Today, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist JAWNY shares his magnetic new single “Trigger of Love.” The latest showcase for his restless creativity and eclectic aesthetic, “Trigger of Love” is the third song released from JAWNY’s upcoming project For Abby, due out via Interscope Records on October 27. With the release, JAWNY is featured on New Music Daily on Apple Music. “Trigger of Love” is available now at all digital retailers.
Built on a drowsy but hard-hitting beat, “Trigger of Love” spotlights JAWNY’s supreme talent for merging raw sincerity and outrageous humor. To that end, the Bay Area-bred artist embeds the song with both emotional outpouring and surrealistic wordplay, breezily dropping references to Monopoly, Hugh Hefner, and Janis Joplin. The single artwork for “Trigger of Love” was shot by Fryd Frydendahl in collaboration with Nero Magazine.
“‘Trigger of Love’ is the first song I made in quarantine and it was the last song to make the record,” says JAWNY. “It’s also my favorite song on the record… I had just fallen in love again and I made the record butt-ass-naked on my living room floor. Nothing fancy on this one, just me, my voice and the guitar.”
On “Trigger of Love,” JAWNY again displays the untamed originality he first revealed in early releases like his 2019 viral hit “Honeypie.” Hailed as a “slacker-funk gem” by DIY Mag, “Honeypie” has racked up over 119 million streams globally across all streaming platfrms and has surpassed 12.5 million views on YouTube.
“Trigger of Love” arrives as the follow-up to “Super Bad Mantra” ft. Christian Blue, a September release hailed by Ones To Watch as an “electrifying new single that’s destined to get you on your feet.” In addition to “Trigger of Love” and “Super Bad Mantra,” For Abbywill feature the previously released single “Sabotage,” an angsty and addictive track that JAWNY premiered in August.
Born Jacob Sullenger, JAWNY grew up outside Oakland and started playing guitar when he was just six-years-old. At age 13 he began making beats with his brother, eventually landing placements with several rappers in the SoundCloud scene of the late-aughts. By 2017 he’d gained a cult-like following thanks in part to a series of viral videos posted on Twitter, and drew further buzz in 2018 with a self-titled debut EP made under the name Johnny Utah. In 2019, he broadened his fanbase with widely praised singles like “Honeypie” and “4Tounce,” then landed a deal with Interscope Records by the year’s end.
