R&B superstar Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) continues her impressive winning streak after the release of her emo-leaning EP, Life on Earth. Debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart, the five-track serving proves to be a healthy entree for listeners enamored by Walker’s candor and dulcet vocals. Featuring NO1-NOAH (“SWV” & “White Tee”) and PARTYNEXTDOOR (“My Affection”), Walker brilliantly collides with both artists, while maintaining her entrancing mystique as R&B’s prized gem. Walker’s streaming excellence continues to be her calling card, as Life on Earth netted an astounding 32 million streams its opening week.
Even the pandemic can’t thwart Walker’s momentum, as her legion of supporters came in droves from various cities for her recent activations. In collaboration with Amazon Music, Walker’s Life on Earth UFO Listening Experience allowed fans in Atlanta to receive a first glimpse of the project inside of their cars. With Walker’s pink UFO on-site, her devotees soaked in the galactic experience at various showings throughout the evening. On release day, Walker treated her Atlanta fans once again with her spacey Battle on Earth Laser Tag experience at the Westside Cultural Arts Center. The singer’s altruism continued when she whipped up her Life on Earth Ice Cream Shuttle experience for her fans in New York City. With social distancing encouraged, fans safely ventured to several locations in NYC to meet the space shuttle for free ice cream and space candy from the LVRN songstress. For the cherry on top, Walker chatted with Apple Music’s R&B Now Radio to discuss her new EP, her creative process and more.
Walker’s scorching success continues to be the talk of the music industry. After her debut project Last Day of Summer spent 35 weeks on the Billboard 200, she quickly bloomed into an R&B powerhouse with her 2x platinum breakout single, “Girls Need Love” from her 2018 project Last Day of Summer. Walker would capitalize on her success with her magnum opus, 2019’s Over It. Residing on the Billboard 200 Top 10 for 11 weeks, Over It birthed an RIAA Gold single in “Come Thru” with Usher and a platinum single with her lead record, “Playing Games.” Over It remained a dominant force on the Billboard 200, spending 38 weeks in the top 40 and 40 weeks in the top 50, solidifying her torrid run as R&B’s most elite vocalist.
