Described by The New York Times as his “impressive new mixtape” in which Moneybagg “blends the tough and the comic with an intuitive gift for casually robust rhymes,” and by Billboard as a mixtape that “tracks the expansive progression of Moneybagg,” Federal 3X arrives as the follow-up to Heartless, a February 2017 mixtape that’s now amassed over 126k units of consumption. Following the release of Heartless, XXL named Moneybagg Yo “one of the hottest rappers to look out for in 2017.”

With each lyric delivered in his murky Southern accent, Moneybagg Yo has built Federal 3X on head-nodding ad-libs and visceral depictions of street life. As he explains, the main mission of those lyrics is to encourage his fans to aspire for greatness. “My music motivates you,” Moneybagg Yo says. “It makes you get up and get to it. If you going through something, I’ll get you through your situation.”

Born Demario White on Memphis’s Southside, Moneybagg Yo is the latest addition to his hometown’s roster of veteran hip-hop talent (including artists like 8Ball & MJG, Three 6 Mafia, Yo Gotti, Playa Fly, and Al Kapone). With his stage moniker granted by a classmate, he began honing his lyrical delivery in high school and later invested all his minimal resources into developing his music.

In 2015 Moneybagg Yo made his debut with Federal, a mixtape released by the independent Memphis label N-Less Entertainment. Federal featured his breakout single “I Need a Plug,” which instantly becoming a regional hit. The following year, Moneybagg Yo had his sophomore release with a mixtape titled E.L.O. (Everybody Lives On).

Later in 2016, Moneybagg Yo released his third mixtape, All Gas No Brakes. Taking notice of his fast-rising momentum, Yo Gotti began managing Moneybagg Yo through his Collective Music Group management company. On Halloween of the same year, Yo Gotti and Moneybagg Yo released their collaborative mixtape, 2Federal.

“Everything I do is just federal,” he says. “I’m the voice of the streets. I’m gonna tell it like it is. That’s what the game been missing the whole time. You gotta touch people going through those situations.”
