As the owner, or as she puts it, the “Boss Lady” of The Palm Coffee Bar in Burbank, CA, Joanna Heart is more than an entrepreneur. She is a mother, wife, business owner, and natural-born creative.
Most recently, Joanna is featured on the new season of the Netflix show, Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo. Collaborating with small business owners, Marie helped Joanna refresh and organize her home, providing her with a launchpad to organize her coffee shop, her home, and everything in between. Readers can watch the official trailer for the show, HERE.
Joanna founded The Palm Coffee Bar on NYE over drinks with her best friend. As an avid coffee snob, people lover, and having previously worked in HR, fashion, and as a Graphic Designer & Creative Director, Joanna wanted to take her passions for all of the above and blend them with her love for her community in Burbank, California. Since then, The Palm Coffee Bar has become the town’s go-to source for coffee, play, laughs, art and support. Even during these difficult small-business times, the team continues to hand out cards for free drinks, toys for kids, and treats to dogs in addition to their killer drink and food menu.
With limited space at home, Marie worked with Joanna to maximize work and play through various organizational systems. Since the makeover of her coffee shop and home office, Joanna has learned to implement her methods throughout her entire home. For instance, she completely refreshed her son’s room and organized his closets while also redoing the space to be clear and feel comfortable for his schoolwork, play, and everything in between. Additionally, she organized her entire living room and created a back wall of storage that was not there previously in an effort to manage space and clutter. Prior to her experience on the show, Joanna and her family only had one closet in her entire home and it was NOT for clothing.
Her favorite space is definitely her home office as it now feels like an extension of who she is. Not only is it filled with a big desk for action and creativity, but it is filled with music and Mart, in fashion, plants, life, and exercise. She has found a way to incorporate things that spark joy and are presented before her in the most beautiful manner.
With The Palm Coffee Bar, most of the items that didn’t quite have a home, and kept getting put back in other places, finally found a place which helped the team keep things organized. It also made everyone more productive for customers.
