minimalist approach to the track.  For us, the exploration of individual vocalists in a band is incredibly important and Queen helped us to see the future of how we want to sing, in addition to how we play our instruments.  As a pioneer of individuality, Freddie taught us what it means to embrace the idea of truly being yourself and that’s a part of Queen that lives on in their music now, more than ever.”

The song, produced by Linus, follows singer-songwriter and musician, Shawn Mendes’ acoustic interpretation of the iconic 1981 No. 1 hit, “Under Pressure” and was recorded as the second installment in a series of three artist covers in support of the Mercury Phoenix Trust (MPT).  The MPT was founded in 1992 by Brian MayRoger Taylor and Jim Beach to support the global fight against HIV/AIDS. 5SOS, together with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Queen, will donate net profits of the track to the MPT.

“Everyone at the Mercury Phoenix Trust is thrilled that 5 Seconds of Summer have joined our global campaign fighting AIDS in celebration of the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you 5SOS for giving us such an impeccable version of Freddie’s classic Killer Queen,” said Queen’s manager, Jim Beach.

5SOS Valentine Premiere

Today, 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) premiere the video for Valentine — the new track from their chart-topping new album Youngblood, out now on Capitol Records. The eye-catching video, which features the band members’ largely disembodied heads singing the lyrics against a black backdrop, interspersed with images of balloons, cherry pie, and skeletons, was directed by 5SOS’ Ashton Irwin and photographer, Andy DeLuca (Kendrick Lamar, Wolf Alice).

Watch it HERE.

Says Irwin, Collaboration has always been one of the key most important things about 5 Seconds Of Summer since day one and co-directing the video with Andy was an incredible and very fluid experience.  There are a few things we wanted to capture; the androgyny and the feminine element of the way Luke performs as well as the dark romance of the song.  This video is us taking something into our own hands and attempting to be a part of every single detail of what we create. We hope you enjoy it and I’m looking forward to making many more.”

5SOS are currently on the road for their North American Meet You There Tour — a 25-city headline outing that will conclude with a show at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on October 12th. The full itinerary can be found here.

Youngblood, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, expands 5SOS’ musical parameters while retaining the hooks and trademark DNA that’s always been a massive part of their appeal.  Rolling Stone declares, “5 Seconds of Summer shred on “Youngblood…(The track) has a relentless, thumping rhythm, around which (the band) move between delicate verses and a booming chorus… 5SOS could be on track to let this new sound carry them into a whole new era of their career.” Nylon raves, (‘Youngblood’) is…great. Like, really, really great” and Billboard says, “Youngblood’ is the perfect example of what can happen when you jump of out of the box and see what’s happening outside- in this case, swaggering tight-grooved pop with EDM inflections.”

5SOS is now the only band (not vocal group) in chart history to have its first three full-length studio albums enter the chart at No. 1. The album’s title track is a smash hit, with cumulative worldwide streams already surpassing 400 million. It hit No. 1 on both Apple Music’s biggest pop playlist, “Today’s Hits,” and Spotify’s “Today’s Top Hits” playlist, remaining on the latter for 20 consecutive weeks. The album’s first single, “Want You Back,” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes in over 18 countries earlier this year.

Combined sales of 5SOS’s self-titled debut album and 2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good now exceed six million units worldwide. Sounds Good Feels Good charted at No. 1 in 12 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., and Australia. She’s Kinda Hot topped the iTunes charts in 44 countries. 5SOS – which is Luke Hemmings (vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals/guitar), Calum Hood (vocals/bass), and Irwin (vocals/drums) – have won an American Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, five MTV European Music Awards, two ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. The band recently won three 2018 Teen Choice Awards – for Choice Song Group (“Youngblood,”) Choice Music Group and Choice Summer Group.

5 Seconds of Summer Premiere of “YOUNGBLOOD” Video

Open up your YouTube app because the heartthrob boy band 5 Seconds of Summer just released their video for new song Youngblood.

The track has a relentless thumping rhythm where the members are shown to switch from a delicate verses to a booming chorus that will have you singing at the top of your lungs. Their new song is a mixture between pop and EDM–getting the best of both worlds.

Their new album is out now on Capitol Records. The video, directed by Frank Borin, was filmed in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Tokyo. Check out this masterpiece of a video right here.

Not only do the band members find Japan aesthetically pleasing, but it has a much deeper meaning to them spiritually:

“There are many wonderful, interesting, and captivating subcultures all over the world. In every corner of this earth there are groups of inventors, visionaries, thrill seekers, and boundary pushers…The Japanese Rockabilly culture is that of a renaissance and a beautiful flare of passion for everything old and new and that makes this particular subculture so interesting and amazing to us. We hope you enjoy this video. Thank you for allowing us to be explorative with the concepts we choose to visually express our songs to you. Thank you to everyone that brought this video to life,” says the band’s vocal artist and drummer, Ashton Irwin.

Along with Irwin, the video’s director, Borin, shares:

“About 10 years ago I was shooting in Tokyo and was walking through Yoyogi park when I came upon this huge group of Japanese rockabilly guys and girls. Every Sunday, they were dressed to the nines in full rockabilly gear, doing their hair out in public, taping up their decades old boots, and dancing the day away to 50’s music blasting on their boombox. Flash forward to 10 years later, 5SOS was releasing Youngblood and the band and I were collaborating on another video together. The band were really into the ideas of highlighting the rockabilly crew and we hung out with them for a couple days. They took us around Tokyo and gave us a peak into their world which really lent itself to the spirit of the song and ultimately became the video.”

You can order tickets for 5SOS’s Meet You There Tour here as they are on sale now at LiveNation.com. It will be a 25-city North American headline outing that launches August 27 in Toronto, ON. The full itinerary can be found here.

Already, Youngblood is recorded to have debuted as No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. What’s cooler is that 5SOS is now the only band in chart history to see its first three-length studio albums enter the chart at No. 1.
