Thursday, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen won a $95 million defamation lawsuit brought by former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who said it was the British comedian who had discredited him on a show falsely accusing Moore of being a pedophile.
The Federal Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Manhattan (New York) approved a lower court ruling in favor of Sacha Baron Cohen and stated that Roy Moore had signed an agreement that he could not make any legal claim on his appearance.
The lawsuit focused on Moore’s inadvertent appearance on “Who Is America?” show. That bit of the show aired after Moore faced allegations of misconduct, saying that He had pursued romantic and sexual relationships with teenagers when he was 30. Moore denied any such allegations.
For years, Cohen has lured unwitting politicians into awkward interviews and even faced lawsuits over similar jokes.
