After piling up tens of millions of streams and views independently, 16-year-old Rochester, NY hip-hop artist Slump6s unleashes a new single and music video entitled “Origin” via Field Trip Recordings/Republic Records.
On the track, a string sample and a claustrophobic beat drive the frenetic production as his hyperactive delivery bursts with energy. It illuminates his ability to flip like a switchblade between punchy verses and a chantable hook. With its psychedelic filters and rapid cuts, the accompanying visual reflects this kinetic motion as he turns up outside in Los Angeles. It also arrives on the heels of his latest single “Moment,” which Elevator Magazine highlighted the rapper as “part of the new generation of soundcloud rappers who are taking the internet by storm,” and Our Generation Music noted his “melodic delivery is able to adapt as the instrumental starts with a wavy synth and leads into heavier 808s”. However, everything just sets the stage for more music to come from Slump6s. Be on the lookout.
About Slump6s
As the culture evolves, the boundaries of hip-hop continue to expand as well. However, Slump6s pushes those limits even farther. The 16-year-old Rochester, NY artist and rapper wields his voice like an instrument. Rather than gliding atop beats or charging against them, his vocals entangle with the production, moving in calculated harmonic bursts of emotion. Growing up in Rochester, he studied and memorized videos of Michael Jackson on YouTube. Dad owned a studio and often recorded friends. By six-years-old, Slump6s would sing over pop’s beats and record himself. Throughout school, he participated in band and learned clarinet, trombone, trumpet, and drums. In eighth grade, he started to upload music to Soundcloud as an escape. At the top of 2020, he dropped “Spark” and ignited palpable buzz. As he piled on streams with singles such as “Up It” and his independent 16 EP, he attracted a rabid audience on social media. He rode this momentum into 2021, meeting BabySantana on Discord and teaming up for the breakout single “Antisocial.” Right out of the gate, it generated 27.9 million Spotify streams and 1.3 million views on the music video championed by Wav Guide and more. Landing a deal with Field Trip Recordings/Republic Records, he sharpened his signature style as only a sophomore in high school. After racking up 20 million-plus streams independently, he masterfully leans into an ever-evolving melodic sensibility on a series of singles in 2021 led by “Moment.”
