RISING ARTIST OLIVER MALCOLM RELEASES NEW TRACK “HELEN” — LISTEN NOW

Swedish born, London raised artist Oliver Malcolm has followed up with a brand new single, “Helen” (out on Darkroom/Interscope Records). The track (LISTEN HERE) is a poignant tale of salvation with staccato beats, blurry blues melodies interlaced with outré samples forming a sonic collage that’s fast becoming a signature of the young artist. Written and produced by Oliver himself, “Helen” follows the release of his debut single “Switched Up” which was critically praised by the likes of New York Times, FADER and SPIN who all went on to call it a masterful debut. Speaking on his sound and inspiration, Oliver has this to share:

“Last year I moved back to England. The song feels gritty and raw because that’s how I felt being back home in that environment. This guy owned a small complex behind an automobile warehouse and agreed to let me make as much noise as I want if I paid him 500 quid. I’d ride my bike back & forth every day with all my equipment in my backpack. This is the first song I made there.” — Oliver Malcolm

Praise for Oliver Malcolm & “Switched Up”:

“A sleek hybrid of rap and R&B” — FADER

“The drums lurch toward the offbeats, some looped guitar picking tugs against that pulse and Malcolm’s voice is a rattled, quavery moan…Everything stays off-kilter for the two and a half paranoid minutes of “Switched Off” by Oliver Malcolm” — New York Times, Playlist

“Oliver Malcolm’s ‘Switched Up’ Is Intoxicating… new single ‘Switched Up’ is a mesh of influences, a confluence of sounds, a mosaic of techniques.” — CLASH

About Oliver Malcolm
Oliver Malcolm got his start early, teaching himself how to spin records at 12 years old. Shortly after, he downloaded Logic and taught himself how to produce – working with IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego Tinashe and more. Now twenty, Oliver has developed his own voice. Touching everything from the production, vocals, songwriting, engineering, mixing and mastering, Oliver’s sound is unique and does not fit the mold of one genre. A multidisciplinary at heart, this is just the beginning of music lovers can look forward to from the new artist.
