Complex released their December Cover featuring hip-hop legends, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre, coinciding with the release of their latest album, “Missionary.” More than three decades after the game-changing “Doggystyle” album, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are reuniting for “Missionary”—a project they believe fills a void in today’s hip-hop.
In addition to the cover feature story, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre sat down with Complex’s Jillian Hardeman-Webb for a documentary short film where they talk about being in their peak, their album-making process, and synergy together. The film features never-before-seen footage of the two in studio together, with Dre coaching Snoop alongside archival footage from over the years, released for the very first time today. Some highlights include:
- Being uninspired by hip-hop today – “I don’t want to be disrespectful to anybody right now, but I’m not really inspired by what’s happening with hip-hop these days.” –Dr. Dre
- Dream blunt rotation – “I really want to smoke with and do a record with Sade. I think we would have a nice time smoking and then going right into a session that Dr. Dre produced.” – Snoop Dogg
- Not listening to their old music – “I don’t listen to any of the songs I’ve ever made since 1985, which is when I started. I don’t even allow my family or anybody to play that shit around me.” –Dr. Dre
- Working with Sting – “Yeah, Sting is one of our heroes and it was amazing for him to jump on the song. And he actually sang our lyrics that he wrote. So it is amazing that he was down to do that.” –Dr. Dre
