International Chefs and Artists to Showcase Their Talents Every Night at La Senda Resort

The Ocaso Underground Music Festival (www.OcasoFestival.com), is returning to Costa Rica for the fourth year in a row and announced today all new food and art experiences for ticket holders to enjoy every night January 9th – the 13th at the La Senda Retreat (www.LaSendaCostaRica.com), in Tamarindo, CR.

Healthy food and lifestyles have always been pillars of the Ocaso Festival mantra, and as such a very special nightly international food experience has been added to the festivities.  Under the direction of Costa Rican Chef Pablo Bonilla – of Sikwa and Francisca and recently written about in Forbes and National Geographic, will be leading a team of chefs from Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, El Salvador and the US. Each day, one international chef will be teamed up with some of Costa Rica’s best local chefs to provide a unique culinary experience each day of the festival.  A rundown of the chefs is as follows:

Guest chefs

Ariel Millaman (Chile)

Cesar Zapata (Colombia/USA)

Gabriela Guaimare (Venezuela/Spain)

Mauricio Barbón (El Salvador/Peru)

Néstor Sical (Guatemala)

Pablo Díaz (Guatemala)

Stephanie Bonnin (Colombia/USA)

Local Chefs

Andres Sandoval (El Gallo Rojo, CR)

Diego Hernández (Sikwa/Francisca, CR)

Gilberto Briceño (Las Catalinas, CR)

Hugo Gutiérrez (Cala Luna/La Senda, Mexico/CR)

María Elena Espinosa (Guaitil, CR)

In addition to the dishes of our visiting chefs, Bonilla will also be teaming up with Maikol Acuña, executive chef of Alma de Amón in San Jose, to provide a solid menu of regional street food that festival-goers can sample each day of Ocaso.

“In keeping with the culture and mission of Ocaso, we want all of our food to be locally sourced, organic, and purchased from sustainable farms,” stated Bonilla. “Our amazing international chefs will be displaying ancestral techniques in the preparation of their dishes. In striving to show respect for their local cuisine, it is important for us to provide them with the best products available – and to us that means organic and sustainable.”

Ocaso will also be taking over the kitchen at the Best Western Vista Villas where a daily menu of healthy breakfast, lunch and smoothies will be available.

Furthering the vision of a holistic festival will be a group of international artists from the US and Costa Rica who will share their art during live painting exhibitions at the festival grounds from 11pm-2am every night.  Featured, internationally acclaimed Artists will include Brendan Cooney, Dan Buell, Diego Fournier, Hector Gordillo, Joseph Navarro, Marjorie Meplón, Sam Flores and Telopa Treloky.

Ocaso has quickly grown into a cornerstone in the world of underground electronic music festivals and this year will present major performers including 2019 DJ Award Winner for Melodic House and Techno Maceo Plex, 2019 DJ Award Breakthrough Artist winner Artbat,  Äme, Doc Martin, Justin Martin, Magdalena, and Shiba San.  Hosted on the iconic La Senda retreat grounds, festival goers will be treated to a mystical journey through Costa Rican beaches and jungles, all while experiencing an unforgettable week of transcendent music where DJ’s and fans from around the world can meld together to partake in the incredible energies of the land.

Shuttle service to La Senda will be provided from the official host hotel of the festival, Best Western Tamarindo each day starting at 5pm and will return trips will be available until 30 minutes after each night ends.  Shuttles cost one token each way. Tokens for shuttles, concessions and more can be purchased at will-call which will be located poolside at Best Western every day from 11am – 2am, as well as on-site at La Senda. With intermittent wifi at La Senda, festival runners strongly recommend purchasing tokens at the Best Western before traveling to the main event venue.
