“For most people, this is going to be a time period where there’s no middle ground or great ground. You’re either going to thrive or you’re not. There’s no getting out of this the same way that you came into this.” – Questlove
Questlove joins award-winning guitarist/producer Eric Krasno on his special new podcast series. Presented by Osiris Media, ERIC KRASNO PLUS ONE sees the renowned musician hosting a one-of-a-kind interview series exploring the lives and work of some of his closest friends and musical collaborators. In episode 11, Krasno welcomes his friend Questlove on part one of a two-part episode. Questlove joins Krasno from his home in upstate New York to talk about learning to make beats on his computer during the lockdown, dealing with procrastination, and what he’s writing in his new book. Questlove recalls the time that Miles Davis appeared at his high school, what happened when he discovered Prince at the same time his parents discovered Christianity, and how The Roots got started.
Krasno plays the track “Proceed” by The Roots, at the end of the episode. Ahmir Khalib Thompson, aka “Questlove,” hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was born January 20, 1971. He is a drummer, DJ, producer, culinary entrepreneur, designer, New York Times bestselling and James Beard Award-nominated author, and co-founder of Philadelphia’s most influential hip-hop group, The Roots. He is the musical director for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where the Roots serve as the house band, and a four-time Grammy Award-winning musician. He is also an adjunct professor at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Upcoming Episodes of Plus One include part 2 of the conversation with Questlove, and future episodes feature with Phil Lesh, Ivan Neville, and more. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify through the official Osiris website, or wherever you get your podcasts.
For nearly two decades, Krasno has been an omnipresent figure in popular music, from his virtuosic, innovative guitar playing with Soulive and Lettuce (both of which he co-founded) to his GRAMMY® Award-winning work as a producer and songwriter for artists like Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone, to name but a few. As if that weren’t enough, the New York-based artist has proven an invaluable session player and touring musician alongside the likes of the Rolling Stones, Dave Mathews Band, John Mayer, Oteil & Friends, and The Roots. Along with their work together on stage and in the studio, Krasno has spent countless hours sharing stories with these incredible artists and these intimate moments have become some of his most cherished memories.
