Saudi creative director spreads message of female empowerment in the U.S.

Creative Director Marriam Mossalli is making waves in the fashion world in her native Saudi Arabia and beyond. Enthusiastic and outspoken, Mossalli has been helping women find a way to artistically express themselves – and her mode of choice has been through fashion.

Mossalli has been working with local Saudi designers—many of them female—as they break fashion stereotypes in the region by combining elements of modernity into every-day Saudi dress. She has been advising these designers on how best to market their designs to appeal to women across the Middle East expressing themselves through fashion. As a result of her work as the head of the fashion consultancy Niche Arabia, Mossalli is also working with women-owned and run businesses in Saudi Arabia to secure a place for women as they cement their place in the workforce. Additionally, Mossalli is a fashion writer and editor who created the “Life & Style” section of OKAZ, the most circulated daily newspaper in Saudi Arabia; she currently writes for Harper’s BAZAAR, Marie Claire, and Style. All of her articles center on women’s social issues, and serve as a platform for dispelling misconceptions about the Middle East.

Mossalli will replicate the community engagement events for which she has become renowned at several events in the Los Angeles area from June 14-17. Her U.S. trip provide a unique opportunity to learn more about daily life in Saudi Arabia from a woman’s perspective, and profile an innovative, female leader starting global conversations about how millennial women are leading the modernization effort in Saudi Arabia.
