As mentioned in Pitchfork, the Texas dance rap scene began as a summertime blow-up, with a Triller app-made video featuring Lil Uzi Vert dancing alongside 10K. The clip, featuring the two in a dance called “The Woah” – “a herky-jerky bounce, followed by a sudden stop as if an emergency parking brake lever had been pulled” – was released via 10K’s Instagram account and went viral.
“The Woah” evolved “from a regional thing to a bona fide internet phenomenon with everyone from fashion influencer Luka Sabbat to … Chance the Rapper uploading videos of themselves hitting the move.”The New York Times was soon celebrating 10K for “single-handedly restoring early Beastie Boys mayhem to hip-hop,” choosing his debut mixtape The Creator as one of the best albums of 2019.
“Aloha” featuring G.U.N., produced by Kenny Beats, signaled 10K.Caash’s arrival at Def Jam 11 months ago. 10K and Kenny Beats reunited on “Wazzup” featuring G.U.N. & Dsmooth66, centerpiece of PLANET SWAJJUR, and prelude to the mixtape’s penultimate closing tracks, “Me And My Friends” featuring Chance The Rapper, and “Overtime” featuring Sexton.
