Platinum-selling award-winning artist Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) begins her journey as an executive with her new imprint Ghetto Earth Records. The joint venture deal with Interscope Records lands Walker her first signee NO1-NOAH. The talented singer/songwriter recently partnered up with the Over It artist on her Life on Earth EP and together, they shined on “White Tee” and “SWV.”
“I came up with Ghetto Earth because earth is ghetto,” says Walker. “I don’t wanna be controlling over my artist’s music. I want them to be fully involved in everything they put out. I’m just here to support and help them get to wherever it is they’re trying to go in life.”
NO1-NOAH comments, “I’m excited to show people my music, and what I have to offer. I feel like being on Summer’s team, Ghetto Earth Records, is the right home for me to be as creative as possible as an artist. She’s really understanding of what a true artist is, as she is one herself. I’m free to create here and it’s always a great feeling as an artist to be able to make music for a team that gets the sound that you’re trying to create.”
“Summer is a true visionary. She’s writing her own rules as one of the most talented artists in R&B music today and is now adding entrepreneur to her vast repertoire,” says Interscope Records Nicole Wyskoarko, EVP/Co-Head of A&R. “Summer brings an unapologetically outspoken and empowering voice to Ghetto Earth and a radically different and much-needed perspective to developing emerging talent such as NO1-NOAH. We are thrilled that Summer has chosen Interscope as Ghetto Earth’s partner and home.”
SUMMER WALKER’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
On the artist front, Walker is having an incredible year. After gracing the cover of Billboard Magazine for their R&B / Hip-Hop Power Players issue last month, she starred alongside Erykah Badu for Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians cover. Her win streak continued when she walked away victorious at the Soul Train Music Awards last month, winning Album of the Year for Over It. Her latest feat adds to her growing collection of awards, as she previously netted wins at the iHeartRadio Music Awards for Best New R&B Artist and the Billboard Music Awards for Top R&B Female Artist.
Over It contains the platinum-certified single “Come Thru” and the double-platinum hit “Playing Games.” The latter has spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100. Over It has spent 49 weeks in the top 40 and 56 weeks in the top 50 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. In July, Walker’s EP, Life on Earth, debuted inside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 at No. 8.
